"By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth!" The Doctor Strange Thread!

What are the commands and positions for his teleports? Are they fixed or dependent on the opponent’s position? I know I should have picked this stuff up from the footage, but I can’t seem to put my finger on it. Still curious how his ground dash works, and if it has any viable purpose.

I already have a few teams in mind for him, and am very intrigued. Just want to understand as much about him, and particularly how his execution learning curve is looking, before the game is in my hands.

meh not like it hurts him.

I would much rather have an air dash than not have one.

I updated the first post with everything I know about his specials, including his teleport. :l: puts him in front, :m: behind, and :h: above opponent.

How was his ground dash, was it normal like regular characters. It would be pretty hard to play as Strange if his dash doesn’t work like a regular one.

I said that and was ignored.

Also, thanks maziodyne. Sorry I didn’t just check OP.

Strange is a very strong character but isn’t derpy. His damage output seemed low, partly due to no airdash, as well as subpar DHC options. I think an otg assist will help max his potential with a realunch.

Setting up Filters takes quite a while, to the point where it may rarely be worth it. When you have them set up well, you can be pretty damn tricky though.

Projectile counter is awesome, and pretty instant/invincible. I was doing discs and saw Ryu did Shinkuu, but cancelled immediately into 7 rings during super flash and it worked. It’s also blockable (I ducked a deadpool air gun and did it as I saw a bullet pass over my head), but seemed safe and did chip.

Overall, in this build at least, I think he’s top tier as he’ll be figured out. Left right mixup is strong cause of fast teleport, decent keepaway, can chip, and can shutdown almost any other zoner.

Hey guys I found some footage of Strange whiffing his level 3. It looks like its a projectile that goes half screen at least, but what’s tricky is that it comes back after it leaves his body, much like Cap’s shield. Interesting.

Also, check out how this dude uses Dormammu to teleport fuck the other guy while calling Bolts of Balthakk, pretty hot.

^good find dude, now we know how Astral Magic works. it’s apparently a projectile like I thought. wonder if it can be used to whiff punish?

I’m sure on reaction it can catch people if they’re doing something stupid, but what I’m wondering now is if the spirit will still capture them on it’s way back…

^yeah that’s what I wanna know too. it could probably be setup with assists to hit on the way back.

lol not even looking at his opponent die, what a boss.

more stuff I found out:

  • finally saw him use his dash. it’s the normal kind, not a weird dash like doom’s. wavedashing distance is pretty poor.
  • Eye of Agamotto bounces off assists.
  • Bolts of Balthakk seems to be more or less the same height as Thor’s Mighty Spark, meaning it will whiff on certain characters even if they are standing. it whiffed completely on Strider in neutral position (fullscreen) in one of the videos. it’ll probably have a bigger hitbox the closer Strange is to your opponent’s point character.

(Oh great. Like 50+ videos to go through already and I fell asleep before I could get anything done with something else I need to do on my end. FML.)

So, anyone besides Ketchy Kech or Foxhound manage to make it to the “Fight Club”? Or are you not allowed to talk about it, meaning they’re both traitors?

Potential death penalty–are we having fun yet?!–aside, Bolts of Balthakk seem…odd. In olaf’s embedded video, they do indeed look like the crumple Tron on the first hit. However, in Cygnus281’s first video, they look like they cause Zero stagger. Maybe they crumple when they hit cleanly and stagger on counterhit?

All I know is that if Bolts of Balthakk can cause that amount of stun, which probably explains why it’s so easily duckable, then Astral Magic just got a hell of lot easier to combo into even outside of the corner.

It might still interact with it though, but it just looks like it doesn’t hit since Ghost Rider’s chain is otherwise physical. Think of Strange’s Eye of Agamotto as (potentially) a compact beam (like, say, Arthur’s Lance), meaning that it has a lot of durability and will physically stay on screen until it’s completely exhausted. So, given that Ghost Rider’s chain seemed to take 7 or 8 hits off of its seem total of 10, it looks like it might just be durable.

Either that or really does just lose an amount of hits over time/distance traveled, which would be…odd. Difficult to say, though.

I can’t say I’m surprised at either of those things. Did you get to test out his flight mode? Or did you have to stick with teleport shenanigans since people were being unnecessarily cutthroat?

I don’t see why you would want to teleport (unless the opponent is in the air) given that Strange teleports relative to the opponent.

It looks like it just a releases a yellowish fireball that hits the other Doctor Strange instead of Zero, which is rather underwhelming for three glyphs. Wonder if it does something else if it hit all of them…

Lol, I don’t know about passionate. It’s weird to see anyone use that word with regards to me. It’s more like “very bored and prone to distraction” combined with having too much free time.

Nice to confirm that Spell of Vishanti tracks. No wonder it does so little damage.

Yeah, part of me is somewhat glad he doesn’t have an airdash, especially since people kept comparing him to Phoenix. So, at least Jean gets to keep something over him and he doesn’t become another Magneto whose stupidly good at zoning AND rushing down.

allow me to save you guys the trouble of compiling info from countless matches of randoms just standing there for 10 seconds… while they figure out how to use a damn arcade stick. it’s getting pretty painful to watch but if it means finding more info on the good doctor, then I would happily go through more match footage.

regardless at the rate we’re going, we will likely have uncovered his entire moveset by the weekend. lol. people on stream just need to experiment with the orbs more so we can find out the effects for certain combinations. the only one I know for sure is that 3Y causes crumple state.

(And it looks like alerts are still screwing up for me. Sigh. I need to find out why.)

Looking at the video that GomuGomu posted in its entirety, it seems like El Maiz was probably correct in his initial judgment. Eye of Agamotto simply looks like it does lose hits the more distance it travels, which is weird, but I guess makes sense given how slow it moves and how fast Strange teleports (even though it disappears if he’s hit, it seems); it also explains why Ghost Rider wasn’t having to block multiple hits of it from across the screen.

I did see a video of people trying to combo with flight in the air , seemed to work nothing great though

What someone posted in gamefaqs, from his friend who went to the fight club:

so im guessing his health is around 700 to 750k

The reason why i thought that it didn’t interact with projectiles is that two eyes went through each other.
But you’re probably right.
