Thanks Cody, I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll be heading the department if I take this position, but it’s similar to what I was doing before and frankly I wasn’t too keen on it. The good thing is that it’s a small company with tons of room to grow and they seem to have made a name for themselves. It could lead to big things later on.
Quick question, how do you guys handle salary negotiations?
They’ve made me an offer, but I’m going to tell them that I’ll have to mull it over until Monday. I made it clear that I can’t start until Wednesday anyway so it shouldn’t be a problem. On the one hand, I don’t want to be greedy because I really need this and the compensation does include bonuses for business retention and new clients. Problem is I’m not really sure how much that will amount to. If I don’t ask for a little more I’ll be stuck until next year. I was thinking of asking for an extra 3 -5k a year. It’s not outrageous.
I had a 2 hour interview with them yesterday and from all indication, they really want me. They didn’t even bother checking my references or credentials/education so I take that as a good sign. I mean, I could have said I was a rocket scientist and they would have believed it.
to be honest, you should ask them how often you can expect to get a raise. don’t say the word “review” cause that doesn’t necessarily mean “raise”. this way they have to keep their word when the 3 months is up.
ask them if things go well can you expect a wage increase after the 3 month probationary period.
thats how i would go about it.
i’ve never negotiated a wage before i took the job though
just get your foot in the door first. congrats man.
Yeah I just went from being on the floor to a supervisor 5mths ago and I didnt negotiate, since I figured I didnt have prior supervisor exp. Hopefully when my review comes up I can get a 2 dollar an hour raise.
i’ve always accepted whatever the company feels comfortable in offering.
as long as i can cover my bills and still have some flow to chuck around i’m good.
nothing ever wrong with making more though - - but if you really want it i think a person should earn it. where’s that newfoundlander in ya, bey?
I only went to school in Newfoundland. I’m French, we’re all a bunch of self-entitled assholes.
Anyway…
I think I’ll ask for an extra 3k or so. If they can’t do it, I’m pretty sure they’ll meet me halfway at least. I’m not trying to be greedy, but I’ve always been told you have ask for a little bit more, just as a gesture to show that you’re not a pushover.
exactly worse is they says no and the best is sure and you make more. I ended up basically the same from going from the floor to supervisor, but in the long run I can make more, well on the floor I had hit top rate. So I wasnt losing anything, but I was going the chance to make more in the future.
I don’t listen to that much metal on a regular basis but I was going through my music collection on an old computer and I came across a gem that I had forgotten about. I think someone else posted a Boris song last thread or something, but damn they are fucking awesome. The whole album this song comes from is incredible.

Re: golf clubs, Phil is right, the R7s are like… four years old, maybe more? Since then, Taylormade has come out with the R9s (which are considered old now) and the R11s, which are currently in stores and with a little shopping can probably be bought for 500-600 new, as they’re likely to be replaced this year as well. The R series is designed for mid to low handicappers though (at least, R11 is), so if you don’t play a lot of golf you’d probably find the R7s hard to hit. I bought a set of Taylormade Burner 2.0s, which are designed for a bit more forgiveness than the R series.
Re: Mike C’s job offer, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with asking for more wage, but be prepared to give a reason for it. Reasons like “I want more money” might be true but you’ll probably have to phrase them better than that, lol. “With all due respect, I’ve done a bit of research into other jobs and I feel my worth on the open market is a little higher than your current offer” or something like that. If they ask which jobs in particular would offer you more money, you’re under no obligation to say anything… “I keep job offers I’ve received private, including yours, as a courtesy to everyone involved” or whatever. You should also have a plan in case they say no. Sometimes they’re playing hardball with you, and you should almost always give them a day to think about it (I would caution against just accepting their first no on the phone at face value). If they come back in a day and say “sorry, we’re prepared to only offer you this”, then you’ll have to decide whether that’s acceptable or not.
Or just do what I do in job interviews. Coldcock them and take their wallets. Works like a damn charm. They won’t even let me in a Burger King anymore.
I went and worked up north for awhile, which evidently has pushed up my wage band quite a bit… probably permanently. not really the most generally applicable solution but it seems to work
Part of me is excited for SC5 but parts of me feel the series lost its mgaic after SC2. Soul Blade was amazing, Soul calibur 1 and 2 rocked. then After that I felt the newer character design went down hill. Maybe Im just getting old and hate the new art style that the JPN artists do now. I feel this way about Pokemon. I hate the new character designs, then there is the RPG’s now where its ether Neo Tokyo or everyone has a thousand zippers and buckles.
It’s only SCIII that blew IMO. SCIV was a great “smash” type game for partying with friends. Haden’t had that much fun with a fighting game and booze in a while. But SCII was far and away the pinnacle IMO and SCV is looking a lot more like SCII.
And for the first time since SCII the character designs in V look fucking INCREDIBLE. Really really really like Astaroth, Tira’s and Cervantes redesigns, which I’ve never thought previous to this one. And Ezio is like the best 3D character model in VG history.
Yeah SC4 was fun. I think it’s just the new characters they add I dont like, cause you can tell its a diffrent artist, that designed the character and feel like they dont belong in the same universe.
