I’ve used that team before as an alt. Doom is just so damn clunky and I enjoy punishing assists from full screen. My question is really more how ppl feel about dorm /strider
I don’t think there’s any point at all in backing Dormammu with Strider except for a few rough matchups. Even then, you’re only going to get Purification into Chaotic Flame off of any hits. Unless Vajra recovers fast enough that you can follow up a hit with a combo extender - I haven’t tried it. Strider should be paired with characters that can get full combos off of his hard knockdown. There are a lot of them, but Dormammu is not among them. Dark Hole is also decidedly mediocre for Strider.
Is it not possible to do 3reds off of a strider hit? For example strider hits then explosion black hole chaotic flame. I don’t have the exact numbers but that should be at least half life. B hole being bad four strider isn’t really here nor there since he is the anchor.
If you want to use your Dark Spells up on that, you can do it. It’s still nothing compared to what characters like Doom get.
I’ve been messing around with assists that hold the opponent in place long enough to get Dark Spells mid-combo, for instance in the corner you can do LMH > F+H > Red > MH > F+H > Virgil Assist (Rapid Slash)/Doctor Strange (Eye) > Red > Blue > S > blah blah blah, but I haven’t found anything better than the corner loops.
The most useful application of this I’ve found is charge two reds and one blue then OTGing with it at the end of a combo, hard tagging into Dante and going from there. But that requires very specific team setups that don’t seem to benefit Dante too well for combo extensions.
Have you guys got anything with this?
Any time you use a Flame Carpet in the corner you can charge a spell.
For example, with my team it is possible to do:
LMHS > SJ > H xx Fly, LHS > Land > Charge L, Flame Carpet and Wolverine’s assist > Relaunch into delayed MMHS > Land > Charge L, Flame Carpet and Iron Fist’s assist > Charge L, Liberation (3D), Dark Matter xx Dark Hole L xx Chaotic Flame
The final charge and spell release is very tightly timed because this team doesn’t really give that kind of capability to Dorm, but any team with long exention assists like Cold Star or Agamato like you mentioned should easily be able to combo into fully charged spells starting with none.
In that combo I’m using just H xx Fly, LHS because it spaces you perfectly when you land so that you don’t get a weird Flame Carpet juggle even if you held up forward for the super jump.
It’s not very useful otherwise, but Tenderizer lets you get 2 charges in corners (well, at least in Vanilla).
Guys… I’m depressed I don’t know what in the blue hell to do against Dante, freaking dude just comeback’ed me as anchor. He eats my Deadpool/Dormammu/Dr. Doom team for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and supper if he’s feeling british.
Best advice i can give u is read your opponents teleport patterns. once u do just aniticipate and airthrow , if hes an anchor u dont even need to worry about assists backing him up . just always look for the teleport and airthrow accordingly.
What he said. If you know that teleport is coming, he’s free for that throw. That’s your best bet.
Assuming that Dr. Doom is Hidden Missiles, just play it slow by calling missiles and running away. Lots of teleports. Assuming this is 3v1. If Dante is in XF3, just run. Same goes for any other character. It’s never worth the trouble or time to attack a character in XF3 unless it’s an obvious opening.
Yooo how you create space with this character? I seem to have some kind of curse where certain characters I want to play just happen to have some slow ass normals. Right now i’m running Mags/Dorm/Doom but i’ll probably transition to Zero/Dorm/Doom or…something… I dunno, I have to figure this guy out.
I’d explain my playstyle and gameplan but that would take awhile, so i’ll just mention what I am having trouble with.
So ideally I DHC Dorm in with some Stalking Flare and Purification+Missile spam, and I pretty much fumble for charges when I can, but right now my Dorm just relies on straight up random chaotic flame and Stalking Flare spam, and when I run out of meter im practically a chicken with his head cut off, I just don’t really have a solid gameplan when I run out of meter or if my point gets tagged and Dorm comes in naked.
Right now all I feel I can really do after someone gets in is just pushblock, try to super jump fly plink dash out of the corner and maybe charge up a spell and come down with some j.Ss. Is that really my best option if someone is closer than full screen away? A whiffed purification feels like death for Dorm, and unless someone is full screen, my teleport mixups just seem to get molested.
I think its just a matter of getting used to the character, as i’ve only played him once and I do feel really powerful when I have meter stocked and a stalking flare out and I space all my shit correctly.
TLDR- waat do when someone is in my face pressing lots of buttons.
My advice is to play Dormammu without assists to really learn how to handle him well. After I stopped using active assists, my skill level skyrocketed.
Here’s what you can do.
Put out Flame Carpet wisely. You can use cr. M as your anti-air if someone jumps. People forget how good that normal is even though it got nerfed a bit. If blocked, cancel it into st. H -> Dark Matter or Purification L (since DM can whiff on someone who is in the air too high). Going for OS air-to-air H is another option. Throwing out a meaty st. S from a bit away can help too. Pushblock and then Chaotic Flame gives you space as well. Try to go for air throws if you can.
Can someone link me to the ultimate solo bnbs for dorm because this starts from vanilla and I can’t seem to find anything helpful. Sorry for being lazy.
Quick beginner question:
In the corner, how can I use Flame Carpet to Otg > air combo > S and have them land without the Carpet still being there?
It has 5 hits and then it disappears, so you’ve gotta wait for all of the hits to be used up. Alternatively it disappears after 180 frames/3 seconds so if you can make your launch series last long enough before the S then it can also disappear by itself even if the hits haven’t all be used.
I too am playing Mag Dorm Doom (dunno if you switched away from mag at this point), but one thing I recommend that I do… try to get Dorm out before mag dies, whether via DHC, TAC, or in some cases, hard tag. If things go well, I can build Dorm a bit of meter before swapping, but the idea is your Dorm will not only have the missiles zoning game, but also the Disruptah - teleport crossups. Having both of those at your disposal is amazing, and makes Dorm twice as threatening IMO.
My question, separately, is if anyone else who runs missiles Dorm could break down their strategy. I posted above asking about specific lockdown sequences (which I’d still love to hear), but now would like to hear some general input on some overall goals, mindsets, times you like to call missiles, non-missile attack approaches, etc etc. Simple example of what Im getting at being to use a missile call to try and cast 3 spells then use the liberation move to protect another missile call, repeat, etc.
I know Dorm takes a lot of freestyling and situational reaction, so please dont bother telling me to experiment and figure things out and watch videos, or some other variants of the obvious. Ive been doing that for weeks, and it’s been working great. I am definitely not at square one. I (and other people) just like seeing stronger players discussing their strategies and goals and game plans, because invariably we’ll learn new things to implement into our own approaches (mine of which Im happy to share, I just figure there are better players with more valuable things to say) and help validate the things we’re doing right. But anyone willing to delve into their missiles-Dorm mindset and discuss what it looks like when the opponent gets strategically blown off the screen, it would be amazing for the Dorm-playing community, and personally… I’ll read 50 pages of it thrice.
Thanks guys, I’ve doing better against, I know it’s just getting used to the rhythm of the matches vs the Sparda Bros. Karst, I’m actually using Doom’s Plasma Beam because of the mixups I can do with Deadpool and Dorm’s teleports. But yeah, I have to learn to run, I just go headstrong and that’s really REALLY dumb. BTW is there a Flame Carpet Bounce/OTG Guide or something, if not, I would love to give it a shot at making one. It’s awesome to know that you can slaughter a Wolvie on the corner with it.
hey guys what do you think of this team ? viper - b / dorm - a / mags - a
