Anything under 126 (Well, 130 now, as Barrera, Morales and Pacquiao are all at 130) is a wasteland with the exception of the odd Rafael Marquez fight at Bantamweight/118 and the flyweight/112 pound division (Jorge Arce, Vic Darchinyan, Pongsaklek Wongjongkam). You can watch Ivan Calderon (strawweight/105) fight on PPV undercards all the time, but those cant even be called fights.

168 and Cruiserweight are fairly prolific, at least on PPV. Lightheavyweight is a division barren of any fights that dont feature Tarver, Johnson, or Jones.

de la Hoya on 6/22/06 said that he will not fight again this year, but a farewell fight will be planned next May 5th 07 against, most likely, Mayweather Jr. My opinion is if that fight happened during Cinco de Mayo weekend, that would easily becoming one of the highest grossing PPV’s ever. de la Hoya better hopes Mayweather Jr. does not lose this November.

Mayweather Jr’s camp is to arrange a fight for sometime in November. Here are some of his options:

-Winner of Shane v.s. Vargas fight

-Cotto

-Hatton

-Baldomir if he wins against Gatti this July

-Margarito

My opinion: Hatton’s camp (as well as Hatton) is scared, Cotto and Margarito are the best candidats. Vargas cannot go down to 147 and this can be a good test for Shane and cement his HOF bid if he can beat Mayweather Jr. Also Baldomir would be too easy and boring for PBF and also probably little money on that fight.

even though winky did win by a small margin,
it is by no means a robbery.
i give taylor credit because i didn’t think he would do that well.
Winky is a very hard guy to fight.
i give winky credit as well but i don’t give him credit for crying like a little bitch.

Nahhhh, c’mon I wqanted Winky to win as much as the next guy, but he didnt win. The better man that night won.

Taylor made a fan outa me…

great fight though. Winky’s corner pressure was amazing, it was like he froze Taylor with a subzero shot.

I don’t think it was a robbery. A close fight could have gone either way 7-6 Wright or Taylor or a 114-114 draw. But some people I know had Wright 116-112. Now that is a 8-4 winky fight. that is too much IMO.

I thought Winky should not have bitched after a “no show” on the 12th round. Fighters should know, the most, that a fight ain’t over untill. One round could make a difference in losing, winning, or a draw in Winky’s case. I had it 7-6 for Wright. But I am not a judge.

More time Manny training Taylor and he will win the re-match if it happens. And staying off the ropes as well.

Now that I have thought it over, how about: Mayweather Jr. v.s. Mosley (if he wins against Vargas again)

Sorry for that double post, but I wanted to say that this latest draw is what boxing DOESNOT need. First, Barerra v.s. Jaurez scorecard; then Castillo fails to make weight; now the Winky/ Taylor draw.

How can boxing regain top 3 sport status (1950s-70’s)? Get rid of all of the different organization belts? Too many weight classes? Kill all those greedy promoters? Start showing the bigger fights on free TV (getting rid of PPV)?

dont forget the Toney draw, my jaw dropped when I heard that the next day(since I changed the channel after the fight, thinking Rahaman won)

yep those are very good examples of why boxing is going downhill.
especially castillo, i have lost alot of respect for him.
there’s no way in hell he shouldn’t have made weight.
taylor now gets my respect.
yes, mayweather vs. mosley would be a crazy ass fight.
but to be honest, i’m a vargas fan because he has so much heart so ill be cheering vargas on.
when is the fight by the way?
and fat toney needs to hang up the gloves

july 15th is mosley vargas 2
when do you think cotto is ready for a fight with the likes of a mayweather?
i still think he needs a couple of years at the least
de la hoya/mayweather is inevitable

winky got robbed. winky won the majority of those rounds IMO. he won damn near every round. niggas are acting like taylor didn’t hit winky’s boxing gloves 822.43 times in that fight. and thats pretty much ALL he hit. winky’s defense > ____. its just that ppl, the judges included, don’t want to see a defensive guy or give the fight to a guy who’s 95% defense, 5% offense, so thats why winky lost.

taylor backed away the whole fight. he spent most of his time walking backwards and rubbing his back against the ropes. winky spent the whole fight blocking while walking (while taylor’s stupid ass fell for it and fell back) forward throwing a jab/hook here and there. lets put it this way:

taylor = dr. bosconovich, winky = a WALKING sentinel complete with sentinel armor. that fight was rigged for taylor to walk away with his belt. even if it was tied, which it wasn’t, the ref should have taken away like 2 points for taylor holding winky down. he did this like 4 times during the fight and nothing happened. BULL SHIT.

Taylor landed the more meaningful punches, winky punches in bunches and Taylor was landing the real shots.

I dont care what anyone says about Winky’s defense or how hyped it got prefight, but he was getting hit with bombs.

I cant see the robbery, I really wanted Winky to win, like honestly…Im not just saying to make my point, but when I scored the fight I had Taylor keeping his belt.

Juarez v.s. Barerra Rematch Offical

**Juarez Knew Barrera Would Take The Rematch

By Mark Vester**

After gaining a draw against WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera in May, only to have the result changed to split-decision win for Barrera, Rocky Juarez is going to get his shot at revenge.

