I don’t understand why the Japanese feel that Cammy is a contender for top tier. They ranked her in the top 10 characters early in Arcade Edition but we didn’t really see any prominant Cammy play. Given her current tool set there are other characters that do the same thing as Cammy but better.
Wait, why are Duo Lon’s AA brainless? Close s.C or s.A for small hops, f.A to preemptively stop jumps from a distance, jump f.A in air-to-air situations, c.C against jumps or super jumps (can trade a lot), tripguards against bad jumps, and Rekkas but that seems really situational. None of those seem brain dead and the majority of the cast can do cl. s.C, s.A, and tripguard anti-airs, on top of there own unique anti-air tools. Personally, I think Duo Lon has really bad defensive options and has to deal with a lot of pressure unless he’s willing to risk a random EX Rekka, or teleports which are all punishable.
he doesn’t seem to need anything except c.C and it covers the angle you want your AA to cover. it is applicable in far more situations than any one of Iori’s moves. so, comparatively brainless
every char supposedly can use jabs to anti-air but of all the buttons I’ve tried with all the chars I’ve tried it has by far the lowest success rate. seems to be crazy situational. in any AA situation A is my last option
Cammy has always been hella good. probably top 3 in vanilla console behind Seth and Akuma, one of the absolute best in Super, still top 10 in AE, more awesome now with nerfs to other chars. dunno why she is played so little when she is so good. ppl get it twisted because american cammy players are very vocal about how badly their character sucks. they refuse to admit they are the problem, not their character. now in AE2012 nobody can do what Cammy does better than she does
speaking of dive kick characters, you can now OS Yuns dive kick. since Yun now has a height restriction on his dive kicks, you can now cr. tech OS cr.fp. this either stuffs his dive kick or will tech his throw (obviously, still loses to command grab).
before when he had no height restriction, yun could spam dive kick and it would stuff kens/akumas cr.fp.
c.C doesn’t seem ideal against small hops because of the long start up and for it to AA cleanly or trade you’d have to be pressing the button preemptively, which is not ideal if your opponent decides to not small hop. That’s from my own personal experience with the character but I don’t main Duo Lon anymore.
s.A is an anti-air in more common situations like small hop pressure so I wouldn’t call it crazy situational. It’s not ideal against normal jumps, super jumps, or high priority jump normals like Kyo’s j.2C or j.CD.
Cammy is not in any way NOT TOP TIER - who does what cammy does better than cammy? Nobody, is the answer, the idea that someone has better frame traps than cammy is a fallacy, because even if they DID, they don’t have free get tons of frame advantage card EX TKCS. Cammy is incredibly good and always has been
As much as I would love to play a team of 3 duo lons, i don’t see why i should, and here’s why;
a. I can’t play a team of 3 of same playstyle. If I get yomi’d, it will be hard to come out of that mold with 3 characters with similar playstyle. Nah mean?
b. I need to get better, more diverse playstyles to grow as a player. I’m not gonna drop iori just cause he doesn’t fit me, that’d be me giving up too early. Hell if anything I play as him the least since he’s my anchor and duo lon and k’ usually wreck shop on their own.
c. Iori, K’, and Duo Lon are the kind of characters that instantly jumped out to me as badass. I want to get good with them, i have no interest in Billy / Mai.
I guarantee you if I played Billy Kane, I would never have realized how gdlk his command normal hops are. i don’t think he’s as much of a keepaway character as he appears. as for Mai… I dunno… She’s got nice boobies and all but aside from that i don’t really like her.
If anything, and this is simple - i will drop claw iori for flames iori. =D But then nobody would have him. Great…
EDIT: Thank you for the help and suggestions though guys.
EDIT 2: Vega is definitely a little better. nothing major although ex shc is a cool buff, move actually has a use now. it actually hits blanka, chun, etc. No complaints.
Hey Happy New Years everyone. Dug, do you know how to replace fuses in a ds lite? my kids ds stopped working today, the orange light comes on for five ten seconds when you plug it in, and then goes off, won’t power on. cost to send to nintendo for repair is $75 which is almost half the price of a 3ds so don’t really wanna go that route. Might have to just get a 3ds anyways, but if you can fix it for dirt might as well. let me know. and wear safety glasses when you’re soldering!!!
Never done anything of the sort. I usually stay away from trying to fix things like that because i know if i fuck up then its hooped and plus your warranty goes down the drain.
At least in AE, Cody and Yang definitely had better frame traps then Cammy. Cody’s frame advantage off of his normals and EX rocks is pretty significant too. Yang’s frame traps were pretty one dimensional but all his other tools made it extremely scary to push buttons while on the defensive.
Cammy has a unique mix of a DP, great normals, and an incredibly high blockstun/hitstun dive kick (can anyone else go straight into ultra off a dive kick?). She also gets free mixups off all her knockdowns, which isn’t true for all characters (Yun’s backthrow doesn’t give him much, for example). I don’t really see how she won’t be a pretty big threat at most tournaments. Lots of Japanese players are playing her now, as well, so she’ll get some good representation in Japan.
