So I recently transitioned from pad to stick and have been fooling around with the AI set to normal in training mode. 9 times out of 10 I try a PERFECTLY coordinated unblockable set-up (Wesker’s Samurai Edge+Wolverine/Zero’s overhead), the AI SOMEHOW manages to block it almost every single time.
Wtf?
I’ve also noticed some counter-supers when you’re only halfway through whatever command input you were about to put in, which is just ridiculous, and this is supposed to be “normal” ?
Unblockables only work because it is impossible for a human to input a high and low block simultaneously. A CPU merely needs to decide that they are blocking and they will block everything, as though they have a dedicated button for blocking.
Similarly, crossups are of no benefit against the CPU.
And yes, that is normal. A good AI would not use counter supers at all because they are terrible and easily countered themselves in most scenarios.
Meh, AI is so-and-so once you learn how to mount a decent offense. Even at the hardest setting, it wont react quick enough at times and is vulnerable to loops. Alot of things that realistically only work for a couple of loops can work almost infinitely against the AI.
It’s easier to make an AI that is perfect in the situations you account for than an AI that does things a player would be able to do. MvC3 AI is a master of frame data with instant reaction times, but doesn’t do much else. I’m pretty sure the difficulty is just varying random chances of it choosing not to block or counter you.
I do find it hilarious when the AI V. Joe decides to Mach Speed on reaction to my jabs and I just Aegis Counter him and the computer has no idea what to do. There’s also the awesome tactic of stand full screen and shoot arrows, since the AI doesn’t seem to understand Aim Master at all and just freezes up. Even calling the vertical Aim Master assist causes the AI to just stand there and not even bother to block if you attack with your point.
You can lol at very Hardest Ai by just picking sentinal and spaming mouth lasers with doom missles for easy win in any difficulty. That aside there isn’t really such a thing as a literal unblockable, we usually use that to refer to any high low combination with less than 6 frames difference or so since this is about the maximum human reaction.
Funny enough, stack enough meter, get someone with a counter super (Wesker or Taskmaster), and spam the counter Hyper against everyone on Very Hard, whilst mashing buttons yourself.
Nearly every damn time, computer tries to attack with a normal…you know the rest.
All gaming AI is retarded, but it’s execution is fucking inhuman. It could do the most complex combos, and it would never drop once. Unblockable set-ups are blockable because it’s fast enough to block in a really fast time. I guarantee you computers can input commands faster than the best arcade sticks know to man. The weakness to all fighting game A.I is that it’s doesn’t adapt to it’s weak spots . Unless Capcom consistently patches it’s own A.I, it will never adapt to it’s own weaknesses.
A.I was practically reading it’s inputs, and mimicking the input. All gaming A.I does that, but they can’t get out of their blind spots. There is no way that A.I could completely adapt to it’s blind spot.
