man this kind of thing… is really fucking rude
I picked up Abel a week or two ago so be gentle judging my perceptions of the new Abel.
His sweep seems faster as many have stated and I love using it against gief then roll canceling it after (pretty reckless if you don’t land it because that = free command grab :p)
Falling sky = slight buff and the trades are better than just being flat out stuffed
Ultra 2 is ridiculous. I’d agree that for fireball characters Ultra 1 is more suitable but for right now milk the shit out of Ultra 2 because most people don’t know how to deal with it haha It’s not a free win but if you can read your opponent/have good reaction speed it can really put a hurtin’ on some people.
It’s funny because depending on what Ultra Zangief picks Abel has to play 2 different types of games. Either just ground game or ground + air.
Uh yeah, I wouldn’t risk it on a guess.
*nod I was doing it because the gief wasn’t blocking low. Probably gonna lay off that a bit for next time
Did some testing vs. Ibuki today. Fucking Raida man, shit eats up all TT’s, Ex included. At least it’s blockable. Shit’s looking pretty good, eats up horizontal balls, headbutts, flame kicks, etc. good thing it’s only 110 dmg.
Ok, the question is, is that move safe on block or can abel punish that on block?
Fuck, I totally neglected to test punishes on block. Just had the EX TT vs. raida in mind plus I was playing around with Makoto. I’ll try to get my friend to test it unless someone here does it first.
i tested that ultra out, breathless and that ultra is VERY GOOD on Jump ins… very GOOD… my boi SykoJerry, Abel player out here in SoCal tested it out… and it seems that you can punish that ultra with a Counter-hits and Armor-Breaking Moves…(i.e Galactic Tornado with Rufus) and jumping over him when he is that Ultra State…(During the Animation of Holding all 3 kicks Down…)
His Ultra 2 is very good, Damage wise… and very FAST! Though its too early to tell if it will be really good on high level play, BUT its a really good mind game… And you can cancel the Ultra by pressing the Punch buttons While holding all 3 kicks…
i wasnt talking about ultra 2…
OK, got to play some Superrrr. For the most part, Abel feels the same and a lot of the stuff I’m about to say has already been said.
U2 doesn’t feel right. I feel, because people don’t know how to play and properly adjust to U2, they fall for it. It’s a decent ultra, but I don’t see it being as useful unless you face someone with a lack of armor breaking moves… aka Gief. I feel guilty when I actually land it. One cool thing that happened was that I was playing against my Akuma friend and when I pulled out U2 to absorb one of his pokes, he canceled it into demon, but U2 beat his demon grab. It was just a cool sequence of events. lol. Also, normal grabs whiff.
EX falling sky has definitely changed. I wouldn’t call it a reliable AA, but it’s a nice thing to have in your backpocket. In times where I would normally just block, roll, neutral jump, or backdash an incoming jump attack, I used EX FS and it worked nicely.
Sweep doesn’t really seem faster, just a tad more range, which is what I was hoping for. I felt like my sweep was connecting more often than in vanilla.
I couldn’t find anything in regards to the improved s.jab. it looked like his normals in general got stronger though. As well as falling sky (definitely noticeable).
I tried that CoD FADC U1 in the corner thing. It is weird that it doesn’t work, but, whatever. I rarely use it in match anyways so I don’t mind too much.
Matchup wise, I only got to play against Adon, Juri, Akuma, Chun, Ken, Sagat, and Viper. Aside from Adon and Juri, the matchups are pretty much the same. With Ken, his overhead is faster… which is annoying. I don’t mind his U2. Yeah, you’ll get hit by it but the damage isn’t that great. Sagat matchup, it feels like you can take more risk cause he can’t deal as much damage. lol Viper, pretty much the same (apparaently her U2 is crap so my friend didn’t use it against me). Chun, I played one match against Shizza, pretty much the same stuff. I was kinda playing around with Abel still, but I can see it being the same frustrating crap. Sweep seems like a more useful normal in the matchup though. Chun’s U2… fk dat sheeet. I’m not sure which ultra would be preferable in the Chun matchup though. Akuma matchup, we didn’t really play like we normally do but I can see it being the same frustrations. Akuma’s demon flip grab has a little delay/landing frames so it looks like Akuma may not be able to option select srk/demon flip grab anymore… which is good. Also less loop from Akuma = happy Abel.
Adon is in Abel’s favor. Just very hard for Adon to go head-to-head with Abel damagewise. He does have a very good normal (standing rh?) that’s similar to Vega’s. It does two hits so you can’t FADC. The wall dives are annoying but very vulnerable to a lot of things. It just seems Adon has to take a lot of risks to keep up with Abel.
Juri… iunnp yet. I don’t think I can say that I’ve reached a verdict, but so far it feels 5-5. One of my friends said that Juri is a poking character, like Chun, but… well I guess there’s still a lot to learn about her and the rest of the new cast.
… then I played around with everyone else (mostly Dee Jay and THawk). Those two characters actually seem like they could be troublesome for Abel. Overall, I kinda feel disappointed with Super as a whole. Maybe cause I just need a copy for myself so I can tinker around. Maybe cause I display almost no interest in playing the 3s characters. Just feels same ol’ same ol’. =p
You can also CoD cancel into Breathless. Absorbs 2 hits.
Are there any Videos of Abel canceling Breathless?
is the cancel instant? or is there some sort of recovery?
I’m pretty sure it looks the same as any other EX CoD armor cancel… just replace it with U2.
I think he meant just cancelling the ultra. Like if you hold the kicks and then press punch it just cancels the whole ultra. Does this have recovery, or can you insta block after hitting the punch button?
oh i thought he was addressing Kreymore’s post. I didn’t try canceling it cause I didn’t know how. I did hold it for the whole duration… which felt like a good 3-4 seconds. =d yeah, that won’t help in finding out the recovery frames for his canceled ultra. =p
U2 isn’t that bad actually. After playing with it for a while, I can see how it could be applied to some match-ups.
I was playing with a couple of friends, and I had them buffer jumps to see if it was fast enough to catch landing lag. It IS. If you see someone jumping up/forwards/backwards and you aren’t close enough that they’d go over you, its game over. Because you catch them in landing lag, even frame 1 ultras (i.e. Zangief’s) don’t have the time to come out. You can all try it yourself. A jump + perfectly timed srk type move or ultra won’t come out if you time Abel’s U2 right.
Which means its REALLY good for anti-air. You take an air hit to build up your meter for a bit more damage then just let go for uninterrupted goodness.
I can also see U2 being really good vs. Zangief in general. If we can punish green-hand on block with even non-reversal TTs (which are all 5 frame start-up), and Ultra 2 is fast enough to catch opponent’s after landing lag…then we can only assume you can punish green-hand on block with U2 as well. Same thing goes with when you block his lariat point blank. I can see it getting consistent use in many of Abel’s disadvantageous match-ups.
Other things I’ve experienced:
-you can punish T-hawk’s hawk dive with U2 on block
-you can U2 through many of Balrog’s punches. (minus TAP and the up-angled armor break)
-Vega’s wall dive/U1 are punishable with U2 reversal on block
So from the sounds of it U2 grabs the landing frames of a jump. So is it possible to use it the same way Fuertes use there U1? Simply by baiting the jump and punishing?
random question did any1 else noticed while playing Super noticed that wheel kick not as good as it was in vanilla sf4
wheel kick sucks even more now? haha
Capcom ‘‘lets nerf an already unsafe move!’’ XD
