Calgary Thread 2014

Agreed, its comparitively very progressive and unexpected from that region. I’m happy for those guys

if you have a decent pc you guys should get titanfall

ctf is legit the most fun in gaming since i played tribes so many years ago

when they release it on steam, I’ll consider it

there aren’t very many games that can convince me to download origin

I’m glad it’s fun though, I suck at PC FPS but the trailers interested me

ive been using shadowplay to get some good shots, ill try to post a highlight vid sometime in the next few days

origin really isnt that bad honestly

What’s the big deal about Origin? I was in the Titanfall beta for a month and it never seemed to have any problems. I dunno anything about computers though, other than how to turn games on or off. My only complaint about Titanfall is minions are dumb. I don’t want that MOBA shit!

mad catz ke sticks on sale this weekend for one hunna

it’s made by EA, who… well, let’s just say they don’t have the end user’s experience in the forefront of their minds

it’s not better than Steam, and the only games that are Origin-exclusive are EA games that they’re holding back so that people have to download Origin. To put it another way, they’re not focused on creating a rival to Steam that can compete on all its features and maybe even innovate a bit on its own, all they’re interested in doing is creating a service that has a ton of users (they never report on “active” users, they just pretend all the various dumb EA accounts that people make for Tiger Woods 11 and use once will count as Origin users) and then holding certain games hostage on the service so they can report back to shareholders

I don’t know anyone who actually decides to use Origin over Steam because they think it is doing good things, they only use it for that one Origin game and then run screaming back to Steam whenever they can

double post

the minions are supposed to be dumb, they aren’t there to do anything except shorten your titan timer

this is a very good thing

origin sucks, for real.

titanfall looks good but i haven’t really got into an online shooter since the tfc / quake 2 ctf days. even with all the movement you get in this game it still seems pretty slow. i guess i can see where you get the tribes vibe from, which is cool tho.

ricky do you think they will actually release it on steam?
i don’t think they will ala BF series etc.

some of their games that made it to steam require origin to be installed / used on game boot (far cry + dragon blood – even shadow warrior iirc?)

i’m putting off buying it soley on the principle that they shouldn’t even bother making you use their shitty platform. even capcom dropped GFWL, and that says something lol

its definitely not slow

the beta had some pretty shitty maps. some of the new ones are pretty intense

if youre a tribes aficionado it feels like LT

edit

i’m gonna sound like a broken record here and i get hype over things really easy but titanfall is worth putting up with origin, game is too fuckin legit

my hope is that how awesome ctf is gets out there and the game doesnt die in 2 months because most people just stick to deathmatch and domination and find the game boring

eh, i guess there was a petition to bring it to steam already.

knowing EA they will gain notion of it and use it as toilet paper while wiping laughter tears away with money.

nah I’m sure they’ll never release it on steam, which sucks… but hey, it’s their loss

if I was ever to get into a FPS though, I suppose it’d be this one. maybe if I’m really bored one day I’ll look into it, although by that point everyone will be massively leveled up and the barrier to entry will be really hard. There’s also a huge barrier of entry to me because I’m terrible with PC FPS controls

I guess the 5th USF4 character will be announced this weekend finally, eh? I can tell you they’ve done a great job at smothering any hype they had around this character, so much so that the reveal will probably be pretty anti-climactic

one thing you have to consider in their means of not putting it on steam is that they’d have to pay valve for distribution.

they are taking out the middle man – which is smart in any business, for this i give them kudos.

however, the middle man they are removing happens to be PC gaming Jesus, therefore it makes them look like a metaphorical heretic to the eyes of many PC platform purists.

Hence, this is why guys like me are not falling into their money grabbing tactics, nor being forced to use their awful proprietary software.

it’s not that it makes them look like heretics, it’s that the option they give us is so incredibly subpar to the industry standard that gamers won’t stand for it

it’s one thing if you think you can do it better than steam, go ahead and try, heck maybe you actually will do some things better. but when you deliberately subject your customers to terrible service so that the company can save a few bucks, that’s something they deserve to get raked over the coals for, don’t you think? This is what I meant when I said that Origin is blatantly anti-consumer; when nobody willingly uses your service and you have to blackmail people into using it, maybe you should reconsider how that makes you look

glad you’re enjoying it tyler, you don’t seem to be the only one. I’m glad there’s still people trying to make fun FPS games rather than just generic cash grabs

I had also wondered about the various FPS modes… whenever a new one comes out, they keep touting the 1234092752 multiplayer modes they have, but inevitably doesn’t everyone just play deathmatch or team deathmatch anyway? I imagine in 2 months like 95% of the available modes have 0 players in them

also I’ll make mention of this game again here because I’m having a lot of fun with it (put 40 hours into it over the last month, lol): it’s called Tagpro and is a browser-based capture the flag game where you roll a ball around and try not to run into spikes. I played it on a whim with other people and just kept going back to it because it’s really simple but really fun. If you’re bored one day you really should try it, since it’s in the browser you can try one or two games with no investment to see if you like it. Like all team-based games it’s really fun when you have a good team that are all working together.

i finally finished bravely default. jeez that game takes forever if you want the [details=Spoiler]true ending.

and it just drags onnnnnnnnnnnn[/details]

Right, I keep forgetting it’s on PC lol

I love dropping my Titan on other Titans to kill them,

Some of the maps are really great, super fun game.

It’s really starting to feel like that for me too, but I’ve come too far, and must beat it.
