Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad was never about showing a moral highground, just simply telling a interesting story of an ordinary man’s off-the-path journey towards self-destruction. The only foundational theme the show has had is that even most minor decisions have far reaching consequences, for better or worse. (and in the case of Walter White, mostly worse.)

Where’s Skyler’s head at? What would you do if you were her? I’m a little surprised she’s been backing Walt these past couple of episodes. In the back of her head, she has to be thinking about what happens if Walt drops dead.

Yeah, he is still the “Hero” he’s just not a shining white knight. Beating the shit out of Jesse was justifiable, in sense that Hank was right and that Jesse did use that call to get out of a sticky situation. It was not the right thing to do, however, and his heroicness is in how he handled the situation. Any other character would be out to protect their own ass, Hank instead owns up and refuses to lie (Even when told it would be his word vs a methheads word). And that is what makes him stand out, and what makes him the hero of the story

You sound like one of those Jesus-ass-kissing housewives who wanted alcohol banned because of some moral bromide. Drugs are dangerous, sure, but so is drinking and smoking and they’re legal. Let whoever do drugs. It’s their life to do what they want. The day you come for my whiskey is the day I’ll make sure to pick up some lye and a shovel and pay you a visit in the night.

This isn’t about empathy, but respect for what he has done.

And you cannot take that respect away, he has earned that respect.

He had a family, who forced him to force his family into bankruptcy and he did what he needed to do as an individual to ensure his family would be well off after he died.

Everything he has done is to ensure his family would be well off after his death, and you cannot take that from him, and you have to respect that. Dude has earned it at this point, he finished when he said he would have finished, and is only going to be forced back in because of Jesse’s stupidity, and Lydia’s greed.

Funny you are quick to call him a “villain” when in fact, he was forced to become a villain after an act benevolence by saving Jesse.

Thats real fucking cute of you SRK

What makes Walt a villain is that he repeatedly (and delibrately) turned down every opportunity to step back into the light. It was about his family at first, but then he became corrupted with the power his position gave him, and started to enjoy and down right not give a shit the pain he’s inflicted upon others. At a certain point, he even used his family to justify his heinous crimes, when he was basically lying to himself, when in fact he relished his new role as a meth dealer

I believe he truly does still care about his family, and most of us here respect how the dude took back control of his life and no longer was a victim, but he’s still a villain at the end of the day. His determination is admirable, and his love for his family is respectable, every thing else about him is despicable tho

Walt is most definitely a villain. He can no longer justify his actions, especially when other people were killed or almost killed. Retiring from the business does not absolve him of his crimes.

Nothing wrong with protecting your family, but he dragged innocent people down with him. He got into this mess because of his pride.

So, just finished season 4. And uh…that little thing with Hector and Gustavo…

Spoiler

Is that even remotely possible that a man with half of his shit blown off like that can walk that far and fix his tie before dropping over?

Whether that’s remotely realistic or not, it cemented Gus as the most bad ass character on the whole show.

Nah he was the villain long before the end of season 3. Though it’s hard to pinpoint a specific moment, I think he’s always been the villain. And it was never about the family, that was just how he rationalized it to himself. It was always about satisfying that ego

His ego didn’t come into play until later in the show. In the beginning, he was clearly all about leaving his family money in case he died since he didn’t make shit as a teacher.

Actually, i think you guys are forgetting the most important fact that has driven this season.

Walt QUIT the Meth business and successfully re-established relationships with his family. He realized what the meth business was doing to him and his family.

This season isn’t about Walt being the villain anymore to me, it’s about self-preservation.

I think Walt’s ego became a driving force as early as season 2.

It’s definitely not the driving force but it was significant at that point.

Walt’s ego came into play very early. Remember when he turned down his friend’s offer to pay for treatment?

Of course his ego is large and played a part UP this point.

Basically it was his ego that led to his position now; but it’s not his ego that makes him do all the shit he’s doing now. He’s only doing all of this shit to stay alive/evade Hank/evade Czech.

I disagree. It’s about dealing with ‘all the shit you caused that you thought you could get away with.’ I guess that’s self-preservation in a sense, but there’s so much denial boiling inside of Walt right now, that I don’t seriously believe he even feels threatened yet.

Remember the beginning of season 5, when Saul said “I’m done man.”

And Walt stared him down, and stated “We’re done when I say we’re done.”

Yeah, well, what goes around comes around. You can’t just walk away from this and expect your family to ever be safe. He knew that, his ego just didn’t let him deal with it. Dude had 2 guys sitting on his bed waiting to kill him that he never knew about.

yeah

those wherent’ friends

he didn’t even spoke to them on the regular

They were his former partners and college roommate. First, Walt cut ties with them when he scrambled to pay for his own treatment. Also, he said himself that he’s guilty that he left the company before it became successful and ended up being a school teacher instead of a millionaire so he probably doesn’t speak to them out of guilt/jealousy.

Either way he choose to risk the safety of himself and his family to preserve his pride as a self sufficient provider.
