Hey Threesided, in yourcombo you included "-/ " what does that mean in the combo
and also on a side note im trying to get good at C Viper and she is the first character i hope to be good at, my execution is not good atm but im hoping that practice can make me better in that regard. Iv been practicing my Rapid Seismos and its quite hard but i am improving but do you recommend learning BnB combos before learning tech like Rapid seismos n stuff or even just go to a different character
That’s a little something I picked up from FlyingVe. It means the character is landing after being in the air. I never saw it as very necessary, considering that j.H > H makes it quite clear that you’ve landed, but I’ve decided that I want to be as clear and specific as possible in my input write ups.
Well, as you probably already know, Viper is a pretty damn hard character to take up as your first, especially if your execution is low. I wouldn’t say that you should drop her as a character just because of that, but you should keep in mind that you won’t be able to play a decent viper until you can fairly consistently do some of this stuff. That being said, I’d say go ahead and give her a try. If her stuff proves too hard for you, then just play a poor-man’s viper (and do badly), or if you’d rather win more, don’t be afraid to just play a completely different character. Do her missions to just get a feel for her as a character, and come back to her every once in a while. Eventually, once practice with other characters improves your execution, revisit her, and decide if you’re “ready”. Then start picking her up again.
If you decide to stick with her, or eventually once you come back to her, I’d put priorities in this order:
Learning how to land the hit (triangle dashing, grabs/comboing off of grabs [hard with ground grab, but doable], etc.)
Basic solo BnB combos (If you’re going for basic 1 meter use combo, try to hit at least 550K. If you’re going for more meter use and damage with EX, try for 750K)
High-usefulness tech stuff. Rapid Seismos, TK feints used to get in, etc.
Incorporate TK feints on-hit into combos if you haven’t already.
Incorporating assists into combos. Most useful for relaunches, usually OTG seismo > assist hit > BK > launch.
Start working on advanced tech stuff: FADC etc.
Try perfecting your combos. Incorporate things like step kick loops, use your other assist that can’t be used for relaunch as a combo ender if you can, etc. Maximize your damage. This is where I am right now.
Start trying to perfect all the advanced tech. Is is a process that no one to our knowledge has really managed to master yet.
I wont quote because what you said was directed at me lol but thank you so much for your help and for the moment i think that i may just leave her because im using a controller and to do some of this stuff i think a stick would be essential although iv seen some vipers in SF4 with controller but FADC stuff just seems imposible for me and ill probs have more fun just sticking to someone easier. In saying that i can do a lot of what you mentioned but the advance stuff like rapid seismos i know are crucial are hard for me to do consistently and basic skill like triangle dashing i cant even perform so you last think i ask is can you tell me how to actualy perform a triangle dash because i cant find any body who tells the inputs lol, thanks in advance.
I use pad (controller) too.
The input for triangle dash is pretty simple, it’s basically just IADDF, or Instant Air Dash Down Forward, so that’s:
SJ ( :d::u: ) > Air Dash Down Forward ( :a1:+:a2:+:df: )
I don’t know if you’ve figured this out yet, but you can use the right trigger for anything involving 2 or 3 buttons, so it’s essentially a 1 button dash, or the easy hyper button.
I think I’ve optimized my team’s bnb - I was doing this at our little local get together the other day and everybody was like X_x check out this flashyness:
tri jump H, cr.M, H, thunder knuckle M~S, cr.M+Doom Beam Assist, H, thunder knuckle L~S, M, H, thunderknuckle L~S, M, H, thunder knuckle L~S, M+Strange Bolts Assist, H, thunder knuckle M~S, (hold back on joystick for a moment and let opponent fall very slightly between the two bolts of the assist), M, H, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, jc, j.M, j.H, j.S, seismo L, burst time
922K damage and builds around 1.75 meter
DHC into a mashed “read a book” does 1.08 million damage for a loss of .25 meter
edit - works anywhere on screen and carries entire screen if starting with Viper’s back in the corner. Doesn’t work on Viewtiful Joe, Rocket Racoon or Arthur from what I’ve tried so far, but those characters will die from relatively basic combos anyway, lol.
Can someone post the combo that you can follow up after a grab or seismo? Its kinda like the box dash but you feint BK ,H, feint BK, H.
