Hello. This is my introduction into the website as well as where I stand in the fighting game genre.
I have a small history with fighting games, but I still consider myself a new player. The fighting games I’ve learned enough to call myself “good” at them are Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm games and Soul Calibur V. I play Mortal Kombat 9 casually with friends. Others which I have hardly tapped into yet are Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
The problem I’ve had with these fighting games is they are either too simple or too complex. The simple ones bore me pretty easily and the complex games frustrate me. I have been looking for a game that has a good balance between the two, as well as a popular all around fighting game, which has led me to Ultra Street Fighter IV.
I have come to this website in hopes of learning USFIV as well as meeting other players who can either help me learn how to play, kick my butt, or both. If you’re new, I’d like to play with you too. I do want to take this game to a semi-serious level and get pretty good at it. What I have to offer as a player is I am very helpful and if asked I can help you train working on specific things. When I get better I don’t mind being a decent challenge for people who want one. I play on PlayStation 3 and my PSN ID is the same as my username.
As far as my general fighting game experience goes, I seem to have a problem with consistency. One moment it seems as if I have never played a fighting game before, while other moments make me seem like I’ve become Chuck Norris for a short period of time. It fluctuates. I’m also working on patience and persistence.
If you have any tips/general advice for me, can point me in the right direction to begin with, or just want to say hello, all is welcomed.
Is there an ideal “beginner” character to use? I was fixing on using Ryu until I get better and find a more suitable character.
After reviewing gameplay, the hardest thing I will probably struggle with is getting past a barrage of projectile attacks. I’m not very good at getting past them in MK9, so I will need help with this.
You have to ask specific and interesting questions if you want answers. If you check the first page of this forum, most questions have only got a few responses. This is because most people ask questions that have been answered dozens of times before and also I think there’s a knowledge that most people who ask for help in the newbie forum play for a week, then lose, then stop playing forever. Burnout is at play too. I’m sure the first guy who asked “how do I get past fireballs” got a very detailed and plentiful set of answers. When guy number 2000 asks how do I get past fireballs, people aren’t so keen to go write up the same concepts again.
If you actually want to improve my advice to you is to pick the game you’re playing (SF4 in this case) and start posting in that forum, involving yourself in conversation, asking questions, and building relationships. That’s probably a better avenue than saying “I don’t want to be a part of this community because nobody answered my question.”
I bet you were too lazy to even bother to read what was on the sticky’s, and just decided to make your own thread regardless. Do you really think someone hasn’t made a " Hi i’m new here! Any tips? " thread before?
I appreciate you trying to help now, but the simple fact is–I don’t need it anymore.
By receiving no assistance for a week, the lack of “holding my hand” per se, caused me to take some initiative and discover everything on my own.
The game is near perfect and teaches you just about everything, and the website has filled in the missing pieces.
I’ve answered my own questions. Some characters are easier to use than others. There are a few ways of dealing with fireballs, either go around them or go through them. All I need now is a lot of practice.
I said I didn’t want to get involved with this game because I just stopped taking it seriously. I said I didn’t want to get involved with this community because, well, refer to my fourth message. I’ve met more helpful people in random matches online. I was told this community was thriving and positive, but I just don’t see it.
Has something been told 1,000 times? Has it been posted officially somewhere else? Post a link. Don’t just sit and let someone think that nobody visits the website anymore. im not speaking to anyone specifically. This is just a way to keep a community alive. Because you’re going to lose members giving them the same treatment as I received.
I’m done here. You had your chance to talk to me, and that chance has passed. Goodbye.
