Boulder Punching 101 - Chris Redfield Thread The Director's cut

justin wong is playin with chris, hsien, and thor in the fight for relief tornament and he’s doing really well.

Your talking about off his lvl 3 right? Unless there is another way to get 400k of a full screen magnum. Only other way I know off is with chris and storm THC. And yea props to justin for making that team work, although thor is the main star of the team he has been doing some nice work with chris.

I saw Justin Wong link a combo without assist from a otg down H pistol. I never knew that’s possible, is the link conditional or character specific??

Its hard, I think its like a 1 or 2 frame link, thats why you don’t see too many people going for it(or maybe they go for it and always drop it). But nice play from justin, he pretty much only used the magnum and he was owning teams with it.

Jwong takes it with Hsienko/Thor/Chris

For a team that was intended to suck (as jwong claimed), it had a lot of synergy.

Some things to note:

 • Jwong made great use of the Chris landmine assist. It worked very well with Thor’s air dash mix-up.

 • He almost used nothing but the magnum when it comes to the gun fire. Probably because the damage is so good.

 • Most importantly, Jwong was incredibly godlike with his airthrows as chris. Considering chris’ throw otg follow-ups are so good, it seems that knowing how to air throw is VITAL to playing a good chris.

justin wong wins with chris on his team he’s just too good at this game. nothing too fancy but good ground blocking, great normal air blocking and superjump airblocking, great runaway defense, solid and intelligent offense, intelligent use of assists and solid combos after a defensive assists hit. he just understands this game and applies it better than anyone else.

@jak d ripr
the +400k magnum combo is standing magnum, dash forward jumping magnum, standing magnum, and finally neutral jump magnum. no meter and may miss smaller characters. if you have the meter you can cancel into level 3 satellite after the 2nd standing magnum for around 800k in damage.

i’ve mastered this combo and have been able to punish a blocked akuma’s ground beam super, dormammu’s chaotic flame super, and blast through most normal projectiles at full screen for over 400k in damage without meter. very awesome when an opponents assist also gets involved, 600k damage to assists! no other character in the game can do that without a super. this is one of the reasons why i think chris dominates everyone else in the ground projectile war.

chris also has a ton of combos of off standing magnum at different ranges that can do more than just deal heavy damage!

chris’s airthrow is godly and go into death combos something i can’t mention enough. justin wong made very good use of it. there were times when the opponent was in the air and justin would wave dash under them and went for the cross under airthrow.

comboing off of the airthrow without the assist is very tight and only works on some characters. i think justin landed it only once and made the attempt at other times but couldn’t do it again so he just x factored or comboed with assists. it does not work at all against the largest character in the game, sentinel!

i don’t think justin is confident or knew about fullscreen magnum combos so he made good use of standing magnum into superjump magnum as it is easy and still takes off about 300k.

i am very happy to finally see someone win a tournament with chris on their team! i can’t wait to analyse the footage.

You can actually also do magnum otg to magnum

I can do it pretty consistenly but since I have no arcade/offline scene here it’s just suicide to try it online
full screen magnum into super jump works wonders on sentinel who has dr doom covering up
you see 50% red health of doom gone

Yea man, you can tell its the game he has mastered not the characters cause he uses them in their most basic form and he still makes them all look amazing. How do you guys feel about him x-factoring after the throw? I think it has some situational applications particularly since chris can lay down some sick chip damage on incoming characters. As for that combo, wow, I had no idea, that is amazing. This dude has so much untapped potential.

Yea I just picked up Chris on friday, could you tell me what the combo i should be doing if I hit a magnum full screen?

Well apparently you can do st. magnum, dash forward j. magnum, st. magnum, neutral jump magnum. Heres a video of showing the combo sans the neutral j. magnum

chris’s bnb after xfactor level 2 will kill any character so i think it is worth it if you’re taking out the biggest threat on a team like justin did to wesker and it is a lot easier to think of using it after a throw.

i’ve been saying for a while now that chris can be a monster on the right team with the right assists to back him up and great defensive play. a good chris team can beat any team in the game.

for the quadruple full screen magnum combo if you catch an assist can you continue to otg them with jumping magnum until they die. yeah chris is also the only character that can easily kill an assist from full screen without any meter.

You have to dash in before you jump like this, Magnum, f, f j. magnum

By the time anyone reads this the stream will prolly be over but theres a tight ass chris here Monsters Arcade on Justin.tv I think its the dude smexy was talking bout.

I was under the impression it might be Cambosam from earlier in the thread. Anyway, that was one hell of a Chris and I might have to make a Chris team just because of that performance.

nah, i haven’t had the time to really learn any of the other characters except chris, whom i do plan on mastering before any other character. i still don’t have a team i feel good about but my chris is top notch and i’m willing to share everything i know with everyone here to get the character more exposure. being proficient with only chris has upped my defensive game a lot, something that player didn’t really show.

the one thing i did get out of that video was that player made really good use of jumping machinegun instead of magnum as an otg relauncher as it allowed his sweep super to connect in the end of his combos. i’ve never thought of ending a relaunch combo with the sweep super but now i’m having second thoughts.

he relied on his combos, throw into combos, and x factor combos to win. he had no other gameplan for his team. it was the reason why he either dominated or was being dominated. i don’t think he knew about jumping pistol and standing magnum into combos which would’ve helped him greatly.

I was having second thoughts about running dante with chris, but that dude definitely made it seem like they were made for each other.

you can’t really just “rely on combos, throws and xf combos” to win, lol.

So yea upon further thought, Im definitely running chris(land mine)/storm(whirlwind)/dante(jam session). Overall I think there is some nice synergy in this team since storm is one of the few characters who can DHC into chris, while ill test around to see if dante can dhc into chris(i doubt it but u never know). Then in terms of assists while dante definitely has the most important assist for both my characters they can still work without him, whirlwind helps chris out while he is jumping and firing, while landmine helps storms zoning game, although Im not sure if it explodes if storm gets hit, will need to test that out as well. Plus chris can hit a THC off a full screen magnum and paired with that delicious hail storm it should kill almost any character in the game, plus heaven help you if I get your point and you assist. Plus since chris can get a magnum of jam session it shouldn’t be too hard to hit get in this situation anyway.

Then storm and dante work out very well, she can zone or rush down with jam session, plus with all the meter chris built for her she can THC with whoever is still alive to kill off a point/assist. Plus with the now infamous DHC glitch she should be able to kill any character with a single hit. Finally dante works well with either of my teammates or as an anchor since not only does he do well with that x-factor, but he is one of the only characters in the game who can heal himself without x-factor so even if I use it up on chris or storm dante isn’t out to lunch.

Plus if for some unfortunate reason storm or chris are anchor, well they aren’t free either, chris is definitely the weakest anchor of all 3 but I think he can hold his own.
