Boxing Thread

Where my boxing fans at? De la Hoya v. Mayweather is the biggest fight in years and no one is talking about it. Anyways, this fight is gonna be good. both fighters got a hell of a lot to lose. I can’t wait for the fight I might be in Vegas next week for it also.

i wish this fight happened 4-5 years ago when de la hoya wasnt so old. id have to say his chance of winning is somewhat slim

my money’s with dlh on this one.

Oscar’s going to get fucked up.

He isn’t in his prime anymore, and Floyd is in his best years.

Floyd will fly around him the entire match, while Oscar will try to sneak in his Left Hook.

Are you serious, he came of a nice fight with Mayorga. This dude is ready, he brought in Mosley to dupicate Mayweathers speed. He also got a added bonus cuz Mayweathers strength is not equal to Mosley’s. Freddy Roach is also in Oscar’s corner. This fights gonna be good.
I like Mayweather and this dude is gifted but he may make one slip up and Oscar will pounce on his ass

Mayweather doesn’t really have a knockout punch. He’s a boxing textbook in the flesh, but lacks the serious firepower I think that he will need to put down Oscar.

I also think Oscar is going to be much more motivated to win this than Mayweather is. This is (allegedly) Oscar’s last fight, and hes going to fight until hes 100% spent. For Mayweather, his career goes on afterwards, win or lose, but for Oscar this is his last stand.

And everyone loves and underdog

Mayorga…

That’s fight was about the equivalent of Floyd fighting Baldomir or Gatti.

It was a complete overmatch.I never thought Mayorga was that good in the first place

Dude has awesome power, but how serious can you take a guy that drinks, and smokes on the job?

BTW

This fight is supposedly Mayweather’s last fight.I follow him closely, and he’s said on numerous occasions that this will be his last fight. He has kids, and probably doesn’t want to stay around in the mix too long(So he won’t get any of the adverse effects of a veteran boxer)

Here’s an article, and they mention his retirement:

I think it’s retarded for him to retire at 30 years old,but if that’s what he wants to do then, let him do it.

mayweather might retire after this fight, but if i know boxers he’ll come back a few times

damn, I went grocery shopping and was looking forward to come back and read this thread and all of today’s posts were deleted… oh well…

Oscar de la Hoya is a GREAT boxer, but his career is highly overrated:

He beat a old Julio Cesar Chavez and old Pernall Withaker ( his defense gave him trouble).

He lost to every great fighter in his era (unlike Mayweather): Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley (twice), Tito Trinidad.

He got gift desisions over: Felix Sturm, Ike Quartey, Yori Boy Campas.

I give him props for not ducking anybody.

His BEST wins are a highly overrated Feranado Vargas and, amateur fighter, Ricardo Mayorga.

One thing I’ll say positive about de la Hoya. He whupped Vargas and Mayroga, and they were talking mad shit to him just like Mayweather. So his heart can lead him to victory against punching bags, but Mayweather is not a Mayorga nor a Vargas.

if you want to talk about gift decisions, then that trinidad fight shouldnt be looked at as merely trinidad beating de la hoya

yea, thats true. lol i am very biased toward mayweather. i got moneys on him…

But tito got exposed as a one dimensional “come forward” fighter.

What the heck happened to the post I made earlier today

for reals, just when the fight conversation was kicking in, in SRK…

Thats true, but you have to look at it in the context that de la hoya stood to felix for 12 rounds. Mind you that trinidad had power the was just mindblowing! One solid hit and oscar would of been eating dirt. mayweather dose not possess that kind of power but hes fast so he can get in you face land a few and get out.
if oscars smart he will have to use his reach to keep mayweather out. that might be hard cause floyds a small guy, I remember working at the 24 hour fittness off of tropicana in vegas and seeing him come in a few times and I must say that my girlfriend is taller then him. So keeping him back with out letting him slip in and exploiting a miss shot should be de la hoyas main game plan. Plus oscars got power behind his punches so it should be a good fight.

My prediction - floyd in 10 rounds but with boxing you never know.

Floyd is 5’8" and de la Hoya is 5’10"

PBF fought taller fighters before in Corales. Floyd promised to beat DLH at his own game by staying “in the pocket”. I don’t know who will dictate the fight… will Floyd’s “pot shot” be his bread and butter. I would like to see Floyd throw some combinations. Will his right hand get busted up?

I think it is kinda fucked up how in the contract, de la Hoya got every advantage he can get: DLH wanted Floyd to wear only Rayes gloves ( which are for punchers, not boxers), the ring size is smaller, the fight at 154 although that was a given.

I just can’t see a “past his prime” de la Hoya beating Floyd. I can see Mosley though…

I say PBF - UD 8 rounds to 4

The more I watch 24/7 the more I want Mayweather to lose. I like the dude but his arrogance is starting to get me sick.

earlier tonight former world champion diego corrales died in a motorcycle accident. he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sad news, RIP chico.

RIP chico…He has a baby on the way also

I read this morning from boxingscene. RIP Diego Corrales. He always gave fight fans their money’s worth…

Damn he died like a few miles from where I live. Blue Diamond is one dangerous fuckin’ road.
