Buffalo, NY- We drink tears as liquid refreshment

I could’ve sworn rufus had a pretty bad match against gief too. Since he has to play up close and whatnot. When i was messing around with Rufus i had a really, really hard time vs gief. All i could do was space him with cr.hp, and EX snake strikes, but if he got in i was in trouble.

What about learning Seth? I’m sure the matchup will change by the time SSF4 comes around, but it really is just stupid easy to beat Gief with Seth.

I have a question for you guys. The tournament I’m going to March 7th, there is a Blanka player there who is supposedly pretty good. I have an extremely hard time fighting Blanka with Akuma, and the mirror really is a 50/50. Who do you guys suggest, other than Balrog, I try and learn before the tournament to deal with Blanka? I say no Balrog simply because I can’t stand playing him. Any advice?

Do you have a stick and can you piano lp xx electricity?

If you can do that, might as well try Honda (lp xx hands is essential). If you think its a good idea I can try to break down the match for you. I think its 6/4 Honda, basically comes down to staying solid and whoring Hondas damage. It’s not free by any means, but you can play charge so it might work out.

Abel VS geif = if your abel your just as good as dead lol. fighting zangeif is like doing surgery,
certain things you just can’t do against him, like jump towards him and put pressure on him, Sadly
thats Abel’s main thing (to get in close and stay close to do damage). it’s all risky business that could
lead to your demise if your not too careful…

Blanka? it should be easy since it’s your character. I mean you know whats punishable and I’m sure
you seen most of the blanka shenanigans. I say buckle up in training mode for a few minutes and
figure out the best way to deal with all that shit… like figure out the best move to punish blanka ball
with akuma.

Mr. G, Jeff3 says that offline, the Akuma matchup is prob 5.5 in Akuma’s favor.

Basically, SRK balls on reaction, and teleport out of all hop/bite/whatever mixups. Zone Blanka, don’t get hit by slide, but if you do you can always teleport on wakeup. Also, quote “Blanka doesn’t have the long range poking power that akuma has.” Remember to focus EX Rainbow.

Better than a coin flip?

“Blanka doesn’t have the long range poking power that akuma has.”

I disagree heavily with this. His cr.HP is an incredible poke. So is his st.HP, it’s active frames are seemingly instant and beat out the better pokes such as Ryu’s cr.mk. I guess it might just be that i play online. I just never throw the air fireballs correctly, that’s my biggest problem. All i try to do in the matchup is turtle up. Which also just leads back to only playing against Blanka’s online, as they just mash elec out of my combos and drive me crazy. I play a cross up heavy game, it’s hard to break out of that. We shall see.

And no i don’t have a stick, i can piano elec on pad pretty well, i can’t get the walking elec out though. This is when i need you guys most to practice haha. Anyone can play Blanka, I wish you(Jeff) or Jug could give me a crash course training session.

All right if Jug’s sayin it’s a lost cause, just play Ryu lol. I know he always looks for ways around that stuff, so if he’s sayin Abel’s dead, lol SF4 I guess.

Tony I’d say pick a character and just stick with it, but again lol SF4. If he really is a good Blanka I’m sure he’ll be able to beat a 1 week 'Rog, but again lol SF4. Who knows anymore haha, SF4 goddamn.

Tony G, stick to the character you are best with, or rather- most versatile with. Bad match ups are a part of SF4, the good players overcome them. Just come in focused and prepared and don’t get flustered. Remember, in a tourney against a never before fought opponent, people play conservative or arrogantly sloppy (on average). Just go in with your best character under pressure and play the patience and precision game. If you see hesitation or mistakes, exploit it.
This past tourney, I played against a fairly solid Abel, he near god matched me the first match. But at the end of the first match I found out things he likes to repeat, like when he likes to jump away or in, and the fact that he was poor at throw breaks. So guess what happened next match? Air throw express, followed by throw, jab whiff on get up, throw, jab whiff on get up (he jumps back) air throw. All day, I just didn’t get flustered, payed attention and stuck to what I could do. I got 5th without an once of practice before hand. I just came in with what I was comfortable with and forced my opponent to operate outside their comfort zone (nothing flusters ppl like getting thrown on 4 times in a row).

