Boulder Punching 101 - Chris Redfield Thread The Director's cut

i dont think its too much to ask for a character to be able to control some space on their own to compete. no mid-air nades, no horizontal space control means chris will be easy as fuck to get in on from the air when hes all alone

Can you throw grenades when jumping? Or is that only usable on the ground?

Only useable on the ground unfortunately.

chris’ flamethrower has a full body hitbox, it covers the entire area from the tip of the flame all the way to his right elbow. it stopped a Magneto Tri-Jump in the video

People are sleeping on Chris right now. I might be crazy but I see some major potential. I think the fact that he got released with the first group of people has something to do with it. The hype has died off for most of the original 10-12 characters not named Dante and Deadpool. If Chris had been revealed a month ago people would be going bananas.

Mr.Redfield is the character I’m the most excited to play as in this game :clown:
He’s looking really good and who doesn’t love boulder punching

Anything on the receiving end. namely boulders.

I’m with Niisan. I don’t know why people sleep on characters so often. It’s like with Thor. Then they end up getting roflstomped by these characters and wanna suddenly main them. Hehehe

Hey! I just thought of a new (possible) combo!
His launcher hyper leads to re-launc afterwards, right? Is it possible to then combo it to his other arsenal hyper by smacking them to the ground and then using an OTG assist?

If so, I’m gonna use it.
Not because it could be a good combo (damage will surely be reduced, making it suck), but it will look cool as hell.

wow…thas incredibly lame

Well if you think about it, his grenades wouldn’t have been as effective as cables anyway because his would either have a feeble explosion in the air, unlike cables that stay in the air for a bit, or not explode till they hit the ground completely nullifying their point.

This logic confuses me. I’m reading it as “Well, it’s already shit, so don’t bother giving it anything good.”

I really, really want to like Chris, but the more I think about, the more I really start to worry about his limitations. He has no ability to control horizontal airspace, which is confusing since pretty much every other part of his gameplay seems to say “I’m here to control space.” Having all of his jumping guns aim downward confuses me, that seems to me more like a tool a rushdown character would have. He should at least have his handgun aim horizontally in the air or something.

Plus all of his air guns seems kind of slow on top of that. It may have just been the player, but even in the Chris vs Wesker video that came out recently there were several times where Chris would jump, whip out his gun, and land without firing a shot. Add to this the fact that both of his lvl 1 hypers have problems with airborne opponents (Unless I misread something and Sweep Combo actually can fully connect with an airborne opponent) and I’m really not sure if Chris can overcome those problems. Then again, I’m complaining about a game I haven’t played yet, and all of this is probably going to be rendered null and void within a month of the release day. I still plan on using him day one despite all of this, he’s still one of the most interesting characters to me. /rant

tl;dr version: I bitch about a game I haven’t played yet, make myself look stupid, and make everyone else stupider for reading it.

Chris definitely has his flaws… still looking forward to using him though. I’m not well-versed enough in fighting games to make any assumptions about his gameplay from the videos but I look forward to watching this thread once the game comes out.

people are really sleeping on this guy…
he could be the next cable or at the very least the next saki omokane

Actually it was just being discussed how he cannot be the next Cable because he has no air to air zoning.

well he’s the only thing close enough to cable in this game

Well if you look at him, he has the mines, the incendiary grenades, shotgun, submachine gun, magnum, flamethrower, and pistol. From the videos I have seen, these are very good at controlling the ground but unfortunately due to how shite they all are in the air he cannot control the air at all. With that said, correct me if im wrong but cable was not very good at controlling the ground and he truly shined in the air with his air grenades, air viper beam, AHVB, but he needed an assist that covered the ground to avoid magnetos dashing in underneath him. I think chris will work the same except on the ground as opposed to the air.

Deadpool.

Controlling the ground seems like it would be far less effective than controlling the air though, although seeing how much of the cast is reliant on ground action this may not be the case. Chris looks like he can’t really take to the air himself, but with stuff like flamethrower and firebombs he seems like he’ll actually have a pretty effective, if very unorthodox anti-air game. Hell, even laying down could be useful for making jump ins whiff then tagging them in the ankle.

Yea, guess we will have to wait and see though.

Deadpools air guns are infinitely more intimidating than anything Chris has to offer, Chris can’t combo his guns into hyper unlike pool. Chris can’t even control fullscreen space well like dormammu, nor does he truly have a "gtfo me and take a break’ hyper like trish or mumu’s floating bomb… I don’t think people are sleeping in this guy. I want to like him, but I’m worried his moves are too focused on roadblocking rushdiwn characters

Guess we will find out in a few days then.
