Brother, You're Needed - Ultimate Thor Team Building Thread

FT10 :v

Lets see how much of that upback tech will save you.

haha just having fun bob

XD

No doubt weā€™re all buds, but even buds have disagreements in opinions. Nothing wrong with that so long as itā€™s hashed out without anyone gettinā€™ shot.

Dang.

Nah, itā€™s all good. I like healthy discussion, and weā€™re playinā€™ fighting games so getting riled up with shots and stuff should be part of the game. If the online were worth anything, we could all settle it out on that, but oh well. Iā€™m serious about wanting to see some first to 15ā€™s done. Thatā€™s gotta happen in some way, shape, or fashion. We gotta get out at these big tournaments.

No, Fchamp would have won the MM against Chris G if he were the better player. Thatā€™s how these things work out. Character match ups, knowledge, fundamentals, execution, and ability to adapt and thrive under pressure are all player traits. Players fight. Players win. Players lose. Not characters. The money match was about dead even until the 9th or 10th game. Chris G just so happened to have the mental endurance to keep at it full force for the rest of the games. That is why he won.

Iā€™d be inclined to agree with you if the start up wasnā€™t so atrocious. Mighty Tornado on reaction is a very flimsy tactic to rely on for that reason.

That wasnā€™t a very extensive test then. Sure, if both the hypers start up at roughly the same time and thereā€™s a good distance in between you and Taskmaster, then everything works out, but in practice, you should know that those conditions will hardly ever be met. If Taskmaster activates his hyper before Thor, and the arrows are like half to three fourths of the way there, itā€™s going to beat the Tornado, simply because the arrows will knock Thor out of the start up. If Thor activates Tornado any time before Taskā€™s arrow hyper, heā€™s still getting a few hits. If Task bates Thor into activating it, then Task just got a free punish with his arrows. Shoot, if Thor is in the air and just got through with Tornado, Task doesnā€™t even need to arrow hyper to punish. He could charge up his regular arrows to get that soft knock down, dash up, and convert to a combo. Tornado should only be used as an end to combos, and as a quick hyper to do in the air to DHC out safely.

Honestly, getting hit by missiles is a good tactic all around for any character, because the damage is negligible. Any character, in spite of his health, should be okay with that, and the benefit from it is that they get all their air actions back (save for fly, as you mentioned), and can call assists, which means if they have, say a beam assist, the can counter call the next missile assist from super jump height and while still ignoring most of the Astral Vision.

Itā€™s the best possible Morridoom team to beat Thor because, in spite of the ways that Thor can punish it, Vajra is still the one assist that completely goes against everything Thor wants to do. Thatā€™s the thing about these team games. Matchups change based on assists. Against someone who doesnā€™t care about staying in the air, Strider may not be the best Morridoom assist to have.

Well, keep in mind that that was Vanilla, so everyone was shuffling around not really knowing what was what with, and a lot of people really benefit more from experiencing things than they do talking about it. Now that weā€™re in Ultimate, I think itā€™s safe to say most everyone has a good bit of experience to draw from. When it comes to discussing things in general for this game, itā€™s the lack of a shared experience that causes the debate. Using me and Serp right here, obviously heā€™s experimented and worked out things that I havenā€™t thought about doing. Him bringing that to the table in the discussion enriches my knowledge and understanding of the character by looking at it in a different way. Iā€™m pretty sure Iā€™ve experienced things that he hasnā€™t run across either, and my goal in bringing it up isnā€™t to run around saying ā€œyouā€™re wrong, Iā€™m right, now shut up.ā€ Iā€™m hoping that I cause him to maybe rethink some of the points he made while taking into account some of the things Iā€™ve experienced and ultimately coming up with a modified point, or a new and better point altogether.

Hereā€™s the thing right. When looked at in isolation, I donā€™t have a problem with people trying to voice their experience and opinions. I donā€™t even have a problem with said experience and opinions being ā€˜wrongā€™. I donā€™t even have a problem with people refusing to accept that they are wrong in the face of well laid out rebuttals/proofs or whatever (that shows slight stupidity of course, but I can let that slide).

