Hi guys, I’m new to Bryan. My question is about switching him out safely. Does he have any safe defensive ways to switch himself out on opponent’s block (pretty much any move that hits twice). Also does he have any safe meterless ways of switching himself out through one of his combos besides boost (usually ending your combo in a groundbounce attack lets you safely switch yourself out for free).
I’ve played Hwo and Nina this whole time and I’m used to having lots of freedom when it comes to switching.
If you land a hcb + mk or hk that should allow you to switch out, I guess it’s possible that they could roll and get you, but you are pretty far away and it is an untechable knockdown. Someone posted a while back on this forum saying that if you’re able to juggle slowly and end in a mach punch, that should allow you to switch out safely too.
Snake pit works well for switch out, but it’s a bit more odd than most multi hitting tag out moves. The first hit has a lot of block stun, but the second hit will always come much later so that you can just reversal or even poke Bryan out of it. It can be useful but just make sure you aren’t getting caught by a counter attack.
Bryan doesn’t have great meterless switch options. Not sure about mk/HK knee, but like it was said Mach breaker during a juggle gives you a free tag against most characters. His best meterless tag out is probably f.throw. His throw game is actually pretty decent.

Just watch the corners. You do need to be a full screen away for mach breaker to keep you safe. And by safe I mean Julia’s super + roll will still always get you.
If you are having trouble connecting with the crouch LP after fishmans slam, you can actually listen to Bryan’s laugh. Just after the final really loud, obvious HA! you can input the crouch LP and you will connect the combo. Considering how obvious the laugh is I’m pretty sure this is intentional.

in the corner after a launcher you can still do hp xx fisherman L, hp xx mach breaker if you do the HP early. I don’t know if some characters have bad launchers for this so you’ll have to test it with your posse and your crew.
midscreen after a launcher I’ve been doing fisherman M (no slam), jab, gatling combo xx mach breaker.
Of course it sucks, but hopefully some new shit will pop up when Bryan’s attacks get faster. I could see a faster mach breaker creating more combo ending possibilities if you figure out some good juggles.
I can’t get either of these to work. Who is your launch partner? With the midscreen combo, how high are they from the ground when you hit them with the f+mk part of the gatling combo? Mine misses completely.
I have been unable to get an uncrouchable with Bryan. I have also been unable to do uncrouchables with Guy, so I am not sure whether it’s possible in this game.
Since his elbow is still safe on block, he should still relatively viable, and since j.MK can cross up. That’s nice too. Though is it just me or is j.MK like impossible to time to just hit normally?
They are both great anchors with strong footsies, to avoid redundancy, I would put Julia on point and use her to tag into Bryan. Unfortunately, Bryan has limited juggle combo potential, from what I have found, so you might have to work around with it or try Bryan on point. I just find Julia to be more reliable with what we know right now.
This is good. I finally got the hang of it. I was previously doing: [launcher] gatling combo (full), mach breaker. Yours is better because it does like 60 more damage and if you miss the mach breaker on mine and they quickstand you’re hosed. With your combo you’re more likely to miss the gatling after the c lp so you’ll still be fine. Thanks for sharing!
Right now I use whatever > hook, slam > sweep. Does barely less damage and sets up much better for oki. I also know that a lot of people (including me) use Gatling chain into Mach breaker finisher for more damage. For example, whatever > rekka x2, cr.LP, Gatling to Mach breaker.
cool thanks, I found you can get even more damage then just sweep and still get the sweep. Its probably known but
fish hook,slam, cr.lp->st.mp, link sweep slightly closer to the fish hook into knee drop.
I have been try rekka to cr.lp to gatling to mach breaker and couldn’t get it. gotta fix my timing!
Edit: dang just got rekka to cr.lp to gatling and it does less damage than fishermans hook combos… from lp,mp,lp it does 260 where as fisherman’s hook does 189 : (
Honestly I’m fairly confident he is already like…bottom 4. So I guess technically he isn’t going to be that much worse. Win?
I mean they’re making overhead -1 on block instead the previously announced -5 (dear god, once people got used to it that would be an easy punish for a slow ass overhead.) Plus with sweep buffed to be somewhat safe he’s got a lot more potent high/low game. I never really used Mach breaker outside of combos and to occasionally finish Gatling on block for some chip and pushback, but I’m pretty sure Gatling’s first three hits are safe anyways.
Still going to be a low-tier specialty zoner in my eyes.
Is his Bottom 4ness because of those recent patches and such leading up to 2013. He was the guy I played the most in month 1 of DLC and I remember him appearing and the consensus being that he was quite good. It worries me that someone I’ve seen on the blanka board puts Bryan there.
