Burn in the Flames of the Faltine! Dormammu Combo/Strategy Discussion thread

I had only a couple of minutes to test: I find out that it whiffs against Amaterasu, Wolverine, Arthur and Chris also if they are standing (i didn’t try with the whole cast).
I did not test with the opponent crouching 'cause the lack of time but tomorrow i will test everything.

Let me know what you discover.

Loving Sentinel/Dormammu/Shuma-Gorath. I think I’ll stick with this unless we get Blackheart.

I really like Mystic Ray for Dormammu, but it’s slow. After seeing some Dormammu play I’ve been finding that he’s more reliable as a mix between rushdown and zoning, using fire carpet and teleport to mess with people getting in and to help with assist mixups. Still not sure what to run for the last slot, but the two work together quite well - maybe Quick Work? Deadpool seems to work decently with the other two, but he doesn’t really help with fullscreen pressure/zoning.

I got it to work on Wolverine Standing i didnt even realize you said chris. If they are crouching you can either Heavy TP or Mp TP and aid dash and hit S fromt here everything should work.

The point was that air dashing is too slow (and risky imo).

Are you sure that you got it to work on a standing Wolverine? Because i tried it and it doesn’t work at all (i’m talking about :m: teleport, air :m:, land, cr.:h:, :s:)

So far I’ve find out that it doesn’t work on standing: Amaterasu, Wolverine, Arthur, Chris, Viewtiful Joe, Akuma, C. Viper, Ryu, Storm, X-23, Felicia, Morrigan, Hsien-Ko, Trish.
Doesn’t work on Tron and MODOK too, but with them you can do :m: teleport, air :m:, land, STAND.:h:, :s:.

When you test it please pay attention on having the character in the middle of the stage and on the ground when you teleport, because if they are airborn in the moment when you appear you can do combos which are impossible on a grounded opponent.

Katana-rama is great for relaunching with Dormammu - adds another 150K or so to his combos. I’m going to mess with Shuma-Gorath/Dormammu/Taskmaster tonight.

I’ve used Task-A/Blank/Dorm-A almost as long as the games been out. . .Task seems to be able to apply a ton of pressure with dark hole in front. . .and with the right middle assist it works well bring dorm out late game… I think I’ve done Sent-A,Wesker-B,Shuma-A,She-Hulk-A,Ryu-C,and lately Jill-B. . .

If I recall correctly, A is Taskmaster’s forward shot; I’m actually looking to try his vertical shot, because it seems to cover the superjump range and also apply pressure independently of Dormammu. Theoretically, it will also help Shuma-Gorath’s aerial approach, since he’s traveling with a posse of arrows. I figured Dark Hole would work well for Dormammu. I actually plan on making Taskmaster the anchor, Shuma-Gorath on point, Dormammu in the middle.

It works on alot of these characters standing(croucnhing varies, you can test that as you like) you just need to delay it. A prime example being wolverine(chris also). Tp Delay the mp and the do cr.hp use auto guard to make sure your timing it right, if the combo meter doesnt at least reach two you did it wrong. Now the relaunch varies depening on range and hit box size but will always work if your oppent is cornerd. If you cant relaunch cancle cr.h to flame carpet and mix up.

Extreme Dormammu Basics!?

Hello guys!

Im quite new to fighting games in general, and to this forum mas well, so that’ll explain my noobyness :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I recently picked up MvC3 (my first fighter :O) and have slowly been growing used to all the characters, and the way they work. I have had a couple of problems with certain characters, but none as vast as those I have had with Dormammu. I COMPLETELY fail with him, and am at a complete loss as to how the hell I am meant to control him xD

He has a crazy variety of different moves - I just need some help getting used to them.

So, could you guys give me some pointers to get started with him? Just some basic combos and st00fz?

I would just youtube it, but videos never really explain to me what I am doing at each step in a combo or move, so… I hope you guys don’t mind my total noobyness! xD

The main Dormammu thread is designed with starting players in mind.

lulz.

Tested out some Dormammu+Dante A combos:
*The forward dashes are only necessary if the combo is initiated from midscreen.
*Against smaller crouching characters, such as Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Arthur, skip the 2M.
No Hands:
2L>2M>S>sj.M>sj.M>sj.H>sj.S, Land, Dash Forward+Call Dante Assist, 3H, Dash Forward, S>sj.M>sj.M>sj.H>sj.S, Land, 623 L/M/H>[236A+A]
Meterless:489,400. With Chaotic Flame: 669,400

1D2C:
2L>2M>S>sj.M>sj.M>sj.H>sj.S, Land, Dash Forward+Call Dante Assist, 3H, Dash Forward, S>2147H, 236L/M/H> [236A+A]
Meterless:610,400. With Chaotic Flame: 790,700
Does less damage to smaller characters, such as Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Arthur, and vice-versa.

I know, but as I tried to get across, I am really new to it all… I quote from the thread:

“The simplest combo, then, is this: L M S (wait a moment) sj.M sj.M sj.H sj.S OTG Use Purification strength as necessary - you may have to use H instead of M. Purification needs to be canceled on the first hit for Chaotic Flame to connect.”

I struggle with even this, so was wondering if you had any tips for real beginners :3 I’m new to fighters, and dont have a fight stick, so I find it all rather difficult. :S

…then there’s a newbie forum for this. In any case, what particular part of the combo are you struggling with?

Don’t worry. Clearly, I have posted in the wrong place :frowning:

Also, Putter, do you know someone called Nick by any chance? He lives also lives in Sacramento :3 Just a thought :stuck_out_tongue:

do the mission modes, it will show you how to play. Try it out also, if you press L>M>S you will see that it combos. You cant just read something and expect to learn it, most people learn more through trial/experience.

I have tried out the missions, but I guess I just didn’t try hard enough xD Thanks for the advice

Here some great advice…Master the art of The Flame Carpet.

Aim for a few missions every day, with any character. Just keep working at them, and eventually it will all click. Your issues seem to be game-related more than Dormammu-related, so I think practicing anyone’s missions will be useful for you.