I’d say play Blanka. You hate the match up, but guess what?? So does the other guy! Take advantage of that knowledge, do aggravating shit, hit with some of that Tony G flare, get him off balance, then go for the throat. I mean, how often do Blanka mirrors happen in tourney? Almost never that I see… trust me, he’ll be scared, you now have the mental edge. ~_^

Yeah I’d say play whatever character you’re more comfortable in that matchup with…if you get annihilated first match, you can always switch…

In other news, I am off for spring break from this saturday to the following sunday…so feel free to hit me up to do things. I work Sat-Sun-Thurs-Sat but should be free most of the other days to do whatever.

Tony P, the idea that we all go out bowling has been brought up (no kyle NOT wii bowling). Shall we all set out for a night on the town this week and figuratively- let our hair down?

I’m up for hanging out doing non-game related stuff, but I also don’t mind if it degenerates to gaming

-B

I’m down to teach everyone how to bowl…the only down side to bowling is that it is expensive as fuck if it’s not a ‘special’ night…the only specials I know of are @ Tonawanda lanes on Monday nights at like 10 on…at least, they used to have 75 cent games then. I’ll ask my dad and brother if they know anywhere that has cheap bowling any day else.

And the night on the town is next week, not this week =( 5 more days of crappy class til I’m off.

well i know a few places that have midnight bowling, like 10 bucsk from 11:30 til 1 but they are around my neck of the woods which really isn’t too far for some of you guys. friday would be a good day

also jeff p has a new nickname, little white kid LWK baby

With a large crew we can do the following for great justice:

-Bowling
-Go-Kart (indoors)
-Rock Climbing (indoors)
-Casino
-watch a movie & order foods
-go to a social eat & drink establishment
-play party games (linked up xbox halo 1 or 2 shiz or mario party style)
-play some boardgames (though it’d prolly make us feel sad)
-when the ground thaws, play some pick up sports like football, kickball, basketball and paintball
-go to some museums and edjumacate ourselfz
-go to a club and laugh at our lack of game

any ringers there? We’d also have to plan for activities to commence later in the evening (if you want me to come) cuz I get out at 8. DOH

-B

What’s wrong with boardgames? Heh. There’s more out there than the family night classics. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t envy people picking up ryu as a secondary. I’d think of it as if for some insane reason I picked up sagat as a secondary. People have too much experience versus these characters. But do what ya gotta.

I’d be down for some non-gaming stuff. Poker anyone?

Thanks for the advice guys, but in hindsight, Blanka is going to be the least of my worries. I realize i have barely any experience against a lot of characters haha. Zangief, Fuerte, Chun are my biggest fears the moment. We shall see.

Brian, how about all of the above? I know with our group all those activities would be fun as hell haha. I’d love to get a chance to play paintball with everyone. Granted i’ll only have a week; i would like to do some of these things with you guys.

if u guys are doing the bowling try thruway lanes, spare time bowling center, and reekios. thruway lanes has a lot of room, and shit ton of bowling lanes. all 3 places have a bar, and i know 2 of them have food there, im not sure of reekios tho.

Hey is anybody having trouble with their ps3?

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/107/1072875p1.html

Alright everyone.

Hotel is booked. I am arriving in Vegas on Tuesday July 6th, and departing Monday July 12th…I am booking my flight when I get home from bowling tonight, but in all likelihood I’m gonna arrive in Vegas around 2-4pm that Tuesday, and hopefully book a flight leaving around 3-5pm that Monday so I don’t have to sit around in the airport all day with my shit.

Room is 2 Queen beds so sleeping should be pretty decent. We can figure out cost per person once everyone has their flights booked and knows how many nights they’ll be staying. The cost per night for the room is $167 with tax, so we’ll use that number to figure out how, to quote Balrog, I’ma get paid.

My buddy from Jacksonville booked his flight last night and will be there Thursday morning around 10am so we’ll be able to have some mad chillage before the event starts. I listed Kyle as my roommate so we get 2 room keys…mainly because he’s the only person whose last name I know that will be staying with us :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah, we’re all set so feel free to book flights whenever cuz I’ll already be there. I do believe we have to be checked out of hotel room by noon that Monday so unless someone else books another room, please try to schedule your departure around that…unless you want to sit in the airport for 68 years. Once I get my departing flight scheduled I’ll let you know my flight info so we can all try to hop on the same plane and share cab fees, etc.

SO STOKED.

Dunno about Fuerte and Chun, but Blanka crushes Gief last time I checked. Unless they kara EX hand on some weird just frame shit they can’t punish straight balls. Which is like, just do straight balls a lot lol. Also standing fierce a lot I guess? I dunno I’m sure he’s got a lot of ways to annoy Gief. Basically Blanka vs Gief is lolSF4 in your favor.
