Breaking into comics question

yo does anyone know if its the same process for a colorist as it is for a artist when submitting at cons. like u got a portfolio of colored stuff you did and u show them to people? i’m getting the hang of coloring on photoshop soo im might try to show some stuff to some artists but just wanted to make sure its the same process.

More or less it’s the same process.
What you want to do is work from professional (or at least not your own) lines (inks/pencils) so that you can show your skills without the line art holding you back.

I know for some friends of mine they all got together and collaborated with their samples. (one did pencils, the other inked and then the last one colored)

Make sure you bring print outs of the black and whites to show side-by-side so they can see what you did. Either on the next page or if you want to do prints with both on the same sheet.

Very important to show sequential pages and not just covers/pin ups too.

Check out some submission guidelines at various companies to get a good idea of what they’re looking for.

Is the basic gist of it.

You have a link to your work? :wonder:

I’ve had a couple of people who approached me looking to collab comics but they also wanted me to do the inking, coloring and word bubbles. So yeah, it’d be safe to carry a variety of your work.

yeah what u said is basically how i thought it worked. more or less common sense in comic form.

i dont got any links just yet since i literally am doing 3-4 pieces all at once. well i got this one i did of rey’s art. its simplistic cuz i wanted to keep it in a black, white and greytone feel. i’m probably gonna tweak the weapons and folds since i was getting feedback it felt unfinished even though alot of reys art is flats and not alot of shades to the art itself hence i left it that way to make it feel like how he makes it.
