Normally once i play any game for a bit i become fairly knowledgeable of how to win etc but i cant come to grips with street fighter and i want to so badly! i am unsure how the combos work as they are not like NRS games and i dont know what character to use as a beginner any tips or threads i could go to? help me become a SF pro :P?

man i thought SF had a wide fan base yet no one wants to help?

A strong community? Yes. Fortunately for you, we’ve got several good stickied posts in both the Newbie section and the SF4 section filled with good information, not to mention a ton of tutorials and guides available online on youtube. There’s even character-specific sections that you can look up for your own character. The information is out there. You just need to do some ground work and do the research yourself.

There are near-daily requests from new players asking, sometimes even begging, for help from more experienced players. The fact is, not everyone is willing to personally give you 1on1 guidance or training. The most reliable method of getting information and improving as a player is by doing it yourself.

Also, keep in mind that if you really want to find someone to help you out, ask them questions, train with them, etc… the best bet is to find a local scene near you. There’s a Regional Matchmaking section of the forum that can help you meet up with locals in your area who play the same fighting games. People are much more willing to help you when you put the time and effort into actually showing up and proving that you kind of want to take the game seriously and step up to the next level.

Dude, if you want to get help you’re gonna have to drop that kind of attitude. Furthermore, this is a message board, not a chat room. You have to give things at least a few hours for a reply, maybe a day.

As people have pointed out, there’s already a ton of information for SF4 readily available.

Watch the link Spiral0Architect posted, that’s what I watched when I wanted to take street fighter more seriously and it taught me a lot and it will teach you a lot too. And if there is a local scene or you have any friends in your area, then try to get help from them. And yes, we do have a strong community, you made this thread at 6:00 AM, which could be 9:00 AM or later for you, so other people and I were asleep when this thread was made. People aren’t on srk 24/7 so give people at least an hour or two to respond.

In mortal kombat and igau you have to string combos which is cake and in street fighter you have to link combos. Linking combos is a lot more difficult and takes time to adjust too. Each hit you do in a link creates a certain amount of hit stun and this allows you to combo by doing another normal. I believe you have to wait for the recovery frames before doing another hit in a link combo. You can also cancel pokes into special moves, for example ryu can do c.mk xx fireball.

i wish i could go to local places but there is none im in scotland and the UK scene doesnt seam as stong as the US i just want to be an online warrior like injustice and MK :stuck_out_tongue:

UK scene is quite strong, you just gotta look for them. Try regional matchmaking. If you guys like Ryan Hart are still continuing to support the UK scene, you guys will have access to plenty of good competition.

If your goal is to just be an online warrior, you’re going to have a tough time finding any kind of mentor, unless you randomly meet a guy online who’s willing to help you while you play. Hardcore players rarely just help out random guys online if their goal is to just stay at home and get better with no real purpose in mind.

Scotland? Whereaboots d’ye come frae? I know from experience there’s a bunch of good folk north of the border.

Check out http://www.versusscotland.com for Caledonian news, and also http://ukfgc.com for the general UK scene.

Online is fine*, but you will have more fun, improve more quickly, and just get better playing offline. Unless you’re me.

And, whatever you decide, you should definitely attend Hypespotting…

*It isn’t, it’s f**king awful, but I’m being positive.
