You actually expected Trinidad to win after getting dominated by feather punches from Winky WRight? Wright made Trinidad look like an MMA fighter trying to do boxing.
i didn’t watch the first fight live, but I saw the rerun. Awesome fight. A middleweight classic. But I’ll pass on the sequel because I’ve been buying one PPV a month since Sep. 2007.
As for Pacquiao vs Marquez II, my wife and the whole country of the Philippines are shaking in they boots. Marquez ain’t nothing to fuck with. Plus, with the recent “outside the ring” escapades, Pacquiao gets less focused more and more after every fight. He got away with it against Barerra II last October 2007, but Marquez started trainning before Christmas with Pacquiao just barely starting this week. I think Pacquiao is making the mistake of looking past Marquez, trying to get a fight with Ricky Hatton in fall 2008.
I got Marquez winning 8-4 rounds 116-112
at least we get some good fights on “regular” HBO in between…
Yeah I wish he’d stop screwing around. That time he ran for congress last year was a real head-scratcher.
Hopefully with his movie majorly, majorly bombing, he’ll get a clue and focus on the boxing. I really hope.
Roy Jones and Hopkins? Hmm… I guess it could be a good fight, but I don’t think Jones will stand a chance. He might get beat worse than Tarver did.
Yeah I know, but Hopkins’ skils hasn’t aged as bad as Roy Jones has.
That was a long time ago.Very long time ago.
At this point Hopkins is a much superior technical boxer
cotto didnt fight tonight , tito needs to keep his ass retired
while we got this thread temporarily up, what you guys think about a possible:
de la Hoya vs. Mayweather II ?
We all know that boxing is a business first, then a sport. IMO, it is the biggest waste of time and this fight hurts boxing. I will not pay for this fight a second time. de la Hoya is taking away a Mayweather - Cotto fight. Oscar needs to fucking retire so fighters can stop chasing him for the money. If Cotto vs. Mayweather doesn’t happen, I’d lose some respect for Mayweather for not putting the “stamp” on his career. Beating a smaller Ricky Hatton is a great victoey, but not as good as a possible victory over a true Welterweight in Miguel Cotto.
Pacquiao spends too much time on that GMA channel. filipinos here know what i’m talking about.
yeah i don’t think jones really wants any part of hopkins at this point in his career, the only ass shaking that’d be going on after hopkins delivered a couple of body blows would be involuntary while lying on the mat a la de la hoya.
i disagree about the mayweather/cotto fight needing to happen to validate his career, it’s the mindset that ultimately never lets fighters retire and eventually get royally fucked. say mayweather fought cotto tomorrow and knocked him out, all that would happen is that the next undefeated/up incoming guy would be the guy that mayweather MUST fight. when floyd was mashing up baldomir’s face he was supposedly dodging de la hoya and margarito, then hatton started calling him out…now cotto. dude has taken on everybody he’s had to, he has nothing to prove.
oh yeah and i never pick against pacman, although i don’t know how much longer dude is gonna be able to fight the way he does.
which is why i’m ready for a hopkins vs. jones fight. i say get it done. sign the contracts.
I see a three way dance between Jones, Hopkins, Calzaghe.
With Jones publicly saying he would goto Wales to fight Calzaghe and Calzaghe never fought in the US, I can see Calzaghe fighting Roy Jones and not Hopkins. Calzaghe gets to fight in the comforts of his home and Jones can get that one last big win.
I don’t think Hopkins - Jones II will happen again. based on what they said each other in the past," 60/40 i’ll kick yo ass". Who will get the bigger share of the purse?
well if hopkins/jones II goes down now hopkins would def get the bigger share considering he didn’t get knocked out 3 times in a row and all lol. but yeah it’s funny seeing jones making all of these accomodations and shit now that he’s no longer ROY JONES. i think he’s already decided in his mind that calzaghe is a guy that he can beat though which is why he’s pushing this “i’ll go to wales!” nonsense.
it was a good effort from tito. i thought he quit against winky but he fought till the end in this fight even though he was getting out boxed. gives me hope that he can still go in there and beat some people if he can get his weight down to where it should be.
Tinidad vs. Jones final punch stats:
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/view.php?pg=compubox_roy_jones_felix_trinidad
I don’t care what anybody says, Roy Jones in his prime was one of the most entertaining fighter sever
hmm i guess trinidad threw more than i thought, oh well those power punch stats don’t lie.
tito couldn’t figure out a way to get to roy’s face through his gloves, which is what i was saying earlier…whereas roy could hit tito in the face anytime because tito fights “regular” and was trying to figure out a strategy against roy’s awkward boxing style the whole fight.
i honestly didn’t see roy throw THAT many more punches than tito though. power punches, yes he threw them but he didn’t throw THAT many from what i saw but oh well/whatever. they were still effective and fast and i do think roy was the better boxer but had no class whatsoever.
I agree everything you said about Mayweather. Mayweather fought Baldomir because he was the “Real” Welterweight champion. Baldomir beat Judah and Judah beat Corry Spinks ( Baldomir beat the man that beat the man). Plus, Mayweather loves them “Green” belts. I agree that Mayweather doesn’t need Cotto. Myaweather fought the best in his career. And Mayweather fighting Hatton was a legit fight because Hatton was undefeated and the best fighter in 140, just one division lower then Myaweather’s division and the chance to beat the number one fighter in the world is a good reason why Hatton fought Mayweather. I just don’t want to see de la Hoya vs. Mayweather II
Probably Roy Jones took a page from Winky Wright’s school of defense when WInky fought Trinidad.
i hope the chargers can pull the upset ( wishful thinking)
yeah i agree, this fight would only become “worth it” after the fact if de la hoya wins bcuz then they would DEFINITELY have to fight a third fight that would be super interesting, however there’s no real reason to believe anything would different would happen in a rematch between the 2 of these guys.
honestly i forgot that cotto fought and beat mosley, but mayweather/mosley would’ve been a great fight 2 or 3 years ago, not so sure about that now.
