So what are your bad habits? How do you stop yourself from doing them?
I think my biggest bad habit is tied to thinking ‘I’m good’…so I get hit knowing that when I get in I’ll do a ton of dmg, but I get ‘dumb’ with my dmg absorption.

jumping
being mindful
Using J.LK, into C. LK xx Lariat
As opposed to J.LK C.short, C.short hit confirm into SPD attempt or green hand
There are a lot of times where I dash/backdash using “hold direction, focus ~ press direction again” method. It’s something I really need to stop doing…
I lariat way too much. It works so well online its hard to break the habit. Worst things I do are lariating on reaction to a bnb/enemy being closee and lariating through hadokens from slightly outside EXGH range, it leaves me wide open for anything.
Im trying to break the habit by looking for spd and jump-in opportunities and dont just lariat on reaction to blocking a bnb.
Sometimes I lose…
Naw, really. I have the bad habit of playing too safe at times. Sometimes I go light on a wakeup in fear of not wanting to get punished, then i miss a clean opportunity to end the match. Its really terrible when its vs a projectile character then they play ultra fireball games and I lose a close match.
UghI do that SO much, especially with EF/Gief/Honda…I’ll have momentum and fear on my side, yet I’m so paranoid of dp/ultra type stuff that I end up just…squating…lie no meaties, no setup, I just squat…as Giefwho doesn’t even charge. I don’t get why I do it so much…iDunno shrug
You can link the shorts? It’s so hard to do. How long did it take you to do? Any advice/suggestions?
I got the C.jab C.jab C.short xx EX-GH down…
It’s actually pretty easy when it’s offline or there is no lag.
I secretly kick myself every time I jump against Sagat.
Also empty jumping on DP mashers is a no no.
Yeah, I can link the shorts consistant enough in training mode that I should use it in real matches, but I’m lazy.
I throw too many lariats, myself, so I eat a lot of kicks.
Early on when I tried to learn to use Zangief in previous games such as ST or CvS2, I would do stupid things like jab and try to combo into SPD. Every once in a while I find myself still doing that.
Oh yeah, and I keep losing to scrub Giefs who do nothing but jump into SPD or lariat. How embarrassing…
jumping
I don’t option selects enough, I don’t do normals hit confirm ex hand, I use SPD when I should be using RGB in some situations, I don’t trip guard against neutral jumpers, I don’t safe jump when I should.
My bad habit is over using bodysplash->lariat->exfa->whatever, its a really nice trick and its pretty rare that I find someone I cant blindside with it; BUT if I overuse it, it gobbles up all my EX bar and then it isnt there when I NEED it to win with an EXGH or a an EXSPD.
I used to lariat too much but as I worked my way up in championship mode I ran into more an more people against whom that was grounds for swift defeat; so the more I played at that level the more controlled my lariats become; not only reducing in frequency but also being selected more carefully (ie when to use KKK vs PPP or crouching vs standing)
Based on that perspective my guess is that the best way to break bad habits (at least for me) is to play against people who will destroy me over them.
I used to STRUGGLE with the .cjab/.clk/EXGH combo…I couldn’t do it for the life of me when fighting folks online. Meet up with folks and offline I’m like 95% with it …I am STILL in disbelief at the difficulty disparity in nailing that combo online verse offline.
jumping in and just rushing down, gotta play safer.
rushing in on a character like blanka, thats my bad habit
i still jump a lot and not block like I’m supposed to. Also forget to tech throws when i know they’re coming.
Despite not playing for 3 Weeks, there’s a noticeable habit of always opening up with a Green Fist out of me. Well, that and I lariat way too much when I don’t need to.
And crouching in front of a downed enemy. I need to find a way to be less predictable with Gief.
a lot of times when i land a headbutt i just become super aggressive all of a sudden cause i wanna get that stun and that gets me into trouble.