The easy one is:
jCxxj214C~S,jC,::jS
The harder one is:
jCxxj214C~S,jCxxj214C~S,jC,jS
I use the first one in the video in my sig if you wanted to see it.
^Thanks!!
noteP1=bolts of balthakk P2=vajra
doesn’t work on small characters, but keep in mind some small characters have an enlongated hitbox while getting hit (I.E. I was doing this on x23 who can just stand under bolts, but this combo hit her)
trijump S, MHP1, 236M~S (P1hits) 236M~S, 236H~S (P1hits), H, 236M~S, MH, 236M~S, MHS, j.MMH, dj.MHS, land, P2 623L, 2369H, 623L, 214AA
something like 915k, but with that vajra relaunch that threesided posted I’m sure I can get more
the last 236M~S, M is really tight, and have to delay something in order for the S to hit (or they’re too high)
you can box loop instead though. makes it a little easier, but it’s also fairly tight timing, believe it’s completely necessary to Super jump it
I think you might be able to get this on small characters by going straight to 236H to launch them into balthakk. can’t check right now but if balthakk hits really high up you might even get more damage simply by doing 236H~S, 236M~S, 236H~S, otherwise might have to place some normals in their
So what’s the best bnb if you have both plasma beam and vajra assist? New to Viper, trying to optimize everything. Thanks, this sub forum rules!
So I picked up Viper again because I feel like she has less trouble with the character’s X-23 losses to. So this is what I came up with.

Any tips on how to improve it are appreciated.
So I’ve been experimenting with the newly found Optic blast relaunch. It’s not turning out very promising.
Overall it seems really character specific, but on most characters, seismo is effected by HSD too much for it to be useful. I can’t even get a basic starter > box loop > launch/air combo > optic relaunch.
On some characters I can’t even get it to work at all.
With the Optic blast relaunch, it doesn’t work with seismo combos. You can go for one mTK feint on hit, then launch.
It actually does more damage than other more difficult solo bnbs, but it’s corner specific. I actually like it. It seems nearly impossible to drop on certain characters, and builds decent meter for solo viper.
Having combos that you can hit even online are important for viper, but as you stated, it drops on certain characters.
Thats a really good combo. Also another thing you can try is to do a seismo tk bk and then launcher into seismo tk bk instead of two box loops. I can try to get a vid up showing this. Also You can use sentinel to extend vipers combos. I have a video a couple pages back showing how it works.
Like FlyingVe said you can use Seismo>Seismo>(pause)>IA L BK but I find H BK to be more consistant. You can then follow up with a S SJC j.H dj j.H j.S land, seismo xx super. This nets around 828K of damage from her L M H TK feint (on hit) M H Seismo etc bnb.
Imo the difficulty in terms of timing is around the same as the seismo, disruptor assist, bk relaunch from vanilla.
Viper’s combos can get pretty open-ended. It all depends on what you feel like, really - thunder knuckle loop, box dash loop, mix of both, ex thunder knuckle combo, ex burn kick relaunch combos, step kick combos. If I were using the team you mentioned, I’d make this my bnb (based off my team’s bnb):
say, opening from a triangle dash j.H - cr.M, H, thunder knuckle M~S, cr.M+Doom Beam Assist, H, thunder knuckle L~S, M, H, thunderknuckle L~S, M, H, thunder knuckle L~S, M, H, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, jc, j.H, j.S, land and immediately call vajra, rapid seismo L x2, (vajra hits), seismo L, qcb+AA
If you start with your back to the corner, end with rapid seismo M x2 then dash up after the hard knockdown the seismo L, hyper. This would work on all normal to big size characters including wolverine, felicia and zero - for Arthur, Racoon and V.Joe just do normal thunder knuckle cancel to box dash combo.
Does around 888K I think for one meter - not bad, but not optimized i’m sure, lol (i have no idea how to take advantage of vajra as an assist in combos). DHC’ed into sphere flame does just over a million.
Thanks a lot man!
Can this work with Iron mans beam assist?
No, Iron mans beam doesn’t cause the opponent’s feet to leave the ground. I think doom’s assist might be the only one that allows viper to do it. Magneto’s is close enough to follow up with the M, H but falls out of the low TK.
How long did it take most of you to learn how to Rapid Seismo consistently? I feel as though I cant even begin to play Viper until I learn that because its so essential to her zoning game. I’ve messed around with her a few times but she seems too high execution for me.
