there is little in life more gratifying than the failures of hated sports teams
Vanilla SF4 was such an awful game.
Ricky what happened to you
it’s because I haven’t been able to talk to you in like a year, look at what a life without jozhear does to a man

I finally got an xbox out here. Add me so I can wreck you with my Oni… Gandeh11

Yeah, it’s definitely hard to improve in KoF in Canada with the small player base and mediocre netcode of Steam Edition. There’s definitely a drive to get better at the game but there’s only so far you can get without traveling. Oh well, play for the love of the game and seek gradual improvement over time. You can’t get godlk at the game over night, it’s just going to take time. lol
You guys did well in GG and I was hoping Teyah could have won the tournament but his match vs Jo was easily the highlight of the GG tourney.
Yeah I felt I had a legit shot at winning. But I tend to play overly defensive against unknown opponents which is really, really bad in tourney play. Though that Johnny (tenkai) took out AKA, the other top Millia player there too, so I can’t feel too bad.
For KoF I had to face Khannabalito in first round, and he ended up winning the tourney lol. Highlight of that for me was taking his point EX Iori with my (fraudulent) point Kim in game 1. After that he just rolled over me with Karate. More people need to use that guy so I/we can learn what to do against him. I’m definitely more hungry in KoF than I have been in quite awhile though so I’ll be putting a lot of lab time and practice into that game when work slows down a bit.

Hahaha…at least you get to say you only lost to the best as both Jo and Khannabalito ended up winning their respective tournaments.
I don’t think defensive play is too bad when you’re trying to figure out someone’s tendencies especially if they play random like that nut Sol player you played. lol
Is there a reason you went with Millia over Eddie? I don’t know the match up stats in +R but I would have thought Eddie would have faired better against Jhonny. Good showing overall and that match vs Jo was really intense and it looked like it could have gone either way in the last round.
I’ve only dabbled with Karate just to learn some general match up strats and escapes to common scenarios so I have character specific counters to his stuff but he’s definitely over whelming with a strong neutral and offensive game. I’m actually more hungry in GG after playing a couple of you guys in combination with GGXrd and SCR. lol I’m definitely down to game in both the next time I’m in town, which might be early April due to a work training course.
You should probably just move down here and get a job so we can play 3-4 times a week.
Hint hint.
I have a scrub karate whom I played for a bit longer than 2 months now in order to learn match-up. I put nearly zero practice to him and he wins more than my Yuri. That says a lot about the character’s strength (or how much I suck with Yuri haha).
Karate with a level 2 Super OR a 50% drive + 1 meter in reserve essentially freezes everyone in Calgary lolol
Maybe we should play GG next time
BTW, anyone planning to go to Tubby Dog today?
Listening to Ultradavid talk about Hugo, I just get even more excited… he sounds like he plays a lot like the grapplers I normally play in FG’s. Huge limbs/very momentum dependent, achieved by blowing through stuff with armor/corner you and they win. He sounds just like Astaroth and Bane… characters who people always think are terribad in test builds, and the early life of the game, but turn out to be amazing once everything is worked out. I want :(. I’m not too worried he’ll be unplayable. New T.Hawk is also very tempting…

Karate definitely takes less work then Yuri to win because of his neutral tools but I feel Yuri has way more ways to open people up then Karate. I think the problem is that Yuri is commonly seen as an anchor character now but you use her on point, which isn’t bad but in comparison to a point Karate he’s going to put in so much more work than Yuri. Karate can hit like a truck for minimal resources while Yuri needs to land multiple mix ups or spend resources to deal damage. These are resources you’re not going to have available to you when you’re using her on point. You also use 3 characters who are all amazing as anchor characters when they’re loaded with meter but of the 3 Kim needs the least amount of meter to be effective so I would actually try a different team arrangement of Kim/Yuri/Chin or Kim/Chin/Yuri. I think collectively though outside of having a stronger neutral game we need to work on our offensive mind games. The way Reynald and Khannabilito were getting into people’s heads through out the tournament was astounding. There’s a reason why Reynald’s Benimaru is so much better than everybody else.
I’m definitely down for playing some GG next time. I have 0 match up experience with +R so I don’t mind the learning experience. I play too honest of a character though. lol

Hahaha…The thought is tempting after hanging out with you guys last time.
Who sent you to losers in GG pools, btw? You were actually pretty confident in making top 4 in GG and potentially winning Gundam with Yao so I’m kind of interested in how you guys felt the US competition was and overall what you guys took away from SCR.
I’m curious to see how the FGC will handle GG Xrd when the console version is released. People are expressing they’re interest in the game but I’m wondering if people will actually stick with it. GG Xrd is actually reminding me a lot of when SF4 first dropped because there was a lot of old players coming out of retirement because it was such a huge nostalgia trip for them. Then there was the interesting clash between new school and old school players. I feel GG Xrd could do the same thing. There’s a couple of people in Japan saying they’ve spotted Bonchan and Daigo playing the game as well. I would be so hype if Daigo brings his Sol out of retirement. lol

shtkn sent me to losers. I was using a stick I hadn’t practiced on and I went in cold. I barely lost (mostly missing inputs due to adjusting back to a JLF from a hayabusa), but I blew him up on stream with I-No later, once I was warmed up. Then I lost to Teyah in loser’s semis.
As for Gundam, Yao and I made an extremely bad call in losers finals and played a horrible team comp. We actually won the first game, but then after they tied it up 1-1 we got too antsy and Yao gambled and went with a suit that was extremely dominant in vanilla (X1FC), but only mediocre in EXVSFB. I think if we had kept playing Quanta x Cherudim, we could have won it.
I’m pretty hungry for GG again, as well as I still am for EXVSFB. I’m going to try and make it a point to record at least 2/3 days of our weekend casuals and post them online for study. We’re actually talking in IRC right now about running kumites to level up for the rest of +R’s life and Xrd.
I was wondering why you guys switched up your team after wards especially with mediocre suits. Should have picked a sanford tier. lol
Well I went to Impulse who is consistently in the A tiers, but since Yao couldn’t keep them off of me with mediocre X1FC I couldn’t get into a proper support position.
We’ve pledged to learn some new (sanford tier) team comps for the next tourney, so we’ll see how that goes.
i liked Berra but still a good deal to land next year’s 2nd round draft pick for him.
Lee Stempniak for next year’s 3rd rounder is a great deal. he’s a decent player but we don’t need him whatsoever.
looks like we’re going to have another great drafting year
Burke did well… but i still hate him.
i liked berra for his once a month highlight reel saves
too bad he let in at LEAST one softie per game, not really gonna miss him. getting a 2nd is a real steal
stemps just doesnt fit the mould the flames are trying to get to going forward. also he’s extremely streaky and couldnt buy a goal in the last 3 months
pretty good. apparently a lot of other big name trades got in the way of dealing cammy, so i guess he’s ours for the foreseeable future.
and butler (FUCK)
I’ll be at tubbies tonight Daniel but not for verylong. Who’s all going
