Brook Universal Fighting Board Thread

The updater won’t tell you if you currently have the latest firmware installed in your PCB.
But if you have plugged your PCB the right way, it should display you the Start button in the updater program. You don’t have to hold the Home+Select buttons once the stick plugged to your PC.

You only need to hold them before plug it in.

It worked today, for whatever reason.

I tells ya, computahs is mental.

I just put together a hitbox controller using a Brooks UFB. I having latching button switch wired between the J2 pin 4 and pin 5 to switch between the SOCD modes. I am seeing some interesting behavior with the SOCD modes. When I use the controller as a PS4 on my retropie setup or a XBox 360 on my PC, the SOCD modes work as documented. When I connect to a Nintendo Switch, I always get neutral for both simultaneous LR or UD no matter how J2 is jumpered. Anybody know whether this is a Brooks issue or something to do with the Switch?

Hi guys. Not new to SRK, but been away from the forums, fighting games, and the arcade stick scene for more than a hot minute (like 2013…). So I’m wanting to get back into it and I want to build a new stick. I want a universal stick, and I prefer wireless for casual home use. I was originally thinking about modding a Mayflash f500 + Magic Boots combo, but I prefer a nicer case and customs in general. I came across the Brooks UFB when I was browsing parts to get up to speed with what’s out there currently, and I thought it might be a better option if it’s possible to make it work wirelessly. So can it/has it been done? Maybe with a dongle similarly to the Mayflash setup? Would I be better off cannibalizing the Mayflash PCB, dropping it in a custom case, and running a dongle? Thanks for reading.

Best thing I can think of is doing some strange “Bluetooth to Project box”. This would be a pretty serious undertaking and could introduce lag. Personally you could possibly just buy a few Brooks adapters or make an adapter setup with a Undamned USB Decoder to Brook UFB. I’m not sure if the UDUSB is compatible with your Mayflash though.

It wouldn’t be wireless though.

Hey wikid, thanks for the replies as usual lately  I’m gonna hold off on the custom for a bit and do some more research. There are some new products slated to come out this year from etokki I may go with. In the mean time, I’m modding a Mayflash f500. It’s cheap, easy to upgrade, I can put custom art on it, and it’s wireless via a controller or Magic Boots. It actually showed up today, and I just finished upgrading it a few minutes ago. I’m about to fire up Tekken 7 and shake off 5 years of ring rust

Good luck and have fun!

I stand corrected. The Mayflash f500 is not wireless with the Magic Boots, it still needs to be plugged into the console via USB, it just no longer needs to be plugged into a wireless controller. Meh, it’s a damn good stick bang for the buck wise, and a decent starting point for returning to fighting games. My next stick will be custom

Yeah I think the only way it would be worth it to have a wireless stick is maybe have a pad hacked Official controller for the console of choice, but it costs a lot more, you still need to figure a way to charge it, and you’re pretty much stuck with that one console unless its dual modded or figure someway to use bluetooth dongles to adapters to get them to work on other consoles.

Agreed. I’ve been reading up on people’s experiences with padhacking and the possibility of a dual mod. I’m gonna try to contact Gummo about it, though I get the impression he hasn’t been very active in that arena as of late.

You can get a hold of him on twitter sometimes. He started a new job and is a new daddy too. I think he has a website if I’m not mistaken.

I heard, yeah. I haven’t tried twitter, but I did send him PMs on FB and SRK. I searched for a website, but the link is dead.

Yeah best bet is probably Twitter but there are other modders on here that would probably be willing to take it on.

I still prefer a pad hack from a official licensed controller.

I don’t trust brook to constantly support firmware updates. Or Sony does a official update and Brooks might not be able to make it compatible any longer. They aren’t Sony official licensed so they can’t guarantee compatibility. With these issues $100 is a lot to me for the issues. I have a xbox 360 TE fightstick pro I’m not bothering with the converters either as you’d need two one for ps4 and one for xbox one.

It’s easier to just sell it and get a new stick. And I have all the tools to solder etc. It’s just not worth the prices and time invested.

It’s just the PS4 which has the issues (even though the longest it’s been out of code as of late is less than a day), but if that’s you view on it that’s fine. I personally use mine for my Razer Atrox (one variant) and it works great for me, I only had to update the thing once after a Ps4 update, but they had it up later on that day. I’ve been playing DBFZ and Tekken 7 since then and no issues. If you got the Brook UFB it would only be worth it imho if you had everything the board is compatible with (Ps3/Ps4/360/One/Switch/PC). I thought you were just selling your TE anyways and modding the Alpha.

I plan on owning a switch one day but never a xbox one. Though I don’t know how many fighters I would get on switch that would warrant the need for a fightstick. I can still understand the need for one though. I am about to be attending local fighting events and while I suspect a lot of the game play will be on the PS4 that I can still expect other consoles to be played as well. It would be difficult to all of a sudden switch to a pad from a system you don’t game on and coming from a stick. So I see how the universal compatibility is a plus.

It’s just too expensive for what it is. I can buy a hori commander 4 locally for $20 bucks padhack something official licensed and never have to deal with updates or worse total drop of support. On top of that save about $80 bucks. I feel like the UFB is just meant for people who don’t know how to solder or too lazy to learn. And your basically paying for some convenience.

I am selling/trading the TE fightstick pro. It’s a paper weight as I don’t have a xbox360 and not interested in any of these Brooks accessories the UFB or converters. The Alpha I am modding and keeping. Should have my parts in the mail tomorrow to finish. It’s official licensed and portable so everything about it works for me. It’s even a plus to use it on PS3.

There is a lot old Neogeo fighting games on the switch’s eshop and a bunch of fighting games and arcade style games are on there that warrant it for me, I wouldn’t buy an exclusive switch stick though.

Also the ufb has the ability to be added to their new retroboard to add classic game console support which make that a powerhouse of a setup. With the UFB it’s much more than convenience of just the lack of soldering (which it’s not a bad thing not having a ugly pcb if you want to show off wiring and the insides), the convenience of having all those consoles is nothing to shake a stick (pun not intended) at.

I can see not worrying about xbox support though, they have the killer instinct games (I play them and are fun to me but I can understand if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) but not much other that you can’t get on ps4 or switch. Only reason I’d say get it for support other than KI is maybe your buddy only has Xbox and you go over to his house to play locally.

Then do a padhack. No need to piss and moan about the price of the thing.

I figured out that the issue with SOCD on the Nintendo Switch is a Brooks UFB issue. I bought an adapter that let’s me use a ps4 controllers on the Switch. If I set my UFB hitbox to ps4 mode manually and plug it into the adapter, the SOCD works as documented.
