and i think you are right in that playing top players wont get you very far, you do have to sit down for hours on end and train.

i remember when me and mazdak used to play like hella alot back in the glory days.

i would come over to his place and there he would be training and trying all these werid things strange combos trying to almost break the game and get that edge, i think thats partly why he gained alot of respect and beat tao in that 20 dollar money match long ago…

the silly thing about third strike tho is that if you stop…playing u will get pretty bad fast unless ur a natural game player like tao

i think you guys should take up on navids offer its really nice of him any of us higher ranked players can teach u the ins and outs i mean we all have char specific strats like i know a shitload more then navid about my char Urien right and vice versa for his makoto i know jack shit

urien strats i can teach u a penis load of stuff i learned from rockefeller vids and reading the boards

I reiterate: I’m not trying to make a name for myself. You assume wayyyy too fucking much. Just like how you assumed I couldn’t spell “hatred”

You fucking KNOW I don’t play on US sticks. I’m not challenging you on Japsticks either because I know you don’t play on japsticks either, and it means little if I beat you on it (i.e. that time I streaked you for 10 games at rush like how you streaked me 10 games at JZees)

My memory is bad? Do you even remember that you were challenging me for games like Tekken and CVS2 and Marvel… games that I don’t play? wtf? That’s like me challenging you for games like Solitaire and Bejeweled.

You are afraid to challenge me at something where I have the slightest advantage over you, i.e. Third Strike on Japsticks. I’m in really bad shape right now anyway, playing too much CS and all, but if you challenge me on Rush sticks I won’t turn your challenge away.

And I stress this one last time: I organize this league thing for fun. I honestly don’t care if it’s shot down to hell, because I’m having fun and so are other people.

You’re partially right… it’s not like we can’t organize meets without a league… but players like Tao and Tariq probably won’t bother to come. Ask Tao. If there was no ranking in place, would he go all the way to lesters to play a bunch of relatively new players?

Playing casuals and playing for keeps are completely different. You play with a different mentality. Giddy and Hanz are improving rapidly ever since the league thing started… maybe you can tutor 1,2 or even 3,4 players, Navid, but you can’t tutor 15 of them.

I challenge you TAO style. That is: pick a player and tutor him, and I will do the same for another player at the same level. Then have them play each other and see who’s the better teacher.

Stop dissing the league already, I invited you politely, you could’ve at least returned that favor.

Hey! I wanna be a student! I’m serious. I’m not afraid to say that I keep asking pros tips, and yes I listen and practice. I’m not too proud to learn.

I learned Oro from Keni, and I feel bad sometimes when I lose badly with him (like I kinda shamed my teacher).

I learned Urien from Tariq. I’m not afraid to say I do try to copy him, and I ask him tips. However, we still play with a different style. And yes, I do feel like I can’t look him in the eye when I perform super badly with Urien.

From Tao, I don’t really learn any real tricks. haha. But that’s because I think Tao’s playing style is more on reflex, not mind games and tricks, but parry counters and quick reaction time. Kinda like samurai fighting. I don’t think I learn tricks from him, but I learned that with practice, it is possible to achieve unbelievably fast reflexes. This is my theory why Tao is good at many games. Cos of his reflexes.

I also learned alot from watching other people and asking why they do certain moves or things that I don’t understand. Like why use this combo vs this… answer: stun damage, or conserves your super -Tariq

Navid, if you really are serious about teaching new players, then I give props to you. When I was in grade 6, I wanted to learn SF2 cos it just came out (I think 1990… I’m old :slight_smile: ). I actuallly approached a classmate that nobody liked talking to (to put it bluntly, he was an uncool FOB). I heard he was good at SF (back then a guy pulling off a fireball was good. lol) I actually asked if he could teach me. Little did I know he was a strange fella. He said, “If you want to learn, you have to call me master”. I said “Fine, Master Doug”. Then he said I had to roll on the ground… I thought that was gaaay! Then he made me sign an agreement saying I’m now his student and he’s my master. But I did anyway. Surprisingly, he did take it seriously and we played like everyday. We then became good buddies, and while he stuck with Ken, I learned Guile. We then became equals and even developed the “quiet no button mashing style/minimal movements” cos we hate people destroying our 7-11 No.2 road SF cabinet.

Anyway, Navid. This is one of the few recent posts you’ve made that helps the SF3 community. I like it. And no I’m not kissing your ass just cos you said you’ll teach people. I’m just one of the new faces playing SF3 who understand that to be a student in anything, humility is the first lesson.

Anyway, I hope your beef with Keni does not reach a personal level, cos gaming is supposed to be fun.

IE: dash in with elena and then back roundhouse. unless you think i’m NOT gonna throw, you’re gonna try to tech throw and then get hit by my back roundhouse

or jumping over you and pretending to throw… what else can you do? whatever you do, i can super you! lol

oh and those massive downparries… i think i just got lucky when i picked sean… cuz all the characters you guys picked only had reliable downward attacks. so instinctively, you’ll parry down. i leave openings in my blockstrings, just so you can try to stick out a move. and i also know the openings in YOUR blockstrings, so just outta nowhere, i’ll parry down. that’s why you guys must mix up your blockstrings, or buffer a super, so when you see me parry, you super me!

Ok, I stand corrected. I do know you have mind games and you put players in situations wherein you KNOW what options they have. And you limit it to like 2 or 3 moves that they will probably do. THEN you do your reaction time and hit confirm thing.

fact: Just so you viewers know. Tao was all chilled out last night. Then he hand’s Hanz his camera phone to take a video of him dancing. So Tao does this pretty cool rave dance while the strobe light was on. And as the video rolls, you see Tao dancing, throwing his arms and then he hits a girl! It was classic!