What I DO have a problem with is taking up condescending, better than thou type talk. Itā€™s even more ludicrous when you consider the above. Together these two things irritate the hell out of me.

A prime example is this current discussion here. Iā€™m not going back to dig up numerous examples, but suffice to say all that you have to do is scroll up and there is a gold mine of things like ā€œFor somebody who doesnā€™t understand Thor you speak with too much confidence :vā€ and ā€œjust because you think so or lack the fight experience with either character mr DJā€ interspersed with Thor matchup points which are extremely questionable.

And I mean extremely. In a way, I can vaguely understand HOW he comes to such conclusions, but the only way I can think of is to use rudimentary and narrowminded logic. Take that ā€˜wow look how good Thorā€™s mighty tornado is against Taskā€™s hyper arrowsā€™ as a prime example. And yet the guy is still talking trash to people!

I totally understand and think this way too for the record, its how we should all be to improve things. Sadly I have not seen an ounce of similar humility from Serp.

Oh but Iā€™d also love to see Saitsu versus Serp.

Real talk, if I FT15 there is a chance I would lose, since right now I play this game about once a week now if that. HOWEVER, I get the feeling I would outthink Serp in a game once my power levels were back to where they were. Sadly Iā€™m back at home after finishing my masters, so not got my own space to properly grind out practice and could never make it to the WSO bi-weeklies because of other commitmentsā€¦ on the plus side my personal situation has just improved massively in the last few days since Iā€™ve got myself a PhD position, so Iā€™ll finally have the money and space to get back into Marvelā€¦

I dont know man, i have the feeling the fight would just be free with you and Saitsu, just a feeling :v

The only Thor i have seen that can move, perform and think like mine is mr Royalflush Thor honestly. You Thor players have to step up your game and stop using his weaknesses as ā€œoh i lost cause Thor so low tier, so bulky, so weakā€ etc excuses, should focus on his skills/possitive points/mobility instead. But dont take the comments so seriously, this is just a game anyway >_>

I only play this game like once or twice a week and Iā€™d still body you in a Thor locked first to 15. Iā€™d body alla yaā€™ll. Real talk. Reason being, I know Thor. In and out. I know his limits, and I know how to exploit them. In every fighting game I play, my main character is the one character I always feel I can win against. RoyalFlush, Abegen, they ainā€™t nothinā€™. You, Saitsu, Chefā€“nothinā€™. Iā€™d put that on anything.

You canā€™t focus on a characterā€™s positives to the point that you ignore the negatives. Youā€™d get blind sighted by things that you shouldā€™ve been ready for every time. The reason itā€™s important to acknowledge and, in some instances focus on, the negatives is because if you donā€™t, your opponent will, and you wonā€™t have an answer for it when they do. If you think me or Chef or Satsu pointing out flaws is us making excuses for why weā€™re losing, then you donā€™t understand anything weā€™ve been saying, what our intent is, or even how fighting games work.

That said, itā€™s good that you go on about your escapades so readily, because you actually do work hard to bring some worth while tech on occasion. The Thor board needs that. The Thor board also needs people that look and comment on the tech to assess its practicality and overall usefulness. Truth be told, thatā€™s what I do with everything you post. I look at it in training mode, work on everything I can do to make it work, test it against various recordings to see if the cpu can counter it, then I put it to the real test when I try it out against my local peeps. If it works for a while, I keep using it. If someone walks up, finds a hole in it, and keeps breaking through it repeatedly, then I drop it as and think of it more as a gimmick to catch people sleeping with.

Like I said before, players are the ones who win games. Players fight, players win, and players lose. Not characters, and itā€™s up to the players to understand and work around the faults a character may or may not have. Itā€™s up to the players to pull together all the tech and gimmicks and use them to balance out all the faults that their characters have. And back to the trash talking portion of the post, because itā€™s all done in good fun.

