im gonna stick with makoto. meaty s.rh has a lot of setups that give you enough frame advantage to combo:
ex chop -> hp hayate -> s.rh
ex chop -> dash -> neutral jump -> s.rh
backthrow -> hp hayate -> s.rh
sweep -> feint f+hk -> s.rh
but it has enormous pushback that’s compounded by wakeup pushback, so the followups are character specific. i don’t think i can do anything to boxer on hit for example because he’s pushed almost half a screen away.
and of course i’m gonna play mvc3!

Yeah, Ryu’s uppercut is 3 frames and trades into ultra (in Vanilla) but it’s still easy for a lot of characters to make it whiff.
Sagat is strong in Vanilla, but Akuma keeps him in check. Abel-Sagat was 5-5, IMO, and both Sim and Ryu did fine against him as well.

i really think that if vanilla had a 10 year run by the end it would boil down to sagat, akuma, seth, and (maybe) rufus.
if it is console SF4 then I’d put Cammy on that list instead of Rufus

Every character in the HnK fighting game has some ridicuolous shit to them so it works out in the end.
Well since it’s Arcade version of Vanilla in Japan Seth would never be in that list unless Japan gets out of that Arcade only mindset. Rufus would still be in that list he does well against all the top tiers. I mean at SBO we saw new Rufus tactics with that far s.RH beating Ryu’s c.Forward and the amount of things that combo off of that thing is ridiculous. Justin told me that he started to use far s.RH more after what he saw in SBO.
remember how much ex messiah did (210)? j.rh -> ex snakestrike (90 + 280)? how rufus had 1150 health? haha.

far rh is +2 on block too, sets up nice frame trap into c.lp xx EX tornado
far s.rh, f+fp combo corners anyone for free (I always wondered what f+fp was for)
or far rh, sweep combo… 200 damage, 350 stun hard knockdown with awesome spacing yes please
far rh combo into U2 is the most OMGWTF of all its follow up possibilities tho

j.RH, EX Messiah still does ridiculous damage. I’d still take Vanilla over SSF4. Less match ups to deal with. lol Just perfect the Ryu, Sagat, Akuma, and Rufus match up and you’re good.
I’m pretty sure given enough time Akuma would have passed Sagat as the #1 char in vanilla too
f.hp is also good as a wakeup pressure thing sometimes
combos into ultra in the corner as well (and mp snake strike i believe…which you can link into ultra when he lands)

If your’e talking about EX run stop to U2 for Guy, he gets an extra (maybe 2?) armored hit after he presses the followup for ex run now. The move was so ass in Super they had to do something. I don’t think Guy will have to care about safejumps in AE at all, lol.

I was aware that Guy’s followups were “armored” now, but I thought that just meant the 1-hit armor was extended in case he didn’t get hit during the run part. Allowing extra hits to be absorbed is pretty crazy.
I don’t think EX messiah did 210 damage in Vanilla? That sounds way too high (that’s higher than tiger uppercut!) I think it only did about 130-140.
