What a fight! awesome kickoff to 2009

I agree. Margarito needs to fight someone like Clottey (IBF) to try to get a title belt to get into a position to fight Mosley or Cotto again. A rematch with Paul Williams at 154 would be a good fight too. Margarito’s stock dropped so bad. Too often, Marg dug himself in the hole by letting Mosley put rounds in the bank.

Mosley was too sweet. Margarito wasn’t known for head movement and ate those overhands all night. Mosley finally showed a hell of a left hook and thown chrisp jabs and didn’t paw as much. I didn’t factor Mosley’s power and shame on me for over looking that. Mosley backed up Margarito and seeing Margarito fighting off the ropes was crazy. Great win for Mosley.

It didnt matter what margs had on his hands. Naz and mosley came in with the perfect game plan. and stopped a man who has never been stopped. Good stuff Mosley!!!

Mosleys hands were just HOMING onto Margarito’s face. I was on my feet that ENTIRE fight, I had never seen Margarito so clueless. He literally landed nothing in those dreadful 9 rounds. I agree Stlists, what a way to kick off 09!

I thought Mosley would stay on the body for most of the fight but no, all he needed to do was punch and his arms would find a path to Margaritos face lol. GG Mosley! Had margarito completely figured out.

well I didnt see that coming

is it true that vegas had margarito at 4-1? if so, a lot of people are guaped as of monday morning lol

This fight really exposed Margarito. I have to admit I thought he would win then again I thought he was better than what he had shown.

The guy has no defence what so ever. So Mosley was able to just pound him with full weight punches, against other fighters that wouldn’t work as they would sway out the way and counter he just decided to take the punches full on. Every punch Mosley hit him with he was aiming to murder him basically.

Also if Cotto rematches Margarito I think Cotto will win. Things will be harder for Marg from now on as people will know that he is not invincible. He is going to have to work on his defence. He could have lost on decision if he knew how to clinch and guard himself up.

It would be very hard for Margarito change how he fights at this point. Dood has been a fighting professional since 15.

If Mosley vs. Cotto II happens instead of with margarito, can Mosley do more then what he did against Cotto the first time?

In the first fight, Msoley was thrown off guard by Cotto’s boxing ability and, in my eyes, lost 8-4. Cotto is obviously not Margarito. Cotto has better defense and counters well. What Mosley lacked in the first fight was a scoring jab and left hooks. I seen those punches well done against Margarito so, IMO, thats all Shane needs against Cotto the second time around. I’m not saying Shane will beat Cotto, but would do a lot better.

Check out Friday Night Fights this week: Herman Ngoudjo vs. Juan Urango. This should be a good one

Vic Darchinyan is one of the best shit talkers in boxing today. He is one of those fighters many would love to see knocked out, but is one of the best fighters below lightweight. This is a funny/ insulting video towards Jorge Arce.

 Even though Vic and Arce are kinda straight-forward brawlers, Darchinyan has a huge left-hand eraser, whereas Arce busts you down gradually a la Cotto. Vic’s also pretty awkward with his style.

No matter what though, this should be a good one! Save for the perfect Donaire check left-hook KO, Vic’s shown himself to be quite rugged, and we all know Jorge’s enjoyment of taking and dishing punishment.

As much as I dislike Darchinyan for beating one of my favorite fighters, Chrisitan Mijares, Darchinyan isn’t receiving much praise from the boxing media he deserves. He should get a spot on the P4P lists for winning three belts in one year.

Vic just has this very awkward style. He is a good counter puncher and his opponents are very timid when in the ring with him because of his style. Should be a good fight with a lot of taunting from both fighters. If Jorge is not timid of Vic’s style, he should do well not to get KO’ed.

So Joe Calzaghe announced his official retirement. My inner fanboy would love to see his “oh” goes, but it seems he did not want to risk his undefeated record a la Floyd Mayweather Jr. From from an U.S./world stage boxing stand point, no one will miss him.

I wish I could say something nice about Calzaghe. No one outside of Wales knew him until he fought Jeff Lacy. He his talented and, at the same time, annoying to watch in the ring. I’m guessing the general boxing fans are not going to lose any sleep from Joe’s retirement. Whatever…

it’s the O.J. trial of the boxing world. today is the hearing to the Margarito hand wraps scandal and it is reported that Margarito and his trainer’s licenses are revoked for one year. Other states will honor the California state athletic commission.

this means we will not see Cotto vs. Margarito II in July and it will probably be vs. Mosley II which is the better fight anyways.

I am suing Margarito, I lost money on the Cotto fight.

@stylistics

so you don’t think wright/williams is a must-see? wright is kinda boring, but williams gets busy in the ring, looking forward to that one def.

I’m not disrespecting Winky Wright at all. He is one of my favorite fighters and stylistically, is a fighter that I tend to mimic in the ring. Don’t waste punches, keeps punches short ( knows his distance very well), and keeps his hands up.

Wright vs. Williams could be a good fight, the big question mark is Winky’s inactivity. Winky needs to use a lot of movement in the ring and his inactivity might hurt him their. But, he does have the style to beat Williams a la Carlos Quintana. Winky is one of the best southpaws out there and Paul Williams had a lot of trouble with southpaws that can box.

Attention all fight fans in Northern California:

March 7 - HP Pavilion, San Jose

Joel Julio vs. James Kirkland ( bombs away, someone is getting KO’ed)

Victor Ortiz vs. Mike Arnaoutis ( a very good match up )

Robert Guerrero vs. Daud Yordan ( Gilroy’s own, the Ghost in action)

I got my tickets for this one, ringside. beats driving to southern california to watch a big fight. This is one of the best cards out their and worth the money. I highly recommend this bout live.

Thanks for this, haven’t been keeping up but now I know what to look out for!

Holy shit, anyone just see that Martinez vs Cintron fight? Martinez got fucking crazy ROBBED.

Cintron put on a very poor performance. I left before the decision knowing the would give it to Martinez. That is just another black eye for boxing.

the ref in cintron vs martinez sucked so hard and Cintron complaining that the punch was a head butt.lol
