Having so much fun with Dudley but damn Abel is so gutlike in this version, having so much fun with breathless and like HAV I ain’t been using FS much either lol, now I go into games with the intentions of using FS as much as I can
I’ve used FS as an AA in matches a few times. It’s decent if I don’t think my other AA normals aren’t going to work. Getting used to “dp’ing” with Abel is weird.
Yeah, same, I’m too used to resorting to Abel’s other options. Other than dive kicks and stuff, on characters with fairly lofty jumps cr. fierce dash falling sky is still the best thing going, or if their attack beats that c. mk. The sad truth is though that most people are going to be looking to cross abel up instead of blatant jump ins, so it’s really not all that big a deal anyway. Just a change for the scarce 12 year old pad warrior to use against his jump-happy shoto friends that go to his house after school to play.
Is it me or is his CHP better? I can AA honda’s jumps now… something changed.
Doesnt hit low, its a grab.
Same.
I did use ex FS like a shoryu a few times, sure it worked but it felt hella awkward, im more comfortable AA-ing people with normals… though i guess ex FS only work against obvious, reckless jumpins…
only time i used falling sky so far as an anti-air it did the same double knockback crap… Is there a certain area of the air where its suppose to be command grabbing? Like starting it earlier or later than you would in a combo?? Does anyone have any real evidence other than someone like seth saying it has better properties?
and @ raging storm…
well technically he was half right. Its a low grab. So if they have an armor break move that hits high it won’t affect anything. Breathless is amazing once you corner someone. I’ve actually found myself backing up after cornering them with a knockdown to start up the ultra and if I don’t like the situation I just cancel it (which is almost never because ppl don’t know yet what to do against it…). Actually the only time i’ve seen anyone so far get out of it online without it being because I started it from WAAAY too far away to catch their jump… was when I got out of another abel’s by jumping EX tatsu with akuma. And the damage always feels like its a lot more than I was expecting when it hits…lol.
The new Falling Sky is good anti-air, but only if timed right.
See for yourself. Set up training mode, and record a dummy to do a whole bunch of jumping normals. Time the normal to hit you on your forehead, like balrogs do with their nj.HP (on that note, both Breathless and EX FS are great for dealing with neutral jumpers).
As they descend, activate MP, HP, or EX FS. If the opponent is touching your OUTSTRETCHED HAND AND YOUR HAND ONLY it will grab them 100% of the time (with 3 exceptions)
- the air normal has a hitbox big enough to get to your head (EX FS negates this, as well as good spacing)
- the air normal’s hitbox is so vertical that it goes into your body (ES FS will probably trade, and again SPACING)
- the air normal changes the orientation of the attacker’s body such that their hittable box is behind the normal’s hitbox (Bison’s j.HP, for example)
I know that sound like a long list, but this is the same sort of thing we had to do for cr.MK last year; figuring out what it works against and what it won’t work against.
So his arm is pretty much invincible lol
I think I understand why people think wheel kick is nerfed. The hitbox looks like it changed. It’s a little bit lower than it was in vanilla.
Oh and you should give your dog a name before you buy him a collar.
so is it well agreed that U2 isnt the best choice against cammy? because of ex spiral arrow that is.
honestly i’m getting hella AA wheelkicks I wouldn’t in Vanilla. It’s interesting for sure.
Sweep, BTW, helped me in the match-up against T. Hawk. If it really is improved speed, then max-range, Hawk can’t do much, as far as I’ve seen.
And I feel like cr.fierce has been nerfed. Less priority, honestly, and I won’t be getting that proper launch off an anti-air.
So I guess, I’ll need to tap into shoto mentality to play Abel for a bit.
U2 will have it’s matches but the more I play the less I use it.
Honda shuts down 2 of his moves so I would use U2 for him
Geif U2 for sure as well as hawk (for right now)
other than that I haven’t found a comfortable U2 situation.
We’ll find out as it goes on. (blanka is still U1 for sure, more damage for the same option haha)
I think the timing on it’s different. I always used to get first hit. Now I always get second hit, and if it trades i just roll into falling sky anyway.
Wonder what happens if she EX Hooligans. Since she can’t grab you, does she end up in front or in the back?
I Just played against my friend who uses Gouken, and i think what i said was right.
Gouken can’t demon flip you when you have breathless unless it is a cross up.
Abel can shut Gouken’s fireballs with the roll or ex wheel kick, can stop his demon flip options with breathless. This is all of Gouken’s command list, this match up is a lot easier than it was.
I won’t say that i’m 100% sure. I’ll keep updating about some match ups in the future
IMO, U2 is the clear choice when fighting Cammy.
You can’t let the fact that a character has a move that can break armor deter you from using the move. It just means that you have to use it differently.
Breathless takes away so many of Cammy’s options. Cammy is tough to fight because once she establishes point blank range, and makes you block something, you’re in the grinder. Mean ticks, fake throw attempts into dive kicks, etc. She gets a knockdown, and you have no real answer to anything. Just try your best to block, and not get thrown, but teching throws is risky as fuck between Strike set-ups, and Spike FADC.
Breathless basically makes Cammy stop pressuring you. All of what Cammy has that’s troubling to Abel… loses to Breathless free. All those cute little set-ups lose. It keeps Cammy honest. She is simply not allowed to be Cammy. Soulless doesn’t do that.
So yeah, you can’t throw it out just to throw it out offensively (but honestly there are a lot of characters on whom you can’t do that… doesn’t mean it’s not the Ultra of choice necessarily), but it is your defensive trump card.
hey thanks for the response hav, i see your point, i kinda realized the big flaw in my post but i didnt bother to edit my post
