3v3 was actually really enjoyable haha, good games guys!
A lot of new faces i didn’t recognize today, i’m gonna stop bein a lazy fucker and make sure i get to tubbydog every wednesday now until MAHVEL BAYBEE MADNESS. Having drivers ed on weds threw me off for the past month or so ><

I guess if MvC3 can be this hype I’ll have to learn it.
MVC3 will never be that hype. It took MVC2 10 years to get to that point.
I dunno I think MvC3 is going to be really hype to begin with at least. Listening to that Wake-Up SRK podcast about all the characters, I definitely agree with Keits that the early stages of MvC3 are going to be all about gimmicks and figuring out stuff that your opponent won’t know. That in itself is going to make the game a really big crowd pleaser and I think will generate a lot of hype. I’m thinking about this in contrast to SSF4, since there is very little that really surprises people anymore about that game, at least until AE is available to the general public. I think that on a footsies level that SSF4 can have some very entertaining matches (Daigo vs Valle at SCR), but think of moments that get commentators screaming and they usually aren’t counter-sweeps. Stuff like Daigo’s full screen counter-hit FP into super at SCR is what gets people really excited, and I don’t think there are too many elements like that left in Vanilla SSF4 at least. I think MvC3 will have that kinda stuff for years and years so I’m expecting a lot of stream love for the game, and I think that’s where a lot of the hype will come from.

MVC3 will have hype but it’s not even come to the levels of hype that MVC2 generates. Give it 10 years and we’ll see.
IMO hype is completely in the eyes of the beholder. If the community wants a game to have hype, it will. MvC2 has “so much hype” in part just because the community wants it to. If MvC3 is a blast to play, it will have just as much hype, because people will enjoy playing the game and it will show.
MvC2 has hype, but it’s basically “historical hype” at this point (“omg, this is an epic rematch from…” or “wow, people haven’t beaten so and so for X years”, etc). As far as “exciting stuff happens during gameplay” hype, MvC3 can easily match it, I would think.
And don’t forget “stream monster” hype, which (as Zak says) MvC3 should have in spades. Both SSF4 and MvC3 should be very entertaining games to watch on stream for years to come, so I think the FG community is in a good place in that regard.
