Calgary Thread 2014

I feel like I’m the only person on the planet not hype for DS2

I’m with ya

Hey, Evenly-Tempered Mike got banned. Someone spill.

i asked him at dicken’s, he said he posted a picture of an ass because someone was being an ass.
or something along those lines.

best answer: TLDR, mike was bad on the internet.

in other news, lets all say bad things about mike so he’s forced to make a troll account and get banned again!

I heard that Angry Mike thinks that Street Fighter 4 is the pinnacle of competitive gaming.

looks like EG has parted ways with Floe, citing “we’d like for all our fighting game members to be competitive at an international level” or something

Yo Dave got me a shiny darkrai

when was the last time this guy even made top 8 at a major? he’s barely a contender for top 16 at most tournies

some dumbass in the Marvel forums asked for advice for his team of Thor/Dorm/Skrull, and we said change it because the team sucked total ass… he isn’t even using one of Skrull’s good assists. Just a combo extender OTG. He ignored everyone, started talking about how good he was, someone posted a match vid showing he was awful, so on so forth. 2 or 3 pages went by in the thread, somebody asked what was wrong with this guy, Mike posted a picture of a nice ass and two burgers. Ass burgers. Asbergers

That doesn’t really come as a surprise to me.

I didn’t really see FloE as a contributing member to team EG since he barely attended tournaments and his over all tournament placings were mediocre at best. He’s an above average player but it didn’t seem like he took competitive fighting games all that seriously. Most of his streams involved him being a personality by playing a variety of games as well. If he’s not really promoting EG or placing well at tournaments then there’s no reason to keep him around.

woah making fun of aspies is a banable offense?

dang

Floe getting the boot is long overdue, that guy is useless on EG lol

I’ve been in Florida for awhile, still here till Thurs :frowning: gonna be behind on dark souls 2… so sad.

as sponsorships and this whole thing continues to go forward, it’s interesting to consider that you’ll need some people to be sponsored that aren’t threats at tournaments (gootecks, etc) just because they are social media-savvy, and then you’ll need to sponsor actual players. Floe was probably sponsored as long as he was because of his streaming popularity, so he was bringing recognition to the EG brand even without doing well at tournaments. I guess they eventually decided that wasn’t enough anymore

more importantly, who will replace him?

i’ve always considered floe to be team EG’s “i wanna be the guy” guy, not a pro fighting game player. figured he was only a part of it due to his friendship with justin & co. anyway, so it ain’t a surprise.

i bet angry mike is heartbroken

uh also, if people were curious about my top 10 videogame songs:

number 1 on the list is unquestionably Apotheosis from the Journey soundtrack. It’s a great song standalone but is magnified substantially in impact if you’ve played the game. One of the few videogame tracks to get a legitimate emotional response from me, and has stuck with me for over a year since I played the game.

I don’t really care to rank the rest of them, but I would choose a song from these franchises to fill out 2-10:

  • Phoenix Wright
  • Final Fantasy something
  • Scars of Time from Chrono Cross
  • DKC (probably DKC2)
  • Mega Man
  • Xenoblade Chronicles (probably Satorl Marsh night? maybe one of the boss themes)
  • One of the NES/SNES Mario games
  • Battle for Everyone’s Souls from Persona 3

Would have to look at a list of games I’ve played and think more on it if I was gonna make a serious list

Also, a criminally underrated soundtrack is Jet Force Gemini on N64. If you were to listen to it now, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was from an N64 game, it sounds like a full orchestra, and really matches the atmosphere of the game perfectly. They did some amazing things with the technology to get that to work. I don’t think a song from that game would make my top 10 list, but the soundtrack as a whole might make my top 10 game soundtracks?

All of Rareware’s soundtracks are great. Although they lost David Wise, Grant Kirkhope and Graeme Norgate, they still have Robin Beanland at least…

Rare isn’t the company they used to be. In addition to their musicians leaving, they lost basically all their good programming and design talent. You’re better off tracking down where those people went to and hoping they make a good game, rather than the Rare brand trying to reclaim its former glory.

I’ve been following everyone who left Rare. David Wise is currently doing freelance composing and worked on Tropical Freeze (he’s my favorite composer and I’d really love to get him on my game), Grant Kirkhope and Graeme Norgate are composing for some other indie games, the Stamper Bros. are off enjoying their money somewhere, and Chris Seavor (the Conker guy) is making a Wii U game about a robot dog.

Keep in mind, Rare was composed of several hundred employees; although they did lose several historically important staff members they still have more than enough programming talent left.
