Calgary has a bunch of strong theory fighters, really. I basically don’t even play the game seriously anymore, I just theory fight. Mike M and Daniel also immediately come to mind as people who have really studied the game. There are probably others that are just as good as us that aren’t coming to mind right now. Cody did commentary at Canada Cup and explained things about the game that JC and UD didn’t seem to know for some reason, lol.
Basically, saying Calgary has weak theory fighters is pretty off base. Some of us are also pretty good at the actual game, too.
I dunno if it’s my old arcade mentallity, but I never really understood the whole theory figher thing.
I always prefered to grind things out in actual matches and figure stuff out that way rather than read numbers and data and assume it works.

Peter did a really good job in this fight, the only thing i see him doing wrong is random shoryukens when he doesnt have to, but obviously DP beats counter hit setups, but all in all good Job Peter!
P.S. the double dash in the corner is not a cross up if he uses that elbow but if he uses Jumping Forward, that is a crossup!
You can actually completely avoid the jump fierce setup just by crouching and NOT blocking (blocking makes your hitbox wider and that’s why you get hit).
Good luck telling your hands to not block, though!

i just watched a bit of it since im at work but man im a scrub ahha. one thing i noticed is that momochi is very good at AAing cross jumps. most people are only good at AAing frontal attacks.

I used to like theory fighter when I thought FG theory was worth something. and it is, if you want to do commentary. if you are just playing no point in spending much time with it.
ppl like to compare FGs to chess but that is a huge disservice to chess. if FGs were actually like chess theory would be good for a lot more… but they are more like checkers
you guys shouldn’t be so sensitive when someone is pointing out a flaw with our community. its well known that we as a whole here still play by feel and not with much research. its getting better for sure, but the number of people who posess really deep theory knowledge is pretty limited. This might be due to a lot of people not caring about competition, and who just want to fuck around, and the effect that has on people who do care. Obviously if you want to be the best you will learn as much as you can, but after 2 years if the same stuff you’ve been doing still works, complacancy can kick in and stop your drive to learn on the whole. That, and the sf4 series is now almost 4 years old, so interest is waning a bit
although that is a weak excuse, those of us who pride ourselves on being good should definetely read some more - knowledge is power. This happens naturally when a new game comes out and we’re learning everything(i personally learn like 20 new things every time i play kof with the crew), and drops off after the game becomes stale. those of us who want to compete should take his advice and educate ourselves. the best way to get out of unfavorable situations is always to avoid them, and with game knowledge you can see them coming and nip it in the bud

Knowledge is so important. I agree, but I think experience, application, and state of mind is just as important.
