thank you B hop for shutting the overrated Tarver and we’ll see you at the Hall of Fame. and Thank you for such a great career in this sport of boxing. and finally, We’ll see B- hop at the “de la Hoya/ Mayweather” promotion ^.^
Both “magic man” fighters lost this weekend.
after Castillo messed up my weekend, making me stupid for inviting my friends to watch the Corrales fight and telling them that the fight is canceled, B- hop/ tarver fight made up for it.
now looking towards to the next bout: (HBO): Jermain Taylor vs. Winky Wright, 12 rounds, for Taylor’s unified middleweight titles. JUNE 17:
Jermain Taylor - W 25 (17 ko’s) | L 0 | D 0 |
best jab in boxing, in his prime, top 5 pound for pound, beat Hopkins twice, undefeated
Ronald Wright - W 50 (25 ko’s) | L 3 | D 0 |
known for having one of the best defense in boxing, beat Trinidad and Mosley (twice), HOF career
best part of this fight is it is on FREE HBO, not PPV
I got Winky in this one.
Yo great post as well, Im glad to see X-Man go out on top, its kinda solid in a way because he lauched someone else’s career in the process of closing his on.
now that all my favorite fighters in the 90’ are going to retire soon, Who am I going to root for this generation of boxers? Good to see Hopkins pass the torch to Talyor and told him to represent the middleweight division, but he’ll have to get past Winky Wright.
This makes me wonder why Hopkins and Wright never fought. I’m thinking that maybe if Winky Wright wins on Saturday, that he might call out B-hop out of retirement for one more superfight. Same could be said for Roy Jones Jr. If so, should Hopkins accept? Not too many fighters go out on top, but for the right money…
It is very different for an american fighter to fight in Europe because the money/ fame/ respect is in america. Also not having a top promoter probably hurt Winky in making fights happen like when Mayweather called out Winky a while back.
Roy Jones was easily the best boxer since Sugar Ray Leonard, and in my opinion Jones was better. He gave Bernard Hopkins his most decisive (only decisive) loss, dominated James Toney (one of the 10 best boxers of the last 15 years), and dominated a top 3 heavyweight. Nobody seriously challenged Jones in his prime, and he went years without losing a round. People seem to hate him for various reasons, the most reasonable being he didnt fight a few good fighters floating around like Gerald McClellan, Nigel Benn, and Dariusz Michelzsewski, but I dont fault him. He would have mopped the floor with Benn (and Steve Collins too), and Dariusz refused to leave Germany. There was only a short window of time for Jones to fight McClellan, as he was shortly left severely mentally impaired after his fight with Benn. There is no doubt in my mind that Jones and McClellan would have fought if Gerald never got hurt.
Also, Jermain Taylor is going to dominate Winky Wright, and I’ll even give you nice guys the reasons why:
Winky Wright is overrated: Winky is a guy who, for whatever reason, has recently been lauded as one of the top 2 or 3 pound for pound fighters in the world. I dont really understand this, maybe people are making up for the fact that he was completely ignored for most of his career. He looked pretty bad in his last fight against Sam Soliman, where his vaunted defensive wizardry was nowhere to be found. He has made his career on beating Tito Trinidad, a former junior welterweight, and Shane Mosley, a former lightweight. Mosley almost beat Wright in their second fight, amazingly enough. Basically, Wright has made his career on beating two guys who are fucking miniature. He LOST to the 3 best real junior middleweights he fought, and they were not exactly the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson. Fernando Vargas beat him in a close fight. Vargas went on to lose to Tito Trinidad, Oscar de la Hoya, and Shane Mosley. Harry Simon beat Wright pretty soundly, and went on to do nothing else. Julio Cesar Vasquez beat Wright, and went on to lose to a bunch of Mexican nobodies. So basically, Wright lost to the 3 best junior middleweights he fought, who were at most, B-B+ fighters. Jermain Taylor is an “A” fighter, not to mention a huge middleweight who will probably end up at light heavyweight before his career is over.
Jermain Taylor is underrated: People see Jermain Taylor, a relative rookie, struggle with Bernard Hopkins a couple of times, and immediately write him off as a media creation. Are people forgetting that his opponent was Bernard fucking Hopkins? One of the 5 best middleweights of all time? A guy that nobody, not even Roy Jones Jr, looked good against? Taylor won both fights 7-5 and imposed his will on Hopkins, which was just about as much as he could do. Check out the Tarver Hopkins fight. Hopkins jumped up 2 weight classes and utterly clowned Tarver, the Light Heavyweight Champ. The only men to beat Bernard Hopkins are Roy Jones Jr, the best fighter of the last 20 years, and Jermain Taylor. (Clinton Mitchell doesnt count, as a 4 round fight that could have gone either way and took place 20 years ago is completely inconsequential). Jermain Taylor has a great jab, great power, great array of punches, great heart, great athletics, great chin, and a great right hand. In short, hes great. The fact that he beat the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world twice and is not on peoples pound for pound list is ridiculous. Now that Hopkins is retired and Floyd Mayweather Jr is the number 1 pound for pound fighter, Wright is the consensus number 2. When Taylor beats Wright, people will have no choice but to give him respect and put him at least #5 on their pound for pound lists.
