Yet they never mention the fact that the fighting game community is bar-none the most diverse gaming community in the world (and I’ve been in a couple). Man I was really hoping this was all a bad April fools joke… but since I’m a part of this community I’m going to throw my 2 cents in and then walk away and try to forget that it’s not.
Imho this hurts the FGC, and I’m not going to debate or throw morals out there because imo this isn’t about morals(except LI Joe’s questionable concern for the FGC). A lot of people are trying to shrug this off like it’s no big deal(which hopefully it won’t be) or act like those against it are goodie goodies or prudes or w/e.
But the fact of the matter is all it’s going to take is 1 angry parent, or 1 bored news caster(we all know the news takes any excuse to bring up controversy for lack of real news) and this could get real ugly. There is a reason why no sports(except Kimbo Slice in association with Strike Force but they were both jokes and went under), or other video games, or anything that could get sponsorship have accepted sponsorship from porn(do you honestly think porn industries haven’t tried? or that they care about the FGC at all?)
Say what you want about freedom of choice, or the average age of people who actually attend tournaments that does not take into account all the variables there are with pre 18 year olds who live with their family. Imo(atm) this is going to go one of two ways either 1: this will get swept under the rug(if we’re lucky) and no attention will be brought to it / LI Joe continues to lose and ends up getting droped from his sponsor and thus forgotten about, or 2: the FGC is going to take heat from media outlets, parents, and even other sponsors. To me it seems like this in no way helps the FGC and only helps LI Joe’s stupid ass, if he was a legit good player he could get a legit sponsor not risk the FGC(OUR community) image which has already taken some blows recently. At the risk of sounding like a nazi, I would not at all be against banning LI Joe from tournaments and if I saw him IRL I’d have to try real hard to not spit on him for his decision here.
End of rant, here is hoping that this thread and anything related to this drops into obscurity(yes I know I added 1 view and reply which doesn’t help… but I wont be back lol).
