actually, as a soon to be 10 year practitioner of JKD(and not the one doing quick wiki searches), I do know what I’m talking about.
how can attacking someone who is in the process of attacking you be “fundamentally different” from anti-air, when that is fundamentally what an anti-air is? an interception is an interception regardless of an opponents location. if you are attacked with a flying knee/butterfly kick/superman punch, and you knock the opponent out of the air, you will have successfully anti aired in a real fight. the game simply exaggerates the attributes of the combatants, the concepts expressed in the game are universal to combat and strategy in general.
for a lot of JKD instructors, the straight blast is among the first handful of tactics addressed in the curriculum. they immediately teach its effectiveness against multiple responses from the opponent despite the tactic itself remaining the same. if the opponent tries to create space, straight blast closes the gap. if they try to close the gap, straight blast runs them over. if they try to block, straight blast breaks guard. option select. destructions are also a type of OS that will either block an attack or destroy the attacking limb depending on the opponents striking speed and placement.

muay thai is the real deal no doubt, but I think you’re mistaking JKD for wing chun or some shit. JKD is like, the concept of a fighting game itself or something. a lot of JKD guys(myself included) train at least a lil bit of muay thai at some point.
