Brook Sega Saturn to PS4 converter

Keep in mind there many replicas made, but for the thread were talking about actual game pads for the Sgea Saturn.

There are many bootleg USB Saturn pads on the market so be careful.
That said the USB Saturn pads were only intended for the PC, they working on the PS3 was a happy coincidence.
You don’t have as many options using that particular pad on the PS4.

If you have a USB pad you can probably use one of Undamned’s USB decoders. For anything that allows legacy controllers you can just use the pad straight up; I had a USB Saturn pad and it worked on PS3 with no conversion.

The ‘good’ ones were made by SLS and have a little SLS sticker on the back of them. There were a couple different attempts to revive the Saturn pad in USB form, and all of them are apparently pretty bad, but they account for a vast majority of the ones on Ebay.
Occasionally one of the SLS USB pads will pop up on Ebay, but they almost always go for $150-$200+.

what did it cost you to build that adapter?

@appomo The brook ps3/ps4/pc costed 39.95 + 5.oo shipping, The FGW converter was 15.oo + 6.oo shipping, The Sega Saturn Extension was 5.oo off ebay with free shipping. The project box, buttons, and usb cord i had laying round from going to yards sales over the years or just free stuff. I had the tools for years (soldering iron, solder) In all it costed me about $70.oo. Bit on the high end but was worth it. Im sure if Brook made one it would be half that.

We need this Saturn to PS4 adapter by Brook, I would buy 4 units at least. Please release it and take my money fast! Don´t underestimate the SF5 market on PS4. I hope someone at brook will read this

I would buy one.

i’m currently using SAT>PSX plugged into their PS2>PS4 converter which is a bit cumbersome. straight SAT>PS4 would be much more convenient, i would definitely buy one

Definitely would buy 2 for 2 players

are you using a keio or…?

I have the hori fight pad from when sf4 was released, the dpad on it is so similar but the buttons are irksome. Would buy the converter for definate

You know, Model 1 D-pads are a dream to hack. It uses daughter boards that you don’t need so you end up with a mini PCB perfect for wiring, IMHO this is the best use out of them.

One of my fist hacks so please be gentle.

This is an old thread bump, but whatever happened to this? Also with retrobit making new Saturn reproductions for both Saturn and PC, you would think this would be a thing.

I saw a YouTube video that shows a USB retrobit Saturn pad using one of the Brook super converters on PS4. Brook made it so the Saturn start button acts as a shift key when used with another button to act as a macro for the missing buttons on a Saturn layout.

I’ve read and seen good preliminary reports on the retrobit reproductions, but I actually have a lot of actual Saturn pads (and HSS-0130). Also used Saturn pads are a lot easier and cheaper to get. But retrobit is also a nice option for brand new.

This isn’t really about fight sticks at this point, it’s more like for playing actual classic Sega games or games that can pass as classic Sega games like Sonic Mania.

I have a Saturn to PS3/PS4/PC adapter that was made with Toodles’ Widget (which is no longer produced) and the MKX PDP Pad PCB. But the widget blew out the connector for L2, so the Converter is basically a 7 button adapter at this point. It’s sorta fine since I only want to use it for Sonic Mania and SFV (using the HSS-0130), but at the end of the day it’s still annoying. It was made by Gummo but he’s long since moved on from that thing.

Anyway first world problems, but the fact that Brook came up with the shift button option for the Saturn USB retrobit pad is really annoying because it’s a cocktease for an actual Saturn adapter.

I don’t think they’ll ever make one. They do have adapters that support the retro-bit Sega usb controllers and 8bitdo M30, the latter has the best d-pad I’ve ever used.

I asked them on twitter (LOL) and they didn’t respond. It’s a shame, I’d rather use my Saturn pads and HSS-0130.

Is there an adapter that I can use the retrobit Saturn pad for both PS4 and Switch? Because the Switch also has all them Sega Ages games in addition to Sonic Mania (which I don’t mind buying again to be honest, already have it on PS4).

Really lame that they won’t do it, and the fact that Toodles’ FG Widget no longer exists is quite a shame. With that gone, we will never see a Saturn adapter.

Well there’s this thing. raphnet. - Sega Saturn controller to USB adapter (v2)

But that guy can only get it to work on PC. :frowning:

Just use the 8bitdo M30, I like it more than the Saturn pad, I find the dpad to be more accurate. I use it on PS4 (with Brook adapter), Switch and PC. I got rid of my Sega Retro-Bit controllers because of that.

I completely forgot about this, you can get a Saturn Mod Kit from 8bitdo, it will work on the Switch and PC. It may also work on the PS4 with a Brook adapter, but I’m not a 100% sure. I got the SN30 Pro Plus and the M30 to work on the PS4.

Man…I just added the kit to cart and saw $38. For that kind of dough, I’d prefer a M30… especially if the D-pad is better as you say.

Edit: I caved and ordered both.

8Bitdo kit arrived. I was able to install in a legit black model 2 gamepad and a Retro-bit reproduction. No fitment issues except for one on the Retro-bit. About 1mm of plastic needed to be removed from each side of the cable exit area on the bottom case…to accommodate full insertion of the micro-USB cable connector.

Two snips of a side cutter made that quick work.

While not as crisp as the OG controller’s shoulder buttons, the actuation on the 8bitdo board’s shoulder button switches was much more responsive than on the Retro-bit board.

It’s a nice kit. So far I like the M30 D-pad A LOT more (than both Saturn pads).

Face buttons are the same. Ergonomics to me are better on the Saturn pads. I’m playing with things a bit more and will report back.

Interesting, as don’t see the Saturn receivers up for pre-order yet.
