Calgary Thread 2011

I don’t need the controller at all.

I’m fine getting the stuff from him and just leaving it in my basement until you either come to Calgary or someone from here goes to Edmonton. I won’t make a special trip up, but you can still put your name down for it if you’re interested and we’ll get it to you somehow over the next few months I would imagine.

In other news… holy crap:

The Chun one is awesome, but we’ve seen Chun combos from desk for a while now (though 8 different special moves + ultra in one combo is wtf). The Fuerte one is just really, really cool. Wonder if I should go into training and try and do the Fuerte one?

I dont think it’s impressive at all. All versions of run are exactly the same except for ex obviously having armour.

holy fuck i’m fucking freezing
its -30 without wind chill

I went to scrape my windows this morning, and it was some kind of uber-frost that had many properties in common with steel

by the time I finally managed to clear part of my windshield I was like “WTF” when I discovered my windshield had a layer of uberfrost on the inside of it as well, and both my side windows

i just said FML and drove to work basically blind

Shoulda drove Ace Ventura style with your head out the window

I can’t contort my face enough to do Ace Ventura justice tho

edit: also, after watching that batch of vids of Marn playing MvC3… I am much more excited for that game now. it looks like a lot of fun the way he plays it.

zero is on my first team for sure…

likewise, storm/trish/chun looks unreal

fuck skrull, chuns assist is soooooooooooo badass, its like a cross between cyclops and psylock

haven’t seen Chun’s assist yet. vid link?

right now I’m kinda thinking the first team I’m going to mess around with is zero/tron bon/doom

Zero for the rush down, Doom for his rocks assist altho apparently it is nowhere near as good as it was in MvC2.

Tron just looks like she is capable of slugging it out but I’m not too sure about her… might swap her out for a character with a good air dash so I can do those crazy and super-fun-looking mixups.

speaking of sf4, i did makotos trials last night because i honestly have no idea how she works, but she is actually pretty fun to play

i didnt know you could jump cancel a lot of her stuff(even u2? dayum)

check this out cody

pretty awesome fights

Right, but after training myself to use LP for run in RSF, I’m not sure if I can break my muscle memory enough to use all three buttons back to back and then EX to boot (and then keep going after that too). Just feels like it’s impressive dexterity to me, but maybe I’m overestimating the difficulty. Next time I can be bothered to turn the game on I’ll try it and see.

I really have no idea how to play MvC games. Everyone else is talking about going in the lab and messing around, but if I ever play this game I kind of think I’m going to have to get someone to tell me exactly how to play, and then I’ll just try to X-copy. I won’t be able to experiment and find my own stuff because I have no idea what to look for.

eh you can figure it out Ricky for sure
the same basic concepts as SF are still at work, its just how you execute them that changes

tyler those fights looked great. Chun’s asssist does look really strong…

Maybe I’ll just focus on beating people in Yomi instead?

Nah that’s not nearly as cool, lol.

dont worry about it ricky, i don’t play vs games at all but i don’t think it’ll be a big deal to pick up marvel 3.

REALLY basic concepts from SF are there but you have to approach it differently in MVC, imo. Your general spacing, footsie, and rushdown game is very similar to Guilty Gear, Blazblue, or any fast paced fighter.

Question… Do u guys think MvC3 will be bigger than SSF4AE?

I play the biggest game for good number of competition. Is everyone in Calgary gonna be playing MvC3 while SSF4 is on the back burner?..

I work full time and we got lives outside of the community, so I have to dedicate and invest my time gaming on 1 title only. I choose a game, stick with it and try to take my level to another level; SSF4AE or MvC3?

or you can suck at both like me :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sticking with SF4 mainly and just fucking around with Marvel.

ggs last night btw. When you taunt non-stop like that it makes me take the game more seriously

the main thing to try to do is keep an open mind. a simple analogy would be like forza/gt to need for speed. on one hand you have a basic set of fundamentals that are universal and concrete. things like spacing and the pace of the game are pretty predictable because of rulesets that keep the game “normal”

mvc is like need for speed…who needs to slow down when you go around corners when you can just slam into them at the right angle and use NOS

just try weird stuff - do you notice a certain normal’s juggle seems a bit longer or strange or the animation is different? try throwing in an assist that will come out when that weird juggle state happens. try re-launching, try super canceling it, try kfc dashing in, anything. same goes for normals/specials. in the vid i linked, it looks like chuns kikoken either crumples momentarily or just has crazy hitstun. other players that ive seen play chun just leave it at kikoken but more enterprising players like jwong figure out ways to use these weird situations to lead to giant damage

theres like an endless amount of situations, i plan on spending every minute with the game that is not with you guys in training mode figuring out weird matchups like morrigan vs thor and shit
