Calgary Thread 2014

So the thing that makes the game unique is going to be completely useless and eventually phased out. Great, you’re really selling this.

That’s besides the point I was trying to make though.

No, they’re not irrelevant. This isn’t just about EA being dickheads what with their day one DLC and forcing you to install their shitty platform. That makes them huge pricks but that doesn’t make them evil. They’re evil because they’re knowingly causing real harm to the game industry. They regularly betray consumer trust, they assimilate and ruin competent game developers (Bioware, Maxis, etc.), they lay off talented workers despite making profits, they buy out competition and kill them, they treat their workers like slave labor (look up the EA spouse letter that shows that they refused to pay their workers overtime)… they’ve been doing evil things for years but it hasn’t been worse than it is now. They’re the reason we’re headed for another video game crash.

Josh let’s be honest, the only reason you don’t like Titanfall is because there aren’t any giant school girls. Amirite? Heyoooo wub zibbity zing dang!

It’s okay though, the crash will be a good thing because it’ll just kill off EA and Activision and let indies rule the stage.

Yeah that’s a reason, but it’s not the only reason.

honestly none of that bothers me in the least because titanfall is a fun game, and that’s what video games are supposed to be

I feel bad for you because you’ll never know the freedom of flying around in tf

also, in regards to your statement about how titans being useless, I have the following to say:

  1. I already described how they will most likely be used, as powerups in specific situations(unless you start dominating, a team who has 4 titans out to your 0 or 1 is not a fun situation to find yourself in)
  2. some of the best games are there in spite of the developers intentions, take for example my favorite game ever, tribes. skiing is a bug, the devs wanted people to fly around in bulky ships and use their jetpacks to fly on top of buildings and stuff, they could have never conceived this bug to define and really make the game what it turned out to be. and this was for the better

titans being powerups instead of focal points is a very good thing to me, in my experience of playing the game. once you get the hang of parkour, being in a robot that can’t leave the ground is really fucking boring

yeah, until indies also get themselves involved in an arms race that they can’t sustain

and let’s not mention the wonderful world of Kickstarter, where people pay for games before they’re made (often solely out of nostalgia), so they don’t have to be any good when they finally are released. Innovative game ideas struggle on KS, because if you ask people what they want, they’ll just say “a game like the ones we used to play” and typically not support grand new ideas with risk, which is really the only way the industry can truly progress.

Some indie games are taking risks and being successful, but I think it’s relatively short-lived. Eventually, indie gaming will morph into an arms/publicity race that benefits no one, because it’s already heading that way and there aren’t measures in place to slow it down.

I understand the AAA game market is not a sustainable way to make games, but every game-making model has some serious long-term challenges. Indie gaming isn’t invincible.

also lol @ giant robots that are just infantry without jumping are more unique then the craziest fps movement engine ever concieved

all this talk makes me want to play mechwarrior 2 again. too bad i lost my joystick ages ago.

Don’t they patch out crazy moment bugs/exploits nowadays?

Don’t get me wrong, I love to bunny hop and stuff, but it seems like companies don’t let that shit fly any more.

from what i got out of the beta titans can get fucked up pretty quickly by infantry so its not a game like mech warrior lol
It was pretty fun, i’ll end up buying it on the xboner this weekend probably. I still need to get into DaS2 though, i only played for like half hour :frowning:

neo got bodied by phoenix wright again

Yah, if you are not smart with your titan it can be gone like 10 seconds after you drop the thing lol.

I love that you can set it to auto and use it as you are still on the ground, thats what I’ve been using mine for on some maps, it flushes people out and works as a great distraction.

I honestly love the freedom and control you have as a pilot, I feel like a fuckin super human flyin off shit.

I also love how snipers don’t seem over powered in this game, like you gotta be legit fuckin good to snipe people because of how fast the game is.

Foger is right, the game is straight up fun, and thats the point of games,

haters gonna hate.

Burn Cards are done really well too I think,

Oh FR is this weekend, brace for shitty 5th character on sunday i’d assume!

dark souls been consuming my life for the past 3 days…

did you finish it already? i only got one session in and i’m on my third boss, no idea what order i’m supposed to do this stuff in.

do you have a link to the other match where neo lost to phoenix wright? the one that happened a few days ago or something?

Nope, don’t think I’m even close to finishing it right now. I’m stuck on a part and not sure what to do now.

the one where Neo lost the runback to that same player to get knocked out of the tournament was done off-stream because up until top 8 that tournament was a shitshow for marvel

Infiltration gets 3rd in SFxT at Final Round, loses to Kelvin (dorya player) and Coolkid (Bob player), Coolkid won the tournament

Wonder if he ever decided to optimize his combos? lol
