i haven’t seen the fight in question, but i saw the roy jones fight and it’s actually the ref’s duty to get in between a call the knockdown or step in between the fighters. in the jones fight the guy fell to one knee, jones looked at the ref and the ref didn’t say/do anything so he hit him again, and then got DQ’d. if the guy on one knee would’ve threw a haymaker or some shit and caught jones the conversation would be “oh you should never let up on your opponent until the ref says so”, the protocol for when the ref is loafing around is mad terrible…i guess i’ll see this fight next week on HBO though and decide for myself.
oh yeah, hatton is over at this point. he’s looked terrible in 4 of his last 5 fights, i’m not really anxious to see hurricane pacquiao come in demolish him.

But when Roy hit Griffin he had been on the ground for like two or three seconds before he threw that flush punch. This wasn’t the same thing as what took place with Soto. Cortez instigated Soto’s assault by breaking Soto to stop the fight, but then pulling back and then Soto tried to finish Lorenzo before he had more time to recover and Soto hit him right at the second he hit the ground and the punch was a grazed. Then he pulled back with the other punch before it landed. Plus Lorenzo couldn’t continue because he took a beating and Cortez knew it because he was going to stop it anyway before he had a moment of senility. That “Punch” wasn’t a reason for his inability to continue it was the fact that he got skullfucked in the previous four rounds. Plus under Nevada law Cortez could have just taken a point from him and let the fight continue. Soto got screwed.

Humberto Soto got fucking robbed. Although the santioning bodies are mostly evil, at least the WBC got it right by not giving the interm belt to that guy that faked recieving that rabbit punch. Soto was just finishing his combo off. That was not a late punch. Soto doesn’t need to waste his time with a rematch with that guy.
I felt kinda bad for the guy, the way he fell down. He showed a lot of heart and not wanting to quit, but Manny was too fast for him.
Reading around the internet, Manny Pacquiao may face Edwin Valero next. He is a Venezuelan fighter based from Japan. He is only well known to the most hardcore boxing heads, but this fighter brings a good record, on paper. What makes this guy attractive to Manny is his undeteated record and a perfect KO ratio: 24-0-“24 KOs” I think 18 of those KO’s in the first round alone. Valero is like a mini Mike Tyson. Boxing fans are salivating for this one to happen.
I don’t know why people are salivating for this match so much Pacquiao would destroy Valero, fighters of his sort would, in my opinion, be destroyed by Pac as they would literally walk into his powerful punches throughout the fight. For some reason I am reminded of Ponce vs. Baustita where the fight occurred too soon for one of the parties. Another two years is what I think.
Still I guess he could shock the world, or me at least I just see him getting creamed if it were to occur.

A fight with pac and Valero has potential. I’m probably caught up in Valero’s record, which is his hype. The hype that Manny could be fighting a bigger puncher then himself. Sure, Valero’s record is based off of wins agains nobodies and seeing Valero fights off youtube, he is slow and he fights with his chin sticking out which could lead to an early KO from an elite fighter, but he will have that one punch power that David Diaz didn’t have.
Right now, the lightweight division has the most talent in boxing with the super featherweight fighters coming up in weight and the fall schedule has all the top guys at 130 and 135 fighting each other leaving Pacquiao without a dance partner in the fall:

That was a great round, the post fight wrap up explained that it was actually a headbutt that initially stunned Torres
