"Broken" Gem Strategies and Ideas

In this thread we post extremely effective and lame gem sets and strategies. I figure I might as well take advantage of these new gems and construct the most braindead/rage-inducing gem setup, take it online, and let the hatemail flow. Even though the game has been turned into a sort of joke (at least online), that doesn’t mean we still can’t have some fun with it.

What are your current lame/gay/braindead/broken gem setups? It would be helpful if you posted in detail like this guy has, with specific characters and gameplans.

I’m going to download the update tomorrow and try to break them down.

Yup, meter gems are fucking great. One of the main reasons I think this game should still be played with gems (except the auto-this gems). Been wanting to start a gems topic, thanks for making one.

I’ve been running mostly all meter, especially when I was using Hei/Yoshi because it was so easy to activate most of the gems and get supers and cross arts all day.

Now I’m playing Yoshi/cammy, and I still do all meter on Yoshi, and depending on the opponents characters I either do one attack and two meter on Cammy, or all defense.

But that was pre-update. I’ve made a 20-sec pandora setup for each character and wanna mess around in the lab and see what I can come up with. I forget which way it works but I think you have the character you’re planning on killing off have whatever gems you want (probably defense since you want them to last as long as possible), then you have the second character with the 20 sec gem and a pandora activated gem (the attack up one).

Though it’s still pretty situational, but if you have a combo setup or have the opponent in the corner you should be able to make something happen depending on the matchup.

Of course some obvious “broken” setups are guile/gief with defense and auto-this gems. Any mixup character like Juri with all damage or meter should be pretty mean. I bet Hugo with all attack is gross too.

I don’t find damage gems useful unless you activate multiple at once. One good setup is atk 10% (land 5 normals), atk 20% (land a launcher) and atk 10% (partner lands a launcher). Asuka with all of her chains and boost combos can make use of the 20% boost from landing 8 normals on top of landing 5. This setup uses 5 normals in a magic series, tag to your partner and have him combo into launcher.

As for a common gem setup I use fortitude (get hit by 2 specials), life force (get hit by 2 specials), and either a meter gem or harmonize depending. Depends on your character. Rekka characters can land 3 specials easily, allowing to activate some gems from a single combo, so use your meter gems there.

2 players, increase cross assault time, all other gems to build meter faster. Pick 2 characters that do well together at the same time (Ryu/Zangief) and play to build that bar and cross rush as many times per round as possible.

Yeah that cross assault gem will probably get picked a lot by friends that play online.

I’ve played a Zangief and Hugo team that only had damage reduction gems…seemed pretty effective to me since I lost lol

High execution. Dhalsim with autoblock and autotech and xiaoyu with three meter gems from partner launch. Play ultra turtle and use his 3 frame short to launch into meterless sweep combo for 400+ damage and more meter to use for “blocking mixups”

Low execution version of same. Replace Dhalsim with Guile and Xiaoyu with Hugo.

I thought you couldn’t have both auto block and auto tech?

You can have both, or you can use ultimate defense… But I don’t think assist gem strats are really what this thread is looking for.

I think that gem is good solo too. Cross assault is a very powerful defensive mechanic, it’s the best way to tag out a character safely. Also, keep in mind you get infinite meter during cross assault time. You might also be able to force a lot of chip damage for ship outs.

Yeah I can’t put both.

Pandora gems FTW. Ranked match of some Jap players.

Balrog using a launcher activated meter gem and the Pandora extension gem (the person that dies activates the gem)

Nina equipped with a super activated power gem, a pandora activated power gem and a movement gem activated by pandora (I assume this is for when he activates it and either misses his combo or needs to catch a runaway character).

Keep in mind that while in this case he uses the combo as a comeback, this could just as easily have been activated at the beginning of the round to punish any whiffed or punishable moves.

Edit: What the fuck am I talking about? You gotta have a near-death character. derp.

Yes, he got lucky that the ken whiffed that uppercut he was supposed to win the round with, but that shit is irrelevant. What’s relevant? 900+ damage.

Edit: also, seriously you can’t use an autotech and auto throw gem on the same character, game doesnt allow it. you probably saw people with auto-something and easy input gems.

I have a match video.

Its called gems x clock.

Didnt realize this thread existed. Ive been working on this for a while.
I think auto throw tech isnt as good. Just dont let them get in that range. They will have a very tough time mixing in throws when you dont even have to worry about blocking.

WOW @ that pandora damage. Even though it was situational, that damage was ridiculous.

Nice! This is what I was thinking of doing. Gem loadouts that timeout are ideal, the saltier the better.
