Curious, how much do you weigh? And how much does your gf weigh? Just wondering.
Asking a girl’s weight? Tsk, tsk.
ok what are you guys current thoughts on ibuki in 2012? overall im liking the game more cause stupid fei and twins got hit by the nerf bat meaning i see them less or they just arent as good. anywho could someone do a quick writeup on how to play against seth and viper? there are 2 players here that specialize in both characters and i need good neutral game tips on vipes (i dont know how to deal with neutral game burning kicks mixed in with jumps and mp thunder knuckles) and neutral and mixup tips on seth… thanks in advance if anyone replies to this.

My personal opinion, having a lot of experience against Seth:
Seth is typically a no-matchup. Really. The match could even basically be summed up as “first down loses”.
What you have to take care:
- Seth’s divekick. Learn to punish it (because it is kinda easily punishable, just with a well-timed b.MP), 'cause if he lands it, you’re gonna get a loooot of damage.
- Don’t go for max damage, go for untechable knockdowns. If you can inflict more stun, it’s better. Seth is easily stunned so have fun
- Seth’s 360 command grab. A LOT of players are totally unaware of his command grab. I know it’s horrible, we all tend to forget it but well… It’s horribly annoying. You have to know that Seth’s 360 grab is throwable.
- When he is putting you under pressure, don’t throw. NEVER throw. Most of Seth will go for 360 grab when they are advantaged by the blockstun, so the throw would be useless. What matters here is that you need to know when you should backdash to avoid it. However, this is basically a 50/50 situation, so if you decide to go for backdash while he didn’t go for 360 grab… You’re in trouble
- Punish his Sonic booms! If you can mind them, a normal neckbreaker goes under it!
- Don’t mash EX Tsumuji. Seth’s EX Shoryu has a LOT of invincibility frames, if he mashes it as well (and he will, if he’s used to play with you, trust me), you 'll get hit.
- Learn Seth’s basic mixups (dive-kick? crossup? Reset after air Target combo?) to counter it. When you are down, if you’re focused enough you can get out of his pressure. When he corners you and does the kick - air target combo thing, watch out to the reset. This is also 50/50 so you’d need to mind your opponent (will he 360 grab me or not?)
- BONUS STAGE: try to Raida his f.HP. It’s fun.
BUT the most important thing here is not to go down. Don’t let him take control of the match. You have to know that playing Seth requires a lot from the player so once you get the handle, you should win the match
Viper: I’m a bit less experienced, but here is what I can tell you:
- Please, this is important: stop being hit by burning kick. The easiest solution is command dash. If you do that early enough, you’ll just escape her Burning kick (you’ll be dashing during her burning kick startup). Okay, I know that it’s ugly cause you cannot punish, but at least you get out of it. And as far as I’ve seen, a lot of Viper players are a bit surprised when you are aware of how to escape their most used weapon. Otherwise you can focus it but you’d have to think about where should you dash after the focus Just watch out that command dashing will work only if you go under her, if you go through her you can get hit.
- Watch out to your Kunais if she has meter. An EX Seismo cancel will just make your kunai going through her, and she’ll punish it. I’d recommend going for a safe jump + OS Throw, cause EX Seismo is throwable (and thus OS neckbreakering can be a bit risky)
I weigh like… I dunno. I was nearly underweight before I started my Kendo seriously, and now I’m slightly heavier than my age due to the muscle mass. I have a stupidly fast metabolism so I eat like 7 meals a day.
If you’re asking this why I think you’re asking this, it’s a different girl. Anyway:
[details=Spoiler]less than you[/details] - nah, actually according to Boots’ scales, slightly below average.

The cocktail is actually amazing though, I filmed the guy who was demonstrating how to make if anyone is interested in that sort of thing. Just to be sure: Sex on a beach is the name of the drink.
I think the new juggle Ultras now make Ibuki a fixed character. It doesn’t really change her with tier-listing though, since they are hardly used. I still think that she’s about C-tier, though with the worsening of the twins she has more of a chance to win. None of her bad-matches got worse.
I think it’s slightly too early to tell, and that we should wait at least before a few majors if not until Evo to be sure. But generally I agree with the last sentence of what Izuna said: “None of her bad-matchups got worse.” That being said, none of her good matchups got any better either, so to that effect she’s probably somewhere mid tier.

