The ryuenjin seems to always have its first active frame or two from the shadow even when Zero is hit, it’s a very strong assist.
Dr. Strange looks absolutely fantastic.
Nemesis seems to have really high dmg output.
it didn’t look like a counter to me at all. it just looked like a really fast, high priority beam.
^^^^ That’s a fancy looking Magneto.
I’m confused about this. Does it actually hit from behind, setting up potential unblockables? Or should it be defended normally, in reference to the point character.
It is a counter. It’s used in the comics, Seven Rings of Raggador is the name.
Rofl, go Team Venture?
hes so awesome. i dont care if gambit is in the game anymore. Capcom made Doctor Strange awesome
Projectiles in most any fighting game can’t cross you up themselves. You can only be forced to block by a character depending on where they are on the screen. Just like the Dhalsim/Seth fireball port left rights in SFIV. They try to move around you during the projectile to force you to block the wrong way. Generally characters cross you up, projectiles just act as outside hit boxes that tag you when you aren’t blocking the character. With a game like Marvel though those kinds of mix ups are pretty much all over the place.
Looks like it hit Dante from behind which is awesome …
i
its a projectile counter super so no projectile thrown at him = no counter
Yes, please use Zero as an assist so he can get gibbed.
Well, there’s Urien Aegis. But I agree with you…does this mean that the bolded information is incorrect (or worded poorly)?
Watch the trailer when it’s used against Sentinel. The beam doesn’t activate until the Drones come into contact with Strange- thus, it seems to be a counter hyper. Either that, or it’s damn broken since it looks to have a lot of invincibility on it (and so can be used to punish pretty much any hyper, as opposed ot only projectiles, which would more than make up for any startup it has).
(I’m still chuckling at the fact that Strange has two crumple moves, one of which looks like it might be a normal or a command normal unless I’m missing something. Maybe it’s “only” a jumping normal, though that would still be hilarious.)
I doubt Dr. Strange is broken. He just looks really, really good, even with acknowledging the truth that DevilJin brings up about how a trailer is made to show what a character can do/make them look good.
If we’re talking about possible weaknesses, then he already has a few as other people have also noted:
[]Lower-end health - To be expected. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had the same total as Strider, though I think he has more. This problem is “solved” by not getting hit. Simple or, at least, something that you should already be aiming for, especially in a game where it’s so easy to get killed in one combo anyway.
[]Lower-end power - Thankfully, it looks like it’s this way now, at least if you’re comboing into the Vishanti super. If the Vishanti did more damage/had more hits, then yeah, he’d probably be busted since he can possibly punish you from literally anywhere on the screen. This problem, if it doesn’t get solved early by some combo-“maker”, then it will be solved by resets and assists, especially given he has the set-up options between Eye of Agamotto, those “bits” plus Flames of Faltine, Flight, Air Dashing and Teleports. He’s not exactly lacking in tools to reset you…
[]Complexity - That itself might be a problem, especially since more tools means more motions (unless you’re Dante, in which case Capcom will, for some reason, make it even easier for you mash things that were already easy to perform), which means more potential overlap. I call this overlap problem May Syndrome, the signs of which are being squishy and annoying; I wonder if Strange fucking love dolphins like Dr. Doom…but I digress. But, yeah, he has, like, 8 different specials between the Eye, the Flames, the bits, the Bolts, Mystic Sword, Teleport, Flight (that’s most likely done with :s:, though) and the counter specials. I’d imagine there’s some overlap there, even if I personally think that the Eye of Agamotto is probably done with QCF+:s:. And then on top of that, you have to set things up unless someone’s unable to get past Mystic Sword… This problem is “solved” by practice; it also helps that his supers are rather straightforward.
[]Meter Whore - And I’m not talking about Morrigan, though I imagine she and Strange will get along just fine. He seems to build meter well enough by himself, but that Vishanti super seems like it’s too good past up, especially if you can kill someone considering it can be used twice in the same combo. The same goes for having Seven Rings of Raggador always stocked against characters with projectiles (or projectile supers). This problem is “solved” by meter management or just using Morrigan or Amaterasu’s meter building assists.
Those are the only particular problems I’m noticing right now and, complexity aside, they’re not looking particularly glaring.
Fixed given that MvC3 is barely six months old and will die before it’s even a year old. Also, it’s not like Super Skrull doesn’t get used. He just gets used by people that tend to do one or two things and nothing else despite having like dozens of (very precise) things that he can do.
It’s certainly a possibility, though.
That kinds of defeats the purpose of it being a counter, though. Also, even if it’s “only” a counter, considering late it seems you can activate it, it might literally be impossible to chip him out if he has meter, at least if it doesn’t counter only projectiles (which I hope it does). Hell, part of me even hopes that it only counter other super projectiles, but that’s just because I play Chris and the prospect of getting my face blown off even when the Magnum is like twice as fast in UMvC3 is just saddening.
Those are unblockables. Not really the same as being crossed up. In other older games blocking too many things at once forces your guard to basically break. The Aegis doesn’t cross you up or anything it’s just when Urien forces you to block a normal during the Aegis the game can’t compute two attacks hitting you at once and breaks your guard.
No. It’s only an unblockable if you do Aegis from one side and switch to the other (mainly through kneedrop). If you do an aegis on the same side, the best you get is a high/low mixups while he’s in blockstun.
From the Urien section:
Ok after watching the video again it definitely hit Dante from behind and caused a crumple. Boss shit. Also I retract my assumption it really appears that despite all of his tools he has no air dash. Interesting.
Yeah that’s definitely a more accurate representation of what’s going on.
Strange will definitely be able to cross you up with teleports into the beam but the beam isn’t going to cross you up like it’s its own character on the screen. The only way the beam would hit you is if the beam is literally unblockable. Which I doubt. Then again knowing Marvel you should always expect the unexpected.
If the beam crossed you up by itself Dr.Strange would have self unblockables that are better than Dorm’s and that would be pretty f’n cheap. Pretty sure they’re going to force the point player to cross up with a teleport to cause them to move forward into it.
