I, for one, don’t believe Walt was always Heisenberg. I just believe, like with all of us, a Heisenberg lies waiting to burst forth. Very few people have been tested in the way Walter White has, and even fewer had the potential of becoming the legitimate success he once abandoned. At 51, that level of regret must be overwhelming, toxic, and blinding.
The difference here is that we make these moral compromises in less potent ways- like cheating on a spouse with your high school sweetheart, or secretly using your children’s college fund to buy the boat you planned to have before having kids.
More than anything else life or death situations have the power to drastically change people and Walt has been in several as well as other lesser but still traumatic experiences so it’s silly to say his character arc thus far is implausible.
Humanity has an unfortunately long and well documented history that absolute power or at least the illusion of it can corrupt absolutely in a short period of time.
I’m just not seeing WW as devil incarnate. WW is more like a realistic version of scarface that acts the part of bad-ass when it’s required. When an animal gets cornered that’s when it becomes very dangerous to deal with, WW is no different from this. The guy gets lung cancer (a death sentence) with very little time left and a wife and children that will have nothing much to support them. A man provides, even if it means stepping over others. The only weird thing is WW is reaching for an ‘empire’ something that is so unnecessary, dangerous and not in the best interests of his family.
That’s because his family isn’t the the reason for his “empire”, or any of his dealings. Perhaps it was in the beginning, but after surviving so much, Walt’s ego has taken over.
Walt is not justified in what he’s doing. He had options waaay back at the beginning that he did not take.
Furthermore, he could have been stricken with any life-threatening illness, but he specifically got cancer. That wasn’t a random choice on the part of the show’s creators. The show is about cancer in more than one way. Look at how Walt affects the lives of those around him.
…A character who you liken to Scarface(a character not meant to be looked down on as pathetic not sympathetic) doesn’t seem that evil to you? Yeah you need to read that to yourself until you understand the irony of what you said and save others the trouble of pointing out your stupidity.
Actually he’s the complete opposite because animals run on instinct and don’t have the mental faculties to use reason and logic to override their primal urges, while Walt intentionally embraces them at every opportunity. Equally reprehensible is how Walt fools himself as well as those around him (including you) into thinking he has no other options.
You need to grow up, I suggest you stop watch watching Breaking Bad it’s definitely not for you.
What you call weird us adults call depraved moral bankruptcy.
that’s the same dude who ruined the season 4 finale with that picture of Gus “post-Tio”. I see he still hasn’t learned spoiler tags or the rules surrounding them. Though,
GODDAMNIT NO!
Spoiler
“I could have just gotten the names from Lydia. This was completely unnecessary.” YEAH WALT, GREAT FUCKING TIME TO REALIZE THAT!!!
I say again, why would you even come to a breaking bad thread right after an episode and expect not to see immediate reactions and for the newest post not to be related to the events in the episode. You guys need to find logic and stop crying about spoiler tags.