thanks for answering guys.
my ibuki has become rusty with lack of play and marvel taking up most of my time plus me hating AE with a passion… though now that hong kong has gotten nerfed i feel like its time to start practicing again… managed to make top 8 at regionals for my area… only 35 people showed up, i lost to the winner of the tourny (barely, a couple of random neckbreakers in the final round when i wanted to just do a cr.lp did me in) and to a pretty good deejay (once again my execution failed me and i got hit by a wakeup ultra when i mistimed my meaty cr.lp… if its timed right deejay can only hit it with super… but i fucked up) had i not fucked up both of those matches i could have been top 3 i think as second place was a cody player… but meh… not bad for basically not really playing the game seriously in almost a year.
anywho, i’ll probably be posting in here more as i really liked what i saw from 2012 and shit doesnt seem a lost cause anymore… i even beat a yun on my way to top 8 in that tourny… gah… so much easier. fei nerfed is a godsend as well as i had NO CLUE how to fight that character… fucking bastard.
now i just need to figure out the viper and seth matchups as 2 of the best players out here main those characters and im pretty much free to them.
any more suggestions on how to play either matchup would be appreciated as they are both the guys generally keeping me from streaking / getting higher in any locals or at the arcade casuals.

Seth’s divekick is actually like a traditional dive kick. If he aims it too high, there’s a good chance that he won’t be able to combo off it, and if it’s blocked, there’s a good chance that it won’t be a true blockstring. That’s why you see many Seth’s simply going straight for spd after a dive kick, on hit or on block. That being said, like Damascus said, you should learn how to punish it, and you should be every time unless Seth’s rushdown is getting into your head or flustering you.
I would suggest going for max damage punishes (tsumuji loops) whenever you can because that extra bit of damage and stun will really add up against Seth’s low health. But if you’re not confident with your execution, then yes, the knockdown and setup is more important than the damage, especially because Ibuki’s setups are generally safer than Seth’s.
Not sure how you can “mash EX Tsumuji.”
Playing Seth for a couple games will really help you figure out this matchup. He’s not a very difficult character to learn, and it is very important you at the very least, learn what his basic combos and frame traps and setups are. Things like spacing after spd knockdown and the spacing where he can combo st.HP after 1 or 2 lights.
Last thing which was not mentioned, was the EX neckbreaker unblockable against Seth (EX neckbreaker , lk.cd , sj.LK or sj.MK option select whatever) which should help a lot in this matchup.
Also mentioned was that Seth has low stun, so after a knockdown and successful vortex, you can go for cl.st.HK mixups for insane stun which will put Seth very close to stun (probably 1 more throw reset or something) if not stun him right there.
Against C.Viper, just mash cr.MK whenever you see a burn kick. Even if it crosses up, your cr.MK will turn into a slide and probably meaty into her. Meaty f+HK is a decent option against her, since it covers every escape option besides dp (HP TKnuckle), and maybe ultra (not sure about this). Contrary to what Damascus said, EX Seismo generally doesn’t get her out of kunai vortex unless your kunai was very deep (at her ankles). Timing your kunai slightly later, or just simply going for a jumpin will stop this no problem. Lastly, C.Viper is susceptible to Ibuki’s two unblockable setups after Neckbreaker and EX neckbreaker (EX neckbreaker , MK cd , j.LK or j.MK option select whatever), which should help you in this matchup.
Oh yeah and safe jumps are kind of tricky in this matchup since C.Viper can HP TK feint which is invincible and then punish your option select throw, or at least be able to tech it… This is why you see some players time their safe jumps slightly later so that it still acts as a safe jump (HP TK is 7f startup) but it will also punish HP TK feints.
Spam st.LP, cr.MP xx tsumuji, and neutral jumps. When you get a knockdown, again, abuse le unblockables, unless he has U2 stocked. EX chicken wing can get him out of kunai vortex I think, but it might be possible to reaction neckbreaker (if you’re already used to reaction neckbreakering AE Yun’s dp), or just simply bait it out with ambiguous jump + option select.
Fei’s damage output and rekka’s got nerfed, but a good Fei will still know how to abuse his jab rekka to full potential.
I just got trolled.
+5 internets to you sir.
The lack of beaches in London should have been a dead give-away.
- Played more against the London scene today. GGs with F-Word, RMZ etc. Some interesting points though… F-Word says Ibuki vs. Seth is 6-4 Seth, and Zangief worse than Dictator (it seemed like it to me).