Originally, after 12 rounds of heated action that saw Barrera come out strong in the first half of the fight and Juarez take over the second half of the fight, the scores were 115-114 for Juarez, 115-113 for Barrera and 114-114 for the draw. After the decision was announced and the live HBO telecast went off the air, two of the three judges noticed errors on their scorecards. Judge Ken Morita, originally scoring the bout a 114-114 draw, said he incorrectly added up the rounds and changed his card to 115-114 in favor of Barrera, which gave the champion a split-decision win. Judge Anek Hongtongkam, also incorrectly added up the rounds on his card, which originally was read as 115-113 for Barrera, and later changed to 115-114 for Barrera.

Most experts thought the rematch would never happen, but Juarez told the Houston Chronicle that he always felt that Barrera would fight him again to try and redeem himself.

“People didn’t believe he’d take the rematch, but as a fighter, I knew he was going to take it either because he believed he lost, or the fact that when he went back home to Mexico, his own people, I’m sure he had his doubters who probably felt he lost the fight. So any fighter doesn’t like to win like that. And let’s just say this: It’s my rematch, but I guess you could say it’s both our rematches,” Juarez said.

The bout is slated to take place on September 16 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, as the main event of an HBO pay-per-view telecast.

PPV ?!?!? This fight better have a hell of a undercard. This is the fight that is taking place of Mayweather/ de la Hoya fight at the reserved MGM grand for 9/16.

My money is on Jaurez UD or SD.

Brock is looking good as well as Julio on boxing after dark.

I just ordered the Pacquiao / Larios fight. I am looking forward to this fight although I have never seen a Larios fight; he is jumping two weight classes to fight @ 130LBS againt the Pac man. Is their going to be an upset? I don’t think Larios is a “tune up” fighter for Pac man and the Filipino fans better not overlook him because of the the roles are reversed for Pacquiao from the Barerra fight. He is the star now and Larios is the “hungry for attention” fighter.

what meaningful punches?
if i were to come at you with my hands up, and you keep swinging and hitting my arms, and i’m still going forward and you back up, and then you back up into a corner and i wail on you, how did you or can you win the fight? right after i throw like 4 blows, i got back into my defensive position, rinse and repeat.

i don’t see the meaningful blows to winky that taylor threw. taylor won like two rounds that whole fight at MOST. he was walking backward the whole fight. he moonwalked more than michael in 84. =/

cotto would mashup hatton

i agree with you their. Winky was not hurt on that fight and Winky out connect and higher %. I watched the fight 3 times and I did not see Taylor winning. Could HBO influenced the outcome of the fight? They were rooting for Taylor with Lampley’s bised commentary.

This is the rematch I want to see, not Mosley/ Vargas. That rematch is meaningless

Winky was hurt more than once. Why do you think he eventually stopped moving forward? Jermain hurt him and towards the end of the fight Winky just called it a night rather than take anymore. It’s just not obvious to the untrained eye. Boxers are trained to show that they’re not hurt. I still think winky won the fight though 7 rounds to 5.

And no, HBO can’t influence out comes of fights. We hear their commentary, judges don’t. And it was not shocking to see Taylor get a draw, up close live power punches influence judges a lot more than a guy living off a jab. Judges can see heavy shots and the toll they take much better than anyone watching on T.V.

he stopped going forward because he had the fight won. he wasn’t hurt. you could tell he thought he had the fight won because he was winking at the judges and shit. he tried to pull a de la hoya in the trinidad fight by just chillin during the last round, and watching the fight, i could see why.

taylor NEVER hurt winky that whole fight. winky lost about two rounds that whole fight. he got robbed. america, the judges, etc. aren’t ready for a person in boxing that is 90% defense, 10% offense. they want to see a slug fest and someone get knocked out. we all know winky coulda knocked taylor out if he would have just finished, but for some reason that only him and God knows, he didn’t. i think/HOPE that he’ll learn from this. he won that fight though.

you really think, that going into the 12 round that Winky was so sure he had the fight won? I mean seriously…hes a boxer fighting a CHAMP, that is loved by the people. WHo is Winky? To the USA a nobody journyman who lost to Vargas( I know how good he is). Winky was raising his hands in rounds that he lost…wtf?

To be the Champ you got to beat him, in this case convicingly(sp?)
Winky knew Taylor had the fight so he gets on the bike and calls it a day in the 12th, this way it looks like he was so sure he had it won…complete Bull Shit. He is fighting the Champ, you cant sleep…ever. And in a fight that close what the fuck was he thinking?

"ohh well Im 100% positive im up 2 rounds, so Ill take a nap?"
Are you serious? Get the fuck out with that, No Champ I know fights with that state of mind…HIS trainer told him to fight! Who knows more about where the rounds are at …Winky? Hell no.

Funniest post I’ve read in a long time.

To think that two grown men can stand toe to toe and exchange punches and not get hurt just isn’t logical. All fighters get hurt over a 12 round fight, you don’t think any of those right hands to the face ever hurt Winky? Come on now. Remove Winkys sack for a second and think rationally. That statement alone proves you just aren’t seeing the fight in an objective manner. Trust me, he was hurt many times in this fight. He didn’t win 10 rounds, this wasn’t Bernard Hopkins vs Tarver. It was close enough to where Winky couldn’t give up any rounds at all. His trainers knew it, damn near everyone except Winky knew it.

And btw, just when was the last time Winky knocked someone out?

Apparently James Toney and Samuel Peter are going to fight in September.
