I also have absolutely no interest in De La Hoya wasting another 7 months of my life just so he can cash in. He mentioned at the post fight press conference that he thinks he’ll be able to get down to 147. Obviously Oscar is looking at Cotto and sees dollar signs. It’s the same thing as Arum trying to hype up Margarito so it looks like some big spectacle when Cotto beats him.
Yeah, the options are pretty damn slim. There just isn’t many people that will be worth the promotional investment. HBO is not going to squander their years of investment in Mayweather to start putting him on regular HBO at the most profitable stage in his career. And since it didn’t happen until he was 30 the decisions have to be that much more carefully. I thought Cotto-Mosley was going to do at least as good as Mosley-Vargas 1/2. Just goes to show the benefits of fighting Oscar even years later.
Williams presents a very large threat but his victory over Margarito can be pretty deceiving. The big difference is that Margarito stood in front of him the entire time. In previous fights Paul had some major stamina issues with smaller opponents. Clean shots on Paul would draw a big reaction because they would be so easy to see when he isn’t being crowded. Remember how spider-monkey like Floyd was running around hitting Corrales from all angles?
Tszyu-Mayweather at 140 would’ve been just…insane. I can’t even begin to predict what might have happened. To bad hes already been retired for two years; I kept expecting him to make a comeback. There was an interview a year or so ago where he said there was some interesting offers on the table. Kostya probably could’ve got Don King to give him whatever he asked to challenge Zab for his welterweight titles in 05’-06’.
Check out this video I made on the Mayweather v. Hatton fight:

Notes from watching this fight carefully for clips for the video:
This video is not a highlight reel, but a summary
the ref. really fucking sucked. its like he wanted to be bigger then the fighters and he always went to Hatton’s corner to lecture.
it was hard to find Hatton clips in the later rounds
check out round 9. I recorded all 11 jabs landed by “Money” ( and one straight in the 9th)
Having both the HBO and UK (Sky) telecast and the US commentators were biased like a motherfucker. The UK announce team ( with that Scottish dood with a HEAVY accent) were more objective and better to listen to.
on the bad HBO announce team, in the 7th round, they talked about medical cream for almost the entire round. That was retarded.
HBO hates hopkins, and mayweather especially and they are generally fucking clueless
though the exception of emmanuel stuart cause he’s the only one that doesnt act like a fucking retard, and can understand whos winning and why most of the time.
they always sound like madden on a boxing announcing team. they always remind you of basic boxing stuff like you already dont know. i can almost hear madden now going “you know the point of a boxing match is to knockout your opponent.”
Hey Boxing crew, I’m getting into boxing and it’s finer points after a bartender friend of mine got me into it and was wondering how comparable Julio Cesar Chavez is to Mayweather Jr. or any of this eras great welterweights. According to him, when he became a respected champion he fought increasingly tougher competition more than what Mayweather Jr. or De La Hoya can imagine and that Chavez is superior to both of them.
Before you ask, he was dead on in his predictions of seven or eight major bouts and netted roughly $30K off of Bodog wagers so I’m more than confident that he’s a legit boxing analyst.
another fight night, another dollar. any boxing heads gonna watch Felix Trinidad vs. Roy Jones Jr.?
I grew up on: Mike Tyson, Oscar de la Hoya, Hector Camacho, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, but I missed out on watching Roy Jones Jr’s career. No internet and a child growing out of boxing, I missed out on Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad. I did a lot of catching up ( thanks to youtube) and I’m looking forward to this fight to make up for lost time, although it is obvious both fighters are past their primes, at least I can see two legends in the same ring, on the same night.
Based on my Roy Jones highlight dvd and watching Trinidad’s worst performances against de la Hoya, Hopkins, Wright, this should be an easy fight for Roy Jones. But most boxing fans can’t get the image of Roy Jones getting knocked out in devastating fashion twice, losing three out of his last five fights. So this could justify my 50 bucks on this fight.
I’m looking forward to see if Jones can deliver on his word on Tito going out in “foe”
i think trinidad is gonna win a decision or late ko, if he was fighting regularly over the last 3 years i’d give him a bigger edge, but i expect jones to dominate early while the ring rust is still there and for tito to pick it up late. jones just looks so sluggish lately and his fights against scrubs in idaho haven’t done anything to change that.
but with the recent rumors of de la Hoya vs. Mayweather II, I am 100% sure that I AM NOT GOING TO BE TEMPTED TO BUY THIS FIGHT AT ALL! de la Hoya/ Mayweather II probably hurts boxing even more andI will not support that fight with my money. de la Hoya is taking away Mayweather vs. Cotto.