Everyone is able to block the launcher mix-up now consistently, but I’ve been having success with dash up st.Roundhouse which beats people thinking I’m going to throw, it beats focus attack, and on a some characters it option-selected as an anti-air. Still, the mix-up after it, for some reason, doesn’t hit any of the good players. They’ll block it left or right and they aren’t guessing.
Does this also apply to command dash st.RH? Any difference between doing it after a lk, mk, or hk version of kasumi gake? I’ve tried doing it online, but I always get stuffed by crouch techs, although it’s more likely that I’m mis-timing it. I should probably get into the habit of double tapping or plinking the st.RH launcher.
its because you arent confusing them anymore. i bet if you start making use of kazegiri fadc st.hk xx command dash, cr.fp xx command dash they wont block it with as much consistency. ibuki is either about confusion or solid play. her mixups only really work when someone is confused. which is why shes only midtier… her vortex at regualr level is easy to deal with but at an advanced level its the hardest in the game to execute… motempest by far has the best vortex ibuki ive ever seen…better than sako or ackua or … anyone ive seen… but still when he gets predictble or when people have seen the mixups alot… it stops being so effective… it isnt because of ibuki… its because hes becoming predictable. BUT, maintaining an unpredictable ibuki mixup game is something that i literally think is one of the hardest thing in fighting games to do. i certainly cant do it and motempests vortex makes mine look like a joke. im more about solid play and using my kunais wakeups as safejumps into tick throws/frametraps… basically very simple play style.
ALSO… as far as that mixup not working against better players… have you tried just throwing them after the juggle cr.FP? have you tried to go for the crossup j.LK instead of just dash mxups? probably even if you have tried them once or twice… if you are predictable about using any sort of mixup it reduces said mixups power by like… ALOT, even if it is a 50/50.
in case your wondering heres how it goes. that mixup IS seeable, so, you want them confused about whether or not you will command dash or jump. you HAVE to mixin regualr jump, crossup jump, crossup command dash, regular command dash. basically ibuki should be mixing up all of her enders in her combos… using an ender to much lets your opponent scout your mixups. even if you dont use the ender much. the key is to just use as many as possible and try and be random about it.
off the top of my head ibuki has a bunch of enders:
neckbreaker
ex neckbreaker
cr.HK
mk tsumuji
hk tsumuji
ex and regular raida
tc 10
kazegiri fadc cr.fp (whose post setups completely change depending on bnb used to initiate cause distancing takes place)
after any of those hit you have a bunch of mixup options
superjump lk crossup
unblockable j.lk
regular super jump kunai
crossup super jump kunai
dash crossup kunai
dash non crossup kunai
command dash crossup throw
command dash crossup frametrap
non crossup command dash frametrap
i know you know all this but i think its imperative to repeat it at times as even i forget these things and i have the MOST PREDICTABLE vortex out there. however having played against other ibuki vortexs that arent as predictable as well as when im playing frisky and mixing up my shit… she gets blocked ALOT LESS.
unfortunatley doing this is ridiculously hard.
anywho thats just my advice… as it has been for a long time:
if they are blocking your stuff, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! i still use some of my oldschool command dash mixups and they still work occasionally, but, the real kicker is that they are just something different to use so that i can set up better stuff down the line.
@ mingo:
THANKS a ton dude! that definitely mentioned a bunch of stuff i hadnt thought of and will be putting in my game, really… its opened my eyes a bit about how i should play the matchups

- When I spoke about mashing EX Tsumuji, I was referring to a classic 50/50 situation (say after his air target combo when you are cornered), or to punish a gap in his fake blockstrings. I used to do that, but I stopped as soon as RekkaTEC started punishing ALL my EX Tsumujis with his EX DP which is amazingly invincible., to show me that I shouldn’t do that
2 & 3) Time your kunai later, Viper will time her EX Seismo later. Assuming that you are playing against a good viper, of course. I usually avoid throwing kunais against Viper, it is too risky imho. Unblockable, ambiguous crossups + command dash mixups are… “enough”. Although I always feel a bit lost in my game whenever I can’t kunai (ie. fuck Gouken)
- EX tsumuji has no invincibility. It’s a terrible idea when you’re getting pressured.
2/3. Then don’t throw a kunai at all. If CViper is able to time her EX seismo to match your varying kunai timing, then your vortex is incredibly predictable.
Yes I know I can go into the overhead, cr.Short or throw/frame-trap. But I just wanted to say that people can react easily to what side Ibuki is on.
What if you do SJC FA?
I just realized I was speaking about EX Kazegiri. I don’t know why I said EX Tsumuji -______-
I need lots of help against Blanka! He is a pain!
