Well, not killing him for “who he is” pretty much defines that.
Agreed. Skylar is getting more and more annoying, not to mention greedy now that the money is going through her hands - she won’t back out of anything now that she see’s the sheer volume of Walt’s income. Walt is in remission, but no, it doesn’t seem to be affecting Skylar much any more. But again, she’s forced into the situation, whilst having to now aid it and risk losing her family, what choice does she really have? Doesn’t make me like her character any more though.
Jessie is getting a lot better now that he’s been kicked into gear and closed his home to strays. It seems the only time he takes a downer is when Walt constantly presses Jessie’s vulnerability through his own insecurities, bringing up his addiction, Gale’s death, his dead ex etc. Walt clearly no longer likes being the bottom of the pile and even under Jessie in terms of importance to the boss man.
Loved Gus’ flashback. Gives you good perspective on his character’s absolute hate towards Hector. Fuck Hector, btw.
That restaurant scene was tense when Walt and Hank went into Gus’ place. I’m wondering who was shitting more bricks between Gus and Walt. The fact that Walt knows Hank’s intention could get him, his, and Hank and his family knocked over.
Yeah well Skylar was so big and bad when tellin Walt who she messed with and all this. She had more than a choice, but she knows deep down she likes this lifestyle. You saw how she was about the car wash. My whole thing about her and Walt is that she be punkin Walkt and Walt be gettin punked by her. I guess Walt be gettin buck with the wrong people which he needs to slap the hell out of Skyler.
I think people are confusing their hatred of certain characters with the show not making solid and real characters. We are watching morally dubious or bankrupt people doing egotistical, selfish, or haphazard actions- that is the very basis of the show.
Walt has his ego, Gus is a conniving genius, Saul is morally bankrupt, Jesse is a murderer dealing with his sins, and Skylar is a control freak. The entertainment is watching them dig their holes deeper and deeper until all they have is complete darkness.
The beauty was seeing Gustavo Fring as more than a born psychopath, but a man turned due to circumstance. I loved hearing the dialogue in Spanish because the enunciation have a lot more weight and really make you guess what’s going to happen next. Gus is prepared to destroy the Cartel if need be, and that’s an exciting turn of events.
^ Yeah Gus is up there as one of my favorite characters. He is very calm and collected which is great considering the bs that is thrown at him. And to show that he really is not afraid of the cartel shows that this guy has something planned so far in advance that it will be hard to catch him off guard.
cuz that dude was scared of killing him. plus the whole “the drug war won’t end because at the top of the cartels lies a CIA agent” conspiracy theory. but yeah, Gus is probably some type of Chilean warlord or some shyt. what does he spend his money on? certainly not his car…
I really don’t know if Gus has the firepower to destroy the Cartel. I’m assuming when the Cartel’s respresentative talked to Gus, it was a “fold into us or die” -type of ultimatum? I think Walt and Jesse have it lucky because Gus has bigger fish to fry right now, instead of offing them. I see Gus going for Hank again, unless he, inevitably, wants to the DEA in his ass, as well.
This season has been all around good, for me. It turned into more a “repurcussions” season. Seeing people break down after their actions, especially Jesse, after shooting Gale in the face and whatnot. Even though Skylar has turned out to be not such a likeable character, she is totally right with the paper trail thing. Walt letting his emotions get the best of him and buying his son that Challenger wasn’t the best idea, considering they’re both “jobless” and have no “money,” so to speak. I think the “Shotgun” episode was random, but I liked it, too. The music was catchy…
The season is definitely picking up speed, but Walt himself is almost an incidental character now. It’s about how everybody else around him either has broken bad, is breaking bad, is attempting to break good, etc. Sorry if that sounded a bit labored.
It’s still as good as ever, but Walt needs a development to shake him out of this stagnation. We got a tiny bit when he had his first face-to-face encounter with Gus since the death of Victor and he nearly soiled himself. I suspect that the creators are slow-playing something, as usual.
Well, then, Jesse’s taking it like a man like no other, seeing Victor get sliced open immediately after shooting Gale in the face. I thought Walt getting Jr. that Challenger would’ve been that “umph” that Walt needed to move up, but sadly, Skylar had to shoot that down, but with good reason.
Yeah Jesse has manned up a bit over the last season. Will he get the job done or turn on Walt? I have little reason to believe he will turn on Walt because he wouldnt even be alive without him.
I just ran through all 3.5 seasons of Breaking Bad in a few weeks–I’m horrified that I didn’t hear about this show until recently. For 3 or so years, I’ve missed out on some kickass TV.
A lot of people like the parking lot/GPS tracker scene, but I thought that all the tension was a bit unnecessary. Couldn’t have Walt simply put it on, then gone straight to Gus to tell him he had a tracker on his car? Hank is happy, Gus should be thankful that he has an inside ear on this Hank-run DEA “investigation,” and everything should be fine. Am I missing something?
Otherwise, the most recent episode was pretty solid. It’s interesting that we finally see the motivation behind Gus’ actions, and that it’s personally motivated rather than by money. I also feel some serious foreshadowing going on–perhaps Jesse, Walt’s partner, ends up dying?
You never know, Gus could be over-cautious and off him, Hank, and their families–just like how he took out Victor because he showed up at Gale’s place after the fact.
Don’t be mistaken everything is still revolves around Walt and his mid-level machinations to achieve power and glory.
The Future
Spoiler
Next season is confirmed to be the last. I believe before this season ends Heisenberg will attain what he seeks after the smoke clears and the rubble is strewn about. However this rise will probably be as quick as his fall, and oh what a fall it will be. I just wonder how much human collateral will exist in the end?
This whole thing has been a bid to gain control in his life, but–such moments as the car arson aside–it hasn’t panned out for him. The slower, more deliberate show that Breaking Bad has become has allowed that fact to be very apparent.
I’m not hoping for a total 180 for Walt. Just some kind of significant movement. I understand there’s a long-term agenda, but do we have to wait until next year?
I had to marathon all the season’s until last weeks Hermanos episode. I am all caught up on the show now. The actor who plays Hank says he requested for his character to be written off the show. Looks like Hank will die then. Maybe he will take Gus down with him.
