well akuma can get out of the ultra 2 if its randomly thrown out REALLY easily either by teleporting, tiger tatsu, or even just simply jumping and using EX tatsu (not sure about the last one… if you hold breathless it might be able to still hit but regardless makes it really risky since you’ll be timing it most of the time as if he didn’t use the EX)… which means the only use it could have against akuma would be to go through fireballs or to punish/counterhit. The whole EX fb and red fb beating breathless means akuma could still somewhat try and zone you while soulless completely shuts down fb-ing. Though maybe breathless has more range? And better at jump-fb punishing? Things is a good akuma v abel is not going to be a fb war… its going to be a close range battle. You can greatly hinder akuma’s vortex once you have breathless because he has to worry about getting ultra-ed when he demon flips or safe-jumps. I don’t know the deal with demon palm vs breathless though… it might armor break the ultra…lol… I ASSUME it doesn’t in which case akuma doing anything on wake-up other than chipping with his pussified red fb is going to lead to getting hit with ultra or at the very least making him lose his wake-up chance. That fear is something an akuma player can’t risk most of the time (might have changed in super some though) and so having breathless, even if you don’t end up using it, is an effect deterent to getting man-handled on wake-up. And breathless probably works well against akuma’s (also pussified) s.hk (though I don’t know if cancling into demon beats breathless like it could soulless).
Also… akuma’s ultra 2… doesn’t hit crouchers. So breathless doesn’t have to worry about akuma’s ultra 2 when punishing teleports.
I had trouble using it against Akuma’s demon flip. Maybe I just held on too long and should’ve released earlier, but I’d get DP’d (absorb one hit of the DP and escape).
And yeah, it doesn’t look like you can normal throw Abel out of U2. I also seen some whiffed throws. If that’s true, command grabs should whiff too.
That’s interesting if that turns out definitive. I would’ve guessed 1+6 or 1+7.
can somebody explain how his ultra 2 works after a jump for me. I got my hands on super a little tonight and I don’t completely get it.
Take Ryu with ultra 2 for example.
Ryu does a neutral jump and does nothing. Abel activates ultra 2 and try’s to grab Ryu. What are Ryu’s options besides ex tatsu. Can he ex dragon punch or ultra 2 as he lands?
I’m of the opinion that it’s still way too early to break down any of the matches.
Juri feels hard right now… but I don’t even know all her moves yet… so… my opinion really means nothing.
I’m still raping Guiles all the same… but again… it’s too early. It seems like Guile got some subtle changes, and it will take a little while before Guile players start putting it all together.
I’m handling Cody pretty well so far… but again… this is Day One Cody we’re talking about. Maybe Juice can chime in on that one, since Sabr3’s had the game for like 10 months now, I’m sure his Cody is a little more refined than the ones I’m facing.
I’m not juice but… Cody can put some mad normal pressure on Abel… his f+mp is like a miniature solar plexus strike. To really keep inside he has to be within that range, which is on the small side if you are blocking standing up. Anything too far and he doesn’t have much left except a normal like c.lk or c.mp canceled into jab criminal. He can’t hit confirm from lows but he doesn’t need to in this one… Abel can’t really punish after blocking jab criminal, but you can reversal EX TT in between the c.lk/c.mp. His crouching short’s hitbox doesn’t reach all the way to his foot, unfortunately, which is good for Abel because that move would otherwise be too much in this matchup :lol: even still you have to watch the c.lk xx criminal.
Cody’s reversals are crap… his only invincible one, as far as I can tell, is EX Zonk and it is slow and unsafe so he can’t be liberal with it. His backdash is also not great so you can rush him down like crazy.
He has a sick normal anti-air b+mp which has a special property of knocking you a long ways away. He does a lot of combo damage especially when he gets creative with f+mp and can do the good links… if you ever give up a punish on this guy, he can make it hurt. At least not being able to combo from c.lk makes him a little easier to defend against. His overhead is average speed and does hefty damage so you have to give it a bit of respect.
Rocks are kinda tricky… mid screen he can almost always combo EX Ruffian off a rock, and that combo does a lot of stun and damage. Rocks are long on startup, short on recovery and chargeable… so he can bait a roll and punish it, or mess up your jump timing like that. He can fake rocks too… which will be interesting
Overall though a big part of his gameplan revolves around normal pressure and tick throws. If you stay relaxed, you can easily hold the fort.
i dont have the game and i wont be getting it since i would have to buy the game and a new stick cuz my down direction doesnt even work anymore (too much money for me lol…). waiting to bum off friends and hit up their pads to play. hah
you can focus regular rocks, but he can easily punish you for it within 3/4 screen with ruffian. Rocks is an odd move… they have a long startup time, but half as much recovery as sonic boom. Rolling through them is risky too because he can punish that with a few different moves…
It’s funny, cause when I was playing Shizza he said Combofiend thinks the matchup was 5-5 in vanilla. For the most part, the matchup feels the same. I was fumbling around to see what changed with Abel when I was playing his Chun, but you’ll see the same stuff + the likeliness of eating her U2. When I watched Shizza play against other characters, Chun’s little backflip move (df+lk?) was stuffing a lot of things as an AA and it combos into U2.
-Juri’s Dive Kick broke my Breathless :(, im not ready to say she too hard for Abel yet but there are signs. But Dive Kicks are’nt safe, only LK spinning kick is safe…she got some holes
Chun is still a whore, Breathless makes her wake-up worst thought :D, she EX SBK, i blocked and quickly U2’ed and bam!, round 2, she jumped back with instant over head, hit me but bam!..U2, than she jumped straight up so i chased her up there dash under reset. But getting in is still hard.
Maybe this has been mentioned before, in the mid screen, cr HP -> fall sky no longer work. Only in the corner…
In the mid screen, u need to cr HP -> light roll -> Fall Sky
In the end though, they have to fuck up for you to land it. Do something laggy, something telegraphed, or whatever.
It doesn’t grab instantly, so it can’t really be used in resets since the opponent will be able to jump/teleport/armor break move out of it if they weren’t doing anything.
Characters that can alter their jump arcs (Adon, Shotos, Cammy/Juri/Rufus) can add a third layer of mindgame to really put it out of abel’s favor.
We’ll see how it ends up. But it’s going to catch a lot of scrubs at first.
But yeah, it requires a fuck-up from your opponent, but Breathless changes the definition of fucking up. The Cammy match for example… honestly anything Cammy does to pressure Abel once he has U2 stocked is “fucking up”.
