The kid died, call the assailant what you want but its only a shame that society has even raised such a circumstance (A very serious one that you shouldn’t downplay) and for once they tried to do the right thing. Shit took a drastic turn. You say the kid got away with murder, I say he got away with his life. If the best you can do is judge him, for all the things he could’ve done in hindsight, or being “weak,” then what does that say about the world? Hypocrites in the face of fear, only by getting stronger do we lose it. Easy to tell those who feel powerless that they are in the wrong.
Thats on his shoulders forever. Going to jail most likely wouldn’t produce anything. If hes a real threat to society its a coin flip. He could come out from jail angry and hating the world, or sulking over the life he’d lost due to his judgment. Only benefit would be some peace to the family. We weren’t there for the verdict. We’re just here judging someone we don’t know on a message board.
Since when does self defense equal murder? There are lots of people calling this person a murderer when it just isn’t so.
Scenario 1
A man gets off a bus/train and is followed by 3 thugs who mean to do him harm. Escape isn’t an option, so the man defends himself and one of his assailants is killed (not murdered). This man is not a trained fighter and just got lucky with a punch/kick/brick/whatever. Nobody is going to call this person a murderer. (hopefully. Americans have wacky laws and wackier people who enforce them) Self defense with lethal force is completely justified in this case.
Scenario 2
A boy is physically and mentally abused on a regular basis by someone who is bigger and stronger than him. Every day he is filled with fear because he doesnt know how his abuser is going to come at him. Maybe just some cruel comments, or maybe he’ll get shoved into some lockers or onto the ground. Most of the time it is going to be in front of a group of people. It’s always embarrasing. Now he finds out that he is going to get beat up when he gets off the bus after school.
He feels like he is going to throw up. How can he stop this? He has a swiss army knife that someone gave him. He can get off the bus a few stops early to try and lose his attacker. When the boy gets off the bus, his attacker and a few of his friends follow him. The attacker punches him in the back of the head. The boy feels that he is in real danger now and shows his attacker the knife and tries to escape again. The attacker physically prevents the boy from fleeing. The boy closes his fist around his knife, squeezes his eyes tight and starts swinging wildly, hoping to stop this person from hurting him. He opens his eyes to see his attacker doubled over on the ground, bloody and clutching his chest. The boy sat down and cried.
This whole altercation took no more than 30 seconds.
I dont know how it went down for that kid. That was just a similar scenario.
When does bullying stop and assault begin?
Florida of all places made the right decision on this one. The kid showed the attacker that he had a weapon, tried to avoid this bullshit by getting off at a different bus stop, and was still attacked, and STILL tried to get away before being forced to defend himself.
The old mentality has to go. You cant just “get over” being bulied. It’s not a right of passage for some unfortunate kids. Its assault and it drives some chlldren to kill themselves, or in this case kill their bully.

Like seriously, I just saw the one video on Tosh.0 where the kid just repeatedly punched himself in the face, and he is honestly way, way smarter than Monkey D. Malcolm.

Moving is, first, a huge expense, finding a new home (in this economy), shipping, new jobs, and the constant fear that your child can get bullied again.

What exactly can the parents of the bullied kid do? It’s not every area that has multiple high schools to switch to, moving is rarely an easy option and talking to the school will only bring the parents of the bully in the equation. The parents of the bully rarely see their little angel as anything other than a little angel.

Up here in NH, you can always walk if you can prove someone was infringing on your right to “live free.” In New Hampshire, there are no prisons. Only the right hand of God.

What I was concerned about was how little the details were in what happened during the fight.
Alright so if the bullies buddies had cut his chances for escaping then why didn’t they do anything while their friend was continously getting stabbed? Were they trembling in fear and unable to quickly respond to getting their friend away from the kid? Or did they pussy out and flee from the fight the moment they saw the the bullied victim draw out the knife/shit getting real? Maybe something else I don’t know.
Also, did the bully get back up after being stabbed once or twice and stupidly decided to try to finish the fight only to end up getting stabbed more.
There are other questions I have about what happened but from what I can remember from the article is that they only just explained what had happened before and after the fight, along with what bully’s parents and friends are feelling after the incident. I’m just saying that there is just not enough Information about what was really happenning during the fight. The article is just mainly focusing on trying to make us feel sorry for the bully because he died. Which is impossible because had if he not bullied the kid, none of this would have happened in the first place.
At worst he’d get manslaughter, which is okay with me. But besides that, the kid will now go to therapy likely his entire life.
