C.lp > c.mp: Plinking or Double Tapping

On paper it’s 1 frame link. I don’t exactly know how it works, but c.lp > c.lp > c.lp can be easily done by button mashing. I’ve seen some post somewhere before saying this kind of mashing combos can’t connect with a special move directly (back in SF4 days). I might be totally wrong about this, but anyway, it works in SSF4.

No, you’re wrong. It can connect to a special move. I also think you’re trying to indirectly call me a masher. Is this assumption correct?

No, don’t get me wrong. I do c.lp X 3 too.

You’re probably just linking the third c.lp to flash kick rather than cancelling it. Since c.lp is +4 on hit and FK has a 4 frame startup, it’s doable.

Special moves have a much larger input window than normals - the flash kick would be pretty easy to link after a c.lp. This is the same reason Ryu’s F+HP -> SRK is so much easier than F+HP -> C.HP.

Yes, now I remember. The post I read was about cancellability after 3 lp’s: c.lp X 3 can’t be cancelled into FK, but can be linked to FK. This property is still the same in SSF4.

Thanks for clarifying it.

You CAN cancel those into flashkick, but you have to make sure you link the last one, not auto-chain it. You see, you can press the cr.lp really quick for 3 times and it will combo automatically, or you can link them by waiting after each hit when you have recovered. The way with SFIV and SSFIV is that you have to link the last hit of a combo if you want to cancel it, you can’t auto-chain it.

My first post after a long year of leeching and learning :arazz:

It’s also worth mentioning that you could p-linking with bnb combo’s such as

lp > lp > lp > (p-link here) s.fp

what i always do is what they called piano-ing across the punch buttons from Fierce to jap.

This might be mentioned before elsewhere but I couldn’t recall reading this specific info :looney:

The plink only works once. So either you plink the s.fp with a mp OR a lp. Pianoing all 3 punches won’t get the s.fp out easier lol. Shame that it can’t.

let me clarify a little, i came to the idea of piano-ing across is because right after i hit s.fp with my ring finger, my index and middle finger tend to hit their respective buttons at the same time. I got this nailed in just less than 5 seconds. And this works for me consistently enough. Probably because i have weaker fingers.

it doesnt work well for me if i use
1:index finger(lp) + mid finger(s.fp) - not sure if people do this, looks like i’ll have finger cramps after hours of play

2:index finger(mp) + middle finger(s.fp) - to execute this, my palm would lose its fixed position on the stick

3:middle finger(mp) + ring finger (s.fp) - to master this method to the perfection, it is going to be another painful process just as when i was first learning the standard p-linking method

trivial stuff, i know.

Ah, okay. If you hit the other button as a result of your plinking, that should be fine. I have the same fingering set up as you, ring = :hp:, middle = :mp:, index = :lp:.

Either way, regardless of how one presses the buttons, it should be comfortable for the person doing the pressing and should come intuitively. For all we care, you can be using your palm to plink hp. If it works for you, it works for you. =)

Nah it’s the same thing. You’re probably not noticing it because you’re better.
Personnaly i don’t plni . I only double tap rarely while doing special cancel like lp lp mp Hurricane kick(I double tap the Kick) (for Ryu)

Has for guile i never double tap …Muscle memory it’s enough.

All this plinking and everythiung so overrated anyway . You,re not going to be a god because you plink.Just by praticing and knowing the matchup = enough.

I’ve noticed that too. Feels like the timing is less strict and there is slightly more time for you to link cr.mp from cr.lp. I find it easier than plinking or double tapping by linking cr.lp~cr.mp through sound, animation, and rhythm.

From what i am reading it seems plinking is only possible on a stick. I was wondering is there is a way to do plinking on the pad? I use a PS3 controller.

There are a LOT of handy techniques that are, sadly, next to impossible on a pad. Ever since I switched to a stick my Guile has improved tenfold. Honestly, trying to play charge characters in general on a pad is so difficult. You’ll never be able to be as fast as someone who can use their wrist to jam a stick around.

Wikum, I know its just in our heads, but I’ve also been hitting this link with 90% accuracy now. I could maybe do it 5-10% in Vanilla. I have no idea what the difference is, but I never bothered practicing that link, and when I went into practice mode now, I was instantly hitting it. So its not that I’ve “finally” internalized the timing or something.