Who in the world do you think you are? Seriously, come and level with me. You think you all hot stuff. Get bodied, dawg. Lemme see one of your matches on stream, anā€™ Iā€™ll tell you exactly how and why you lost and why and how your win shoulda been a loss. Cominā€™ here with that, ā€œThe only Thor player whoā€™s as smart as me is Flush.ā€ Come on, son. You know you ainā€™t nothinā€™. Iā€™d put money (if I had it) on @RoyalFlushTZ whoopinā€™ you, too. Iā€™d see Abegen annihilating you too. Iā€™ve seen your posts goinā€™ on about how you think he sucks anā€™ junk. You knowā€“I know you know, you just gotta knowā€“that heā€™d disassemble everything you think you know about the game by whoopinā€™ you all up anā€™ down the screen. I see OCV after OCV after OCV. Tron will get that touch, it will surprise you every time in every game, and you will lose every single time without even knowing why. Who else plays Thor? Oh yeah, my dude Mech. Yeah, @MechWarrior is creepinā€™ up on the come up. Heā€™s been headinā€™ out with the big leagues, pretty soon heā€™ll be goinā€™ Hollywood, like I know he could. Heā€™d body you too. Youā€™re not that good, Serp. Youā€™re not that good.

This is too goodā€¦yaā€™ll niggas out for blood.

lol well, i got into that online japanese lobby the other day and beat ABEGEN 3-0; just saying :v

If you want to fight me DJ, add me on xbox liveā€¦ i promise i will play my Thor joke teams and let you win at least one round out of 20 :v

Mech the dude i perfected the other day in the PJS stream? :v haha ok

btw i got a 30 wins streak in that stream yesterday playing the teams in my sig. That dumb cloud49whaever stopped my streak >_< hate that ZMC tier w**** jerk T_T

I dont have an Xbox nor a desire to take online seriously. Beating a guy 3-0 or getting a perfect over it and thinking thatā€™s noteworthyā€“I donā€™t care who the guy isā€“is not an achievement. Marvelā€™s netcode is the absolute worst and any wins or loses done over it should amount to nothing. When I started traveling to locals with competent players, I forcefully forgot that horrible thing existed. Canā€™t think of anything beneficial online Marvel provides. I used to think it was at least good enough for match up experience, but honestly, youā€™d probably get more match up experience watching a stream than pretending to play online. Anyone using win streaks as a measurement of skill automatically loses credibility in my eyes. Even when the match is supposedly good, itā€™s bad. Canā€™t stand Marvel online.

lol I would beat all you guysā€™ Thor with my Blankaā€¦what now, hos?

marvel online or offline is still marvel.

See how ChrisG is the same offline and online?

That statement is just simply not true.

You cannot POSSIBLY be that dense.

DAAYUUM your real talk went so hard I got hit by the cross fire. Why you gotta expose me DJ? haha.

Its cool, I really donā€™t claim to be a top Thor, so its all goodā€¦

ā€¦ but if anyone ever came along and said I below the level of someone who thinks like thisā€¦ THAT would be the most disrespectful shit I have ever heard.

Yeah, wtf DJ? Whyā€™s it gotta be like that? I ainā€™t got no beef with you. I only do MMā€™s out of beef.

haters gonna hate da best thur itw

Forget beef. Iā€™m eatinā€™ chicken. No discrimination between fried, baked, or grilled.

Not that I really care who is right or who is wrong but I did notice that serp said he beat abegenā€¦
Why are you playing in a lag ass japanese lobby in a game with some of worst netcode for lag ? Arenā€™t you in South America? Playing anyone on here or anywhere in the US shows absolutely nothing, other than that the match would be laggy as fuck. Something like that should never be used as defense for anything.

I havenā€™t seen any Thor play a match that I thought took full advantage of Thor, no matter what, and I doubt anyone here has either.

Until there are more Thor players who travel and play big competition then it will be impossible to say who is the best and trying to is nothing more than bluster.

Also because I never saw Serp play I looked it up. Here is a match from 3 months ago if people careā€¦ I make no allusions towards my thoughts on whether the match is good or not, cause I donā€™t care.

Its more than apparent now that every time serp is opening his mouth more and more ridiculousness comes outā€¦ its hardly worth calling him out over stuff like that anymore. Iā€™m not gonna even properly comment on that videoā€¦ this is supposed best Thor in the world talking smack to everyone?

Anyway enough of this. Whatā€™s been said has been said, time to get back to the Thor talk we actually come to these forums for.
