C.Viper Combos and Glitches

hey i’ve got a setup for you guys. i dont know if this is already known or what, seems like it should be but just in case i’m posting about it. if you do a jump cancel ex burning kick (with the right timing, using the 270 motion, but with delayed button press) right next to a standing ryu, it will hit him 2 times. the first hit will knock him into the air, and the second will go over his body and then cross him up and hit him backwards. this sets up the same ambiguous superjump that a crossup (“instant”) jump cancel burning kick would. i dont know if there are any benefits.

 1. Easier if opponent is in the corner, ex tk will go though so you are stuck in the corner for FFF.
 2. Sometimes if you are at max distance for ex tk to hit you can land in front of them but other than c.hp xx seismo is good or even ultra.

Just another thing I’ve been playing aroud with, traded aa fp tk, dash forward to ex bk. Usually I get 2 hits totalling the same amount of damage as a regular bk but with the same amount of stun as a follow up fp tk. In corner its easy to get 3 hits for more damage but I’m pretty sure I managed to get 3 midscreen somehow. Probably with an insta ex bk or something.

on wakeup i’ve mashed out a ex bk out of desperation and somehow did a wonky bk that hit the opponent ftw.
like she sj back but then went foward like a question mark shape.
i’ve done it twice in the past week.
idk what the inputs are but it was very effective, the opponent had no idea where she was going to hit…neither did i lol
anyone ever do this and know the input?

It could be a kara cancel of sorts. Like when you cancel one move into another, but the second move keeps some of the properties of the first. I think something like this would have been discovered ages ago though, but I only started playing Viper again recently so I wouldn’t know.

I main Viper, but for the most part, I’m pretty terrible with her, and I know I need to get better at my game, but I was wondering, in which order should I work on Viper’s mechanics? the things I need to learn are:

 1. Footsies
 2. Using feints effectively in zoning
 3. using feints effectively in combos
 4. Insta-HJC BKs
 5. Wakeup mixup.

Opinions? For the sake of argument, let’s say that my execution is pretty bad.

Well if you have bad execution its hard to rank these in order.
For one, footsies is hard wtih viper since she doesnt really have any and can be beaten out of almost everything.

For zoning, her real zoning tool is seismo’s, some can say her flame kicks and super jumps affects spacing quite a bit as well. I find spacing decent, but using seismos for zoning is kinda hard. especially with seismo’s horrible recovery time.

I think the 3 item is completely useless to use her effectively, until u get her basics and mix ups down, there is no point in doing FFF’s, a c.hp into ex seismo is almost as good. Since FFF is distance/setup dependent (cross FFF works on sagat, but not smaller character, perhaps depends on distance?), sometimes even character (guile)

i think instan HJC is really important and is core to her game, but if thats all u know how to do, its not helpful, but i wuold think instant sjc bks are essential to her game for knock down and mixups

wakeup mix up is what viper is all about, learn her setups, distance, options etc.
to mix up properly u need to know ambiuous jump kicks, and cross non cross bk’s, strings > feint into throw/pokes/seismo/over head etc.

But i started off with c.mp or c.mk into thunder knuckle, and seismo into bk’s…

Like any other aspiring Viper player, you wanna go balls to the wall, put fire everywhere, and shock the shit out of everybody. My advice?

Downshift out of Overdrive, Turbo. Know your ranges, learn your punishes, be confident in your defense. These all lead to damage, and momentum swings. It’s about conditioning. Nothing is free. Gotta earn the big jump-in damage, unless you’re playing witless idiots.

Hey guys, I’m new to the viper scene. Just getting started with her. Couple questions, whats the best inputs for doing the EX seismo into burning kick ultra midscreen. From what I’ve read and seen you need to be above them when you do the BK and it works. Problem is that sometimes it works but it drops the person after the first hit if i activate the ultra when they are like waist high, but sometimes it does work. I cant seem to get it like this video. Only way I can get it to work is by just doing the burning kick late and hope I’m above them.

Yeah, that’s basically what I do. Works almost consistently though, when the spacing from opponent is good. You can’t do it from all distances. Like everything else about her, this is context sensitive, including what character you’re fighting. Sometimes you have to enter half of the ultra going the other direction.

To SJC her normals into ultra. Is it best to do the 360 motion or do qcf, uf, qcf? If I do her normal, and I end up doing doing ex-seismo, does that mean I didn’t register the SJ or I did it too fast or slow? Also, what is the reason I end up doing the super instead? Does it mean I didn’t end in forward when i press PPP?

It is best to do it whichever way feels more comfortable to you. Personally i do the second method you have there. If you’re getting ex seismo, either you didn’t SJC, or you didn’t hit all 3 punches. If you get a super instead, you did it too fast and super-cancelled the normal. You have to time the SJC for one of the last active frames of the normal so that once you’ve buffered and hit 3P, the active frames of the normal is over, but you’ve SJC’d it, so the Ultra is free to come out, if that makes sense. This means each normal has a different timing for SJC Ultra. If you’re too fast on the 3P, even if you’ve done a correct motion for SJCing the normal, the Super cancel takes priority, and you get a normal->super.

Thanks for the fast reply. Time to practice to my hands bleed.

sup guys … i saw a video where the viper ex seismo’d then dashed in for an ultra … is it a HJC ? if so can u guys tell me how/or give some tips on execution … i have pretty much everything else down with my baby maya ^_-

i’m pretty sure this has been asked but i can’t run through 39 pages to look for it >_> …

It is a SJC, best way to go by doing so is Down->Up +(focus)-> dash -> ultra

Or

Dp->Up forward(all one motion) + focus -> ultra

The thing about the second method is you usually automatically get the dash after the focus which simplify 's thing a bit

sry i should have posted the video that made me ask the question …

… at 3:00 sanford does ex seismo without two extra bars to FADC in … so i was wondering wats the motion for the HJC dash in … or do i just do it quick as hell and practice that way ?

thanks again … and sorry >_<

EX Seismo, :d::u:, mp+mk, :r::r:, ultra.

Some people use the same motion as doing seismo to seismo but just with a focus attack but I use the above method. Practice just the seismo to focus in training mode to get the timing down, then start adding the dash.

I was wondering if there is a shortcut to rapid seismo feints. I can’t seem to get it down. Any suggestions?

is there a thread for viper’s option selects?
i can do a couple but i’m wondering what others have come up with.

naw, just raw input. Make sure you’re holding the stick properly and bring back the stick to neutral every time. Mucho practice sir.

easiest way i find is after the ex seismo, input f,d,df,upf + MP and MK (sjc dp motion + FA). Timing has to be after the animation for ex-seismo, so make sure you don’t do it too early otherwise you get SJ only, or a normal fadc.
here is truetech’s vid for it
