Breathless... SUPER Abel Match Theory Thread

Just had a Gief do a perfectly timed backdash to avoid Breathless. :[

That match still rapes my ass till it’s raw.

Edit - Anyone have any thoughts on the Guy match-up?

guy match up…roll away from everything lol

depends on the jump in,ken jumps in on abel for free from certain ranges.

I’m losing to Chun so free right now. Every tournament I’ve entered so far, I’ve lost to at least one Chun. In my SSF4 tournament life so far, I’m like 2-5 against Chun, and I’ve lose 3 straight to the same guy. This shit is killing me.

Oh well. I’ll figure it out.

You need to build up your hater meter against Chun as a deterrence.

I know what you mean. Entirely.

i think chun’s one of the easier matchups for abel

/lies

smacks you for your blasphemy

While I’m no expert on the Chun match up, I remember a post from Strider a little while back about dealing with Chun - here’s a link for those interested.

I’ll wait for a serious response.

I find it hard to believe that at that magical distance, Ken can beat everything Abel does, especially cr. fierce. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I know what he’s talking about as I played Ken for a while. You literally just get kicked if you try anything. It’s weird.

Just played a Cody online and twice breathless went under his EX rock throw. Sorry if this isn’t new. I haven’t gone and tested it yet but I assume it works if you use it early enough and don’t wait because of the arc of the rocks. So semi useful info.

-The true color number 9 Abel, until John Rambo Abel comes out that is.

So when is this going to be updated? can there at least be some personal insight right now, like I dont get what were waiting for at all. If this helps at all I have some insight.

Guy: Air throw cannot grab you if your standing, he can only elbow drop and if he does hit you with command jump elbow drop its even frames. Guy CAN grab your roll with air throw as hes coming down, I had the misfortune of that being done to me at a tournament today. His throw hurts so much 200 damage on all versions of the throw.

Cody: I havent really fought much cody’s but so far what ive noticed is that cody is VERY hard to tick throw if hes mashing throw like I can never get jab TT on his block is hes mashing jab I can only grab of course if I do ex TT.

Makoto: I think this match up is highly in abels favor especially when u have breathless. She can still apply good pressure but her command throw is horrible unless she kara cancels which is REALLY hard to do. She cant handle jump ins on her knock down to well. Overall I think this matchup is free.

Ibuki: This match up is kinda like the akuma matchup. She can apply alot of pressure. Kunai throw isnt too good and shes pretty laggy when she lands. Her command throw can be blocked. When she knocks you down with moves like the neck breaker thats the only time she can do her vortex (basically she can only really get into her vortex after she does an un techable knockdown) and even when she does try to get the knockdown, you can just roll or ex roll outta there. Her ex kick is a pretty decent wake up but its not too good since it just goes straight up and I dont believe that the normal version has invincibility, so yeah I think this is another character that abel can cross up freely.

Juri: oh man, NEVER focus attack EVER because her air command kick breaks armor and her lands pinwheel does alot of hit. Shes safe on her light pin wheel kick. Aside from that I dont have to much matchup experience. Shes is pretty safe this is something that you really should look at frame data for.

Ive been studying frame data on all the characters if you guys want to check it out here the link to the new frame data by Gilly.

I hope this can help as a base/ foundation w.e come on guys lets not slack on this we should have had something here at least a few weeks ago I.M.O.

I disagree with this completely. I think everyone’s rush to come to definitive determinations about match-ups and placements is dumb. There still hasn’t been a single important SSF4 tournament yet. It’s way too early to start calling shit like we know what we’re talking about IMO. This time should still be being using to experiment, and people should be trying to draw as few conclusions as possible.

EDIT- and  at “we should have had something here at least a few weeks ago”, when the game’s been out 3 and half weeks.

the only real info we can give is what we already know from past match ups cuz they are the same for the most part. the new characters we dont know shit about, the game is still new. would you rather everyone rush and get info out now that will not even help in the future? shit takes time, i would rather wait for characters/players to develop and get good info out later, info that will be useful. right now people are still exploring shit, trying new things and all that good stuff.

No one is stopping anyone from posting any “insights” or “opinions”, no matter how good/bad they might be… as for updates, if you read the thread its already stated by the OP the reason why its not updated yet and the reason is good enough for me. The posts in the first page are gonna be updated with mostly(if not all) relevant/good stuff only, not anything that anyone posted here, that alone requires some time to be filtered, but yeah theres also that other reason, its not even a month yet since release, why the rush? Old threads still can be used to an extent if you need info on old chars.

edit: ah shit took too long to type this hav n busta already posted

Juri: her light pink wheel is a pain in the ass. the best thing with avarage to bad juris is to bait diving kicks, if she does just one of her combo kick its party time

/ignores the whole thread

come on guys, lets not slack on this!!!

edit: anyway i was takin a break just now from work and i wondered about ways to deal with ken’s ambiguous jump-ins… by ambiguous i mean, at that distance where he can land infront with j.mk/hk/hp etc or cross you up with a delayed ex tatsu, the kinds of jump-ins that cr.mk/hp cant deal with… then i recalled how i dealt with a sakura yesterday using a late jumpback hk and i wonder if that can work to deal with ken’s, its still not bad if i still get hit by the ex tatsu but sent flying instead of getting combod… gonna try and test this later when im back home, just wonderin if anyone already tried it before.

My friend told me that for Ken’s ambiguous j.fierce, timing his jump-in so it hits when you’re doing the chinese get-up makes j.fierce cross up (because in the animation of the chinese get-up, you actually turn around for a slight time).

Crossup tatsus will always be difficult to read. I think the rest of his crossups are relatively easier to read. Thing you have to worry more about is if he empty jumps and you’re trying to block high, or decides to just safe jump you.

This doesn’t just apply to Ken either. Same with Ryu and Akuma.

well, I see people think im like retarded or something, I just dont see why there hasnt been at least something up already. I’ve learned alot of stuff already, there should be at least a general idea about matchups. I dont get why everytime I post up in the abel boards its like people act really dumb…like seriously? Im posting something to help everyone out, but apparently since im not known people always say some dumb shit and when its someone known they get mad head because theyre known like thats a hilarious. Now I see why alot of people just keep shit to themselves, because people always have some dumb crap to say.
