so they found a way to effectively L-cancel in smash 4, except now it’s a 1 frame timing and might only work for certain moves
this is sooooo much easier than just designing it into the game! sigh
one thing i miss about japan was i could make an endless lobby looking for that character and maybe wait 10 minutes for said character. here i put the character and everyone joining plays everyone but.
monster hunter 4 review…
killing dinosaurs is fun. buy this game.
Man I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do that. This game flies directly against all my fighting game intuitions.
If they designed this into the game as a feature then they could make it much easier to do.
We’re about to go live for KING OF ARC SYS, starting with Persona 4: Arena!
Why would L-cancel need to be programmed in at all? Couldn’t you just reduce lag on everything that would be L-cancellable? When would you not want to do it?
Locking things you want to be doing 100% of the time behind an obtuse barrier just for the hell of it seems silly to me.
@blackadde
Hey Mike, I finally got some recorded footage of using the command throw in real matches.

The general trick if that you can drop a combo at any point and just do the command throw instead, or if you realize you’re too far to keep a combo going you just do the throw instead.
Damn, Blazblue’s a tough sell.
very cool read, a 1991 interview with the designer of SF2

hard to believe that playing a match against another person was kind of taboo in japan at first, I guess it really was the first instance of an arcade game doing this type of head-to-head thing, so approaching a total stranger and challenging them was really hard I guess?
thanks man. i just need to get better at reading tech habits. it really seems like it’s an awful AA but there are natural setups where if you mash tech you can just cancel ground normals into it to hit meaty (eg. 5S xx SM).
Between @Teyah and I, we’ll be posting videos every week so even if you can’t make it out you can at least watch how the local scene plays. There are already 7 FT5’s up on my channel and more will be coming this weekend.
I can already tell you that some people mindlessly tech until you condition them (like above) to stop doing so. Then you can do all the techable combos you want all day.
there are debates about whether L-canceling is necessary in a game like melee, or if the game should just auto L-cancel everything you do
the people who want to keep it like it because it creates a chance you miss it (sort of like why some people want special move inputs tighter in 2D fighters), the people who want it removed argue that you always want to do it, so why do i have to press a button?
either way, if nintendo wanted to make their game casual friendly, just having very little landing lag on all aerials is a good way to do it. now, they have some dumb scenario on their hands where the pros will have a MASSIVE advantage over the casuals because they put the time in to learn a very difficult technique, which is pretty much exactly what nintendo was trying to avoid. but because they designed their game to be so slow, floaty, and laggy, they kind of opened themselves up to glitches like this being found, and now their game is worse off for it.

are you hearing these beats?!
Thanks for those drawings Karl, if only you drew Nu instead of Bullet you would’ve been 3/3 for my mains lol
Why would a pop tart want to live inside a toaster? That’d be like the scariest place for them to live.
This is a pretty cool article actually written by Logan Couture from the San Jose Sharks about good centres in the league (hockey). It reminded me of my approach to Street Fighter
helps me understand better how certain players are effective since I’ve never played hockey
They already have that, and it’s annoying. It makes it feel like EVERY SINGLE ATTACK in the game is a frame trap. I’d argue that they should keep L-cancelling, but make it a feature of the game, something that doesn’t require quite so strict timing and is easier to learn.
But, you know, people in hell want ice water.
because rick and morty, josh. that’s why.
fucking hell i love that show.