Winky cant hurt or intimidate Taylor: Taylor will be going into the fight with sky high confidence after watching Hopkins completely dismantle Antonio Tarver. He will be much more relaxed and confident in the ring with Winky than he was with Hopkins. He will be much more fluid and much more aggressive due to this fact, and the fact that Winky couldnt really hurt Trinidad or Mosley, guys who started their careers 20 pounds south of Wright. Taylor will be looking to bust up Winky from the get go, and he will.
Jermain Taylor dwarfs Winky Wright: Jermain Taylor is 6’1 and has a 78 inch reach. Winky Wright is 5’10 with a 72 inch reach. For a fight that is going to come down to who has the more effective jab, 6 inches of reach and 3 inches of height is HUGE. Wright will simply not be able to out-jab Taylor. Wrights main (and only) weapon is his jab. This spells huge trouble. He is going to have to work twice as hard as Taylor to land the jab, using lateral movement, feints, and aggression, three tools that Wright is not very skilled at. Taylor, starting in the mid rounds, will start to open up on Wright after he finds that he can land his jab at will. Wright, meanwhile, will be forced to change gameplans, and try to land hard shots against Taylor, which will leave him open for more of Taylor’s right hands.
I would not be surprised if Taylor knocks Wright out, but I am going with Taylor via UD because I respect Wright’s defence and heart enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I could see Cotto destroying Hatton. Hatton proved in his last fight at welterweight that he doesnt belong there. His style doesnt work if he isnt physically bigger and stronger than his opponents. Cotto, meanwhile, has struggled to make 140 for awhile now, and usually comes into fights looking like a middleweight. If the fight comes off at 147, Cotto will physically dwarf Hatton, which is bad news for Hatton.
Cotto vs Castillo is a more interesting fight, and one I think Castillo might win. I am wary of Cotto’s physical advantages, however.
quite an analysis on the Taylor/ Wright fight. I will hop on the Taylor bandwagon if he beats Wright, but if he loses, then he will be a ‘one hit wonder’ with a record in my eyes still. This fight will be based on who will have the most effective jab.
Hopkins was still green when he fought Roy. if Hopkins jumped 168 or 175 to meet roy (or roy going back down) then that would of been a better match up in their primes.
Hatton should unite all the 140 belts and stay there. Collazo exposed Hatton and he is too small for 147.
ok now that taylor/wright is said and done as it ends in a draw
winky once again says he got screwed, “another vargas” as he calls it.
fact of the matter is, i had Taylor winning that fight by 1 point
i think taylor is the real deal, i’ve never seen anybody put that kind of damage on Winky’s face. of course his flaws are very apparent, he can defenitely become the next great fighter if he keeps at it.
winky saying stupid shit like i dont event want a rematch. all he’s complained about is how he’s never gotten money fights in so long, and now he’s telling HBO that he wouldnt accept a sequel to what may have been the best fight this year. perhaps it’s his frustration speaking, i would really like to see a rematch though.
If Taylor’s eye doesnt swell shut, he wins the fight be a few points, as it was, I had it for him 115-113. With another 4 months with Emmanuel Stewart and 2 good eyes, Taylor would have a much easier time in the rematch.
But I gained alot of respect for Winky. He has the best jab in boxing, and the size difference made almost no difference at all, as people were predicting it would. Also, Winky blocked alot of shots, but he took alot of the shots too, shots I expected would knock Wright down or out. Hes a tough bastard, ill give him that.
At least I didn’t lost money… although I had it for Wright 115-113, I’m happy with the draw. Stewart will make Taylor into the most watched non heavyweight since de la Hoya. Very good future for him. Winky proved that he ain’t no stepping stone and for winky to make the next fight happen, as bad as it sounds, make the fight PPV. Or fight at Vegas.
yeah if taylor’s eye didn’t swell up in the 10th(?) he definitely would’ve won the fight. there’s no way wright doesn’t accept a rematch, it’ll probably ppv in AC or vegas though as the guy above me said.
what divisions anyone would like to watch, but doesn’t.
For me, the 168LB super middleweight is hard to follow. I never seen any bouts on any channel for 168LBS and below 126LBS featherweight. Cruiserweight??? Que’???
147LBS welterwright has the most depth right now in the game and is the hottest division. Of course having the number one P4P fighter is a big reason. Second being middleweight 160LBS and 130 super featherweight is my favorite divisions.
Julio Chavez jr. and Camacho Jr. needs to stop padding their records.
Erik Morales is not going to make the 130LBS for the pacquiao III fight. Or he’ll lose so much energy trying to make weight. Luckly the fight got dated back to November because of Pacquiao out of the ring activities ( playing pool, bitches, movies).
